Where do you keep your kitty's litter box

With this renovation, we'll no longer have an attached garage for a kitty box. It's currently in our laundry room in the basement, but we're moving our laundry room upstairs (into the former garage) and would like to figure out how to move kitty's litterbox there too. Only problem is that our 2 dogs will also be kept in the laundry room, so kitty's box will have to be inaccessable to the dogs. One suggestion was to box in a section of the lockers and put an access door for the cat and allow it to flip up for cleaning. Another suggested that we put a kitty access door into our pantry and keep it there (I'm not thrilled with that idea) Anyone have any better thoughts? here's our

What about shifting the dog's location to the now unused basement?

I think it would be nifty if you closed in below that "counter, open below" area to the right (to the left facing it) of the W/D.

Have a pretty standard base cabinet swinging door with a kitty hole cut in it.

I wouldnt want to lose any of that nice locker space you have; and the pantry should be a LAST resort... I wouldnt want my cats in the pantry, but I tend to believe they are stinkier than average ;)

I doubt that your animal shelter would care that this donation of free litter clumped or not. Whether this is something you would want to add to your soil or not would depend on what type os soil you have. If what you have is clay this is probably not something you would want to add, but if sand there is that possibilty that you could.

Because our house is large we put one litter box in the mudroom (first floor) and one in the master bedroom (second floor) for the new kitten. He's big enough now to go up and down the stairs during the night without us, and we are slowing weaning him off the upstairs litter box. We moved it down the hallway and showed him. He forgot, and in the morning he cried looking for it so I showed it to him again. We'll leave it there for a week or so and then keeping moving it closer to the other one. Cats are all different. My previous cat could have her box moved daily and it didn't phase her. This one isn't as sharp. We had the same issue with the butt hanging over the edge of the litter box (with the previous cat). We started using a mortar pan (available at HD) and that worked well. And larger container would work. I would take the litter box out of the bedroom and close the door. Put it right outside the bedroom. Slowing move it towards where you eventually want it to go.

We have 3 cats- and use Scoop Away cat litter. We keep it scooped out everyday and place the scooped out debris in the plastic grocery bags. We throw them right in the kitchen trash can and do not have a problem with it smelling as long as the bag is tied shut before disposal. Our kitchen can sits right in the kitchen. People come over and don't even know we have cats because they stay in my son's large room. The only time we have odor is when they first use the box or when he forgets to clean it out. Some may not agree but they all 3 use the same box and always have- he completely empties the box and cleans thoroughly about once monthly using cleanser and a toilet brush and lets air dry completely outside for awhile. The Scoop Away cat litter is the BEST we have found for odor control and I have tried everything on the market. One of our cats is 11 so we have had lots of time to do the research. We keep the litter scoop laying next to the box in one of those plastic containers like salad comes in from the grocery store and we just give it a good cleaning when the box gets cleaned- we let it soak for a few minutes in the litter box and then just scrub it with the toilet brush and rinse it well and let it air dry. The Scoop Away is not the cheapest cat litter out there but you can generally find it on sale and you don't have to change it as often as the less expensive brands. Make sure to put a good 2 inches of the litter in the box so it really soaks up the urine and clumps well. Hope this helps-

Get a covered litter box, and put it in the corner with the opening facing the wall (with a little space between). Most cats can maneuver in or climb over the top, but dogs will have a harder time (quietly) sneaking in. You could also try converting a big plastic storage tub into a litter box - cutting a hole big enough for the cat in the lid created tops access, which makes it much harder for the dog to get in to. I also have a baby gate with a small cat door in it that I use to block my dogs - I had to zip tie the little door half way shut so the cats could get through, but the dogs couldn't squeeze in because it's obviously designed with a very fat cat in mind! I like the idea of tucking it under the lockers. Is there meant to be a "seat" there with cubbies above? If so, a simple flip-up seat and a kitty-sized opening in the front panel should do the trick.

And I know you didn't ask, but would you consider moving the pantry door to the back hall? You're having to go through a lot of doors to get to your pantry. Or at least consider a pocket door.

I'm with Vt remodeler on the location for kitty litter, and with jakabedy for a change of pantry door. At least maybe reverse the swing? Changing it to the back hall might be best, but as it is, you have to step into the laundry area to get into it.

I would replace the pantry with a dedicated cat closet with a smaller footprint. I don't like to have litter boxes in any living spaces. I would even consider a small closet attached to the exterior of the house with pet door access.

One word of caution. Some cats won't use enclosed litterboxes. Believe me, you'll find out whether or not your cat tolerates it. As cat lovers know, some cats aren't fussy, while others are. The "outhouse" effect drove one of my cats to pee outside the enclosed litterbox after never doing such a thing, while my other cat didn't mind in the least. I'm not saying it won't work, only that it might not. Reading the mind of a cat is tough---but they're wonderful!

My cats box is in the laundry room. My dog use dto help himself to the contents- blech. Now you know that boy was not allowed to give kisses. Anyway, back to topic- cut a small cat sized hole in the bottom of laundry door. Easily replaced when moving.

I too have a cat door cut into the basement laundry room. Overall, that works for me and the five cats as well as the dog. My only ongoing concern is that the 10 x12' room also houses the forced air gas furnace and it is said that the off-fumes from the cat litter will shorten the life of the motor.
