Our bathroom remodeling project is going to set the record for taking the longest time.

After many long delays, and order mix-ups, and lost plumbers, and plumbers not plumbing correctly, etc., We're now having the tile installed in our tub/shower area.

Ms. L was a tiling machine today. She has done so many beautiful projects all over the county - mosaics, slate, marble, ceramic, porcelain - she is an artist with tile.

And she's just so darn happy while she does it. Just wait until you see the 8" tall accent band we're planning to run around the area about 2/3 of the way up.

We're still debating on a grout color, but we're leaning toward a silver/light grey color to to with the brushed nickle fixtures.

A blank canvas! (This is a standard 60" wide tub; the angle makes it look so small.)

The room will be basically white, with black accents and brushed nickle fixtures. The tub, tile, toilet, sink, vanity cabinets, walls, and ceiling are white. The mirrored medicine cabinets, Silestone counter top, and toilet seat are black. A tall storage cabinet (still not built) will fit behind the door and to the left of the toilet will be black, too. The floor is vinyl in a white tile/black accent pattern. At a later date it may be replaced with the real thing.

I'm totally jealous. I've been working on my Master Bath for a year by myself. I got tired. So, it is a disaster zone.

1) We haven't used the toilet yet (we have to crawl up on the snowy roof and uncap the vent pipe which had been sealed for pressure testing... and it was a snowstorm this weekend so DH did not do it!) so I can't comment too much on that yet. But it's a beautifully made and beeautiful-looking thing. 2) The tub's "leveling feet" (just little blocks of wood fiberglassed to the bottom of it) need to sit on subfloor or be shimmed to the correct height. Since our tub deck is about an inch or so taller than if the tub was sitting right on the subfloor, we needed to raise it up. Rather than shim the feet in place (since we had no access) or build the feet up on the tub itself, this was easier. We screwed blocks of wood to the floor itself, then used a hand plane to plane them down several times, placing the tub in the hole and checking its level each time, till we got it right. If the deck had been the same height as the tub rim, you'd just see cleared areas for the feet to rest, rather than the wood blocks, in the mortar bed.

Thanks you guys-Capellini, Cat, Lascatx, Michoumonster, & Allison. I have to say there won't be much of a "tour" LOL, as the room is only 6.5x9.5. There will not be many long shots:) My plan is to give info on all the stages of the bath. Starting with the planning, then the joist re-enforcements, walls and finishing, tiling, etc. I used a lot of help from people on both this forum and the Remodel forum. Then there is the kitchen forum where it was all soapstone. I had some experience working with soapstone in the summer of 2011 when I naively went ahead and ordered and installed soapstone. This planning was set in motion before I found GW. I couldn't find anyone to help me locally, I didn't know anything about remodeling at the time. And I only had a local restaurant for inspiration - where they had soapstone installed 12 years ago. I had always loved it. Tried to order SS from a local stone yard and have it fabricated locally. Fabricator was discouraging me so I went my own way! I finally got my DBIL (who lives 45 min away) to commit to helping me cut and install the kitchen counters. Well, you strike when the iron's hot, so I ended up doing it myself with the assistance of my DH and some young lads to do the heavy lifting. I also learned all I knew at the time, from a few YouTube videos that Canada Soapstone had posted. If it weren't for them I couldn't have tackled the kitchen. But, after the kitchen, I knew I couldn't stop there, so the bathroom was next. This time I sourced some remnants from another local stone yard, who's owner happened to have grown up in my small town and worked with my late DFIL, haying, as a teen. His dad started the stone yard years ago and he has since taken over. Anyway, got the remnants from them and now I have my sink:) Eyeballing more remnants for the next project.

Harry's the bomb. He went grouse hunting this morning and duck hunting this afternoon. He's one tired puppy. Harry is a great helper with the construction. He keeps a close eye on everything. He loved dropping tennis balls down the holes in the old floor, then running down to the basement to retrieve them. He thought that was great fun.

The floor tile is Emser Europa Bianca Glazed Porcelain. The countertop is Superwhite granite. Tub is Aquatica Purescape Acrylic 014a. Toilet Kohler Cimmaron round chair height. Tub faucet is from Signature Hardware - Leta Faucet. Sink faucet is Delta Olmsted. My splurge item was the trim kit recessed chandelier light over the tub....it is from Beaux-Artes...here's the stock pic of it. I just adore it! It is elegant but understated. You have to click on the pic w/the art to see it all. Mine is in white below: I used a gray paint from Walmart called Country Fog...it is a light gray w/hint of blue. Caroline, we do things slowly too. A quick job takes us 6 months, so I sympathize.

That is going to be soooooo nice. I like the subway tile look. I have a similar alcove tub. Also, what kind of shower fixtures did you get? What is that on the right wall of the alcove? The soap dish/bottle holder thing?

She's a cute gal, Ms. L. Be sure to show more pictures as the work progresses or when you are finished. You are going to love a new, updated bathroom.

Susan, the right wall, at the foot of the tub, has a built-in niche the depth of the wall studs. Of course, the builder just eyeballed it, or centered it without taking in the depth of the back wall, and I wasn't thinking, so it's "almost" centered, and is 11" x 27".

Had I had my wits about me, it would have been perfectly centered and about 16x24. Still, once it's finished I doubt anyone will notice its minor flaws. It will have a shelf to hold the shampoos, liquid soap, etc.

All the bathroom fixtures are from the "Bancroft" line by Kohler. The toilet, sink, and shower handles are all white porcelain.

The new tub location is behind Harry and to the left.

I agree its nice to see things as it moves along!
You are sure going to be one happy gal when its all done aren't you? Whatever, will you do to fill your time once the house is completely done? ;)

Caroline, I thought that looked like a niche. I got a porcelain one which the tile guy tiled around. One thing I didn't do is put a soap dish down low, handy for bathing. I have to remember to get a bar of soap before I sit in the tub. As for your niche not being quite centered, I hope that's the biggest "problem" you have!

Pretty faucet. I think Kohler has beautiful stuff. I have a Kohler tub (Memoirs). Wish I had my project to do over again; definitely would do some things differently, but I still like it.
