Small bathroom before and after pics
Comments (34)Thanks for the info dpowlan. We had actually planned to put the toilet under the sloped roof and put a small shelf behind the toilet; essentially bumping it out about 6-8 inches, and then put a curbed skylight above it to combat the lack of headroom. Our contractor (at the time) seemed to have no problem with that. We were also going to run our shower all the way back to the roof and put in a shelf and a bench. However when the plumber showed up he told us he was pretty sure that that was not to code. My contractor then called me and said that all the walls in the bathroom had to be at least 5 ft tall per code. Which meant building a wall out from the sloping roof and losing 12 sq ft. Soo our small bath just became much smaller. It is good to hear that the internal dimensions of your lovely shower are 36 x 45. Our "new" dimensions will be approx 42 x 34. I looked at your pics and stopped hyper-ventilating a bit and thought, "Ok that looks roomy and do-able, if we are somewhere close to that size-wise we may be ok" Anyway, thanks for the help. You give all of us small bath people hope!!...See MoreFinished bathroom window finally
Comments (21)Thanks, everyone. The cat is a ragdoll, so she's spot-on as far as the colors are concerned, and she always seems to slip into the photos (at least way more than the dog does). I cannot believe that someone commented about the bathroom being nice before. It looked like a hospital bathroom complete with a hotel-style vanity ledge and sterile white everywhere. The only things it had that I liked were a giant (but incredibly awkward window) and a heatlamp (both replaced) and a linen closet that I kept. All else was terrible (to me anyhow). I cannot even believe it's the same room, and I had multiple contractors fight me on my ideas (since I designed it myself and was told that it couldn't be done and still get 30"-plus by the vanity and a 5' x 3' shower). I told them so, and I got 33" of distance between the vanity and the knee wall. Anyhow, enough of memory lane. But the color, as I've mentioned elsewhere, is Benjamin Moore Mount Saint Anne (CC-710) (I used the Aura bath/spa paint). My kitchen project and granite replacement from the crack caused by my hot mac and cheese dish last December will be the subject of a post in a couple of weeks, and the final master bedroom items should be in then, too....See MoreDIY bathroom reno finally complete! Comments (43)Just one side note, it was mostly DIY- all of the plumbing and tub installation was done by a plumber. And the plaster walls were resurfaced by a professional. They were pretty bad after removing the tile. And my husband wanted plaster not Sheetrock....See MoreMy realtor says REMOVE 2nd door from Master Bathroom (but we LIKE it)
Comments (30)First off, my condolences and I agree if you are not planning on selling now, give yourself the time to grieve and push this to the back burner. And if you are staying in the home, definitely keep what works for you. I'm a realtor, in Pittsburgh suburbs so your market may differ. I would talk to your contractor and obtain a bid for closing off the door. I have no idea what tiling or finishes this may impact, but this sounds like a small job. If and when you decide to sell, have the agent share the estimate with potential buyers if they push back on this. Sometimes buyers are scared off because they think something will cost a lot of money and really have no idea. I recently used this strategy for a listing that lacked a first floor powder room. Estimate was about $7000 and sharing this helped....See MoreRelated Professionals
