Which finish for iron daybed?

I'm considering purchasing the Charles P. Rogers brass and iron daybed for my office/guest room. The bedding that I have is the Pottery Barn duvet, quilt and shams shown in the picture below. My desk and credenza are English country style in a barn red over black painted finish and I'll probably get a small dresser, either painted or in unfinished English pine.

We'll probably paint the walls in some variation of green - maybe BM Baby Turtle. The room will be primarily used by my husband (for his office) my DD during her monthly visits home from college, and the occassional out-of-town guest.

Do you think daybed in an iron black or distressed vintage white finish would look best in the room? I love the distressed but think the iron would be a bit more elegant. The only problem I have with the iron is that it has a silver tone to it, while the distressed finish is a creamy white over a brownish iron. Wouldn't the red desk and earth-toned bedding work better with the cream/brown finish?

I vote for the black. You're right...much more elegant, and timeless, and will fit into virtually any design scheme down the road.

In view of the stuff you already have (red desk & bedding) I would go with black.

You're welcome! For me, it was worth the extra expense to get an authentic looking and quality iron bed. I bought my DS a Wesley Allen bed before I found Charles P and it looks nice, it's a good bed, but it's very lightweight compared to this daybed and my DD2's antique iron bed. Charles P has free shipping right now and I might be mistaken but I don't think I was charged tax, since they're back east. I did wait a few weeks extra b/c I ordered it in a non-standard finish so they made one just for me, but it wasn't a long wait. Another option is Loading Dock Antiques where I bought my DD2's antique iron bed, but they don't usually have many daybeds. You can get a custom finish though if you decide to use a twin. They sandblasted mine to get the old paint off and repainted in a chippy, glazed antique white finish. It's a mom and pop shop (literally), and the wife would call me and send photos during the finishing process. Since it's an antique, it's a few inches wider than a standard twin, but it was easy and inexpensive to order a custom-size bunkie board from a local mattress manufacturer. Daisy, I love your bed & bedding! I have ordered a white iron daybed (see picture) for my 6 six-year old and wondering if I need to order daybed bedding rather than twin-size bedding. I love some of the Pottery Barn Kids bedding, but Ready-made daybed bedding for kids is just not appealing to her. Beautiful bed! I haven't ventured into daybeds yet but have been looking at them for years. My daughter has her heart set on a full sized bed if we move, not sure if she wants it for kids sleeping over. If so, the daybed would be appealing to her I'm sure as it could double as a couch.

I just ordered this iron and brass daybed from Charles P Rogers. This picture shows it in the wrought iron finish and with country decor. I prefer futons. I have a very nice futon with a memory foam mattress that lays flat and people comment all the time how comfortable it is to sit on and sleep on. I tried out daybeds and looked at pull out sofas but the futon was the most comfortable. I have a flex room or the game room as we call it where the futon is housed we use it when I have more guests than guest bedrooms. I have found people downstairs in the flex room who were watching tv sound asleep. When I ask them what they are doing they say that darn futon is so comfortable it gets you every time. I can't find the exact one I have but this one is very similar. Another vote for black here. I agree that it will look more elegant and timeless.

Tough call. I actually prefer the Vintage White with your bedding, but like the others, think that the black is a bit more timeless.

Thanks so much for your input. I agree with everyone - just still a bit put off by the almost pewter undertones, since everything in my house is earthtoned, right down to the oil-rubbed bronze hardware finishes!

I think I found one more finish they offer in other beds. It's a vintage iron - more of a brownish black and not all the chippy white paint like the distressed vintage white (which I still love, but maybe more for a girl's room).

I think vintage iron would go beautiful with the style of your house (per the stuff that you show us here).

idk i just think the vintage looks like chipped paint. lol sorry. but i prefer the wrought iron. i think the black will go great with the bedding and red desk

Thanks, ladies. I do like the vintage iron - it's not as distressed as the vintage white and I think it retains more of the elegance of the black iron, so maybe it's a good compromise.

Of course, this isn't a standard finish for this bed and I'm not sure if the company lets you customize at all (maybe for a bunch more $$) but I'll give them a call tomorrow to check.

Woo hoo - I'm the (soon to be) proud owner of a brass and iron daybed in the vintage iron finish. I was able to custom order the vintage iron (which is more of a tan paint) for the same price as the vintage white. It will take longer, but I'm good with that since we're still remodeling. No shipping or tax either, so I'm pretty happy. Thanks everyone for your help!

This is a much better choice for me than buying an actual antique daybed, since I don't think those would work so well with a trundle underneath. These beds are hand-cast and have a hand-applied finish, rather than mass produced, so hopefully it will be similar in appearance to a true antique.

lilbit - I know what you mean about the chipped paint look - but I really like this style (I also like classic, elegant furnishings, which is why my house is such a mish-mash of styles!) My family thinks I'm crazy that I pay extra to have new things made to look old :-)
