Funny, but sweet something happened to me, today :o)

Was waiting outside for kitchen/bathroom designer to pick me up today.

It was hot, so I moved to a shaded area, where we have a picnic table to wait on her.

Being as I have only met her once, I wasn't sure what vehicle she would be using today.

A lady drove by me, stopped, and I got up to walk to her car.

Wasn't my ride, but a neighbor lady, that I wasn't familar with, stopped and asked me if I needed a ride.

Told her I was waiting on a person, but thanked her.

There are nice, caring people. They still exist.

Made my day.

You got a good samaritan story?

I guess being at my ole age, she guess thought I needed assistance.

We heard a lawn mower the other day and both of us thought it sounded awfully close! We looked out of the window and saw our next door neighbor mowing our yard, unannounced. He knew that Robert had had back surgery.

Today I stopped at a service station to buy a 20 lb. bag of ice. A young man behind me, also bought a bag of ice. I got to the ice storage thing first, but I have no strength in my "good" hand since I broke my wrist, and my other hand has always been bad since I injured it when I was a child. I was struggling to pick up a bag of ice and he asked me if I would like him to carry it to my car. I said, "No, I can carry it, but I would appreciate it if you would pick it up for me so I can get a grip on it." He did, and again, offered to carry it to my car. I thanked him very much for being so kind, but told him I could carry it. (I try to use my hand as much as I can.) I thought it was very, very nice of him.

A lot of things can upset us and for each of us it'll be different. Sometimes things can be said innocently and it will be taken wrong or someone will be offended or whatever. Sometimes it's intended to offend. Sometimes people are jerks and stupid. This guy isn't worth worrying over. Don't torture yourself over it. Make a game out of it! Start thinking about some good comebacks and truly make a game out of it, like I should have said yes I had to grab it quick before you shoved it into your mouth with the 17 OTHER pieces you've helped yourself to! Or I couldn't see it with you grazing there in the way. Or whatever else you can think of. I've always tended to bite my tongue, but I'm getting more crotchety and started to fire back a little bit. Wish I'd do it more! And Jannie, for that comment, I think I'd be tempted to pat down all the junk they had out there! No, I'm sure I wouldn't... but it's fun to think about isn't it? :)

That was nice. The "listening" part is so important. It's good that you shared your story because all of us will be more aware the next time we are out. I talk a lot to my boys about "paying it forward" about how if I do something nice that person will (hopefully) feel good and do something nice...etc. Lacombe-thanks for saying that. Saying "guys" is something I do all the time. It has become such a generic term that I don't even think about it literally meaning "male". I'll be more careful now. When I was working on the ambulance, I used to get so irritated at the younger/newer medics calling our patients, hon or sweetie. Once I asked my partner if he was on a date. I know not the most professional question, but my belief is you refer to your patients as Mrs or Mr unless you have their permission to do otherwise. They are NOT your sweetie. It aggravates me. Once, when I was younger, I was in a department store and walked up on a group of older ladies out shopping together. The were laughing and enjoying their day. As I walked past I said "Oooh you three look like trouble". They laughed and laughed. Think that lifted my day more than theirs. It still makes me smile.

hmmmmm, I don't see any wrong with what he said. I am my mother a lot :o) And when I saw the above on Facebook, it made me laugh. Thinking someone else might as well. Yesterday I was sitting outside eating a Subway sandwich, which in near our only supermarket. I saw an elderly woman hobble out of her car and hobble towards the market. About the time she got to the corner of the store I saw a young man who was working at the Nails R Us shop run out, bend down and start picking up things off the ground. I assumed it was money.
As soon as he got finished he ran off towards the woman to give her the change she had dropped.
I was so impressed!

I bought a big bag of dog food and was contemplating how I was going to get it out of the grocery cart and into my car trunk. A college age man walked by and asked if I needed help with my groceries. He put the dog food in the car and I told him I could get the rest. College kids here can be so helpful and friendly.

I like your stories! I'm always surprised that people are surprised to bump into good, decent, polite, helpful, caring people. I feel like I'm surrounded by people like that every day, from clerks in stores, to kids on bikes, to strangers holding doors for each other, to members of my own family, etc. I'm sure I must bump into a few crabs here and there, but usually I encounter just plain good folks.

At Publix, on my 70th birthday, to buy shrimp, I was right behind a car, and he started back out.
I had my hand on the trunk of his car, yelling stop and moving as fast as I could.

Lady at the entrance of Publix started screaming at him to stop, and ran to his car telling him he almost ran over me and to get out and apologize.

He did.

She was my guardian angel that day.

I love visiting my Mother at the Nursing Home during meal times so I can visit the other Lady's to. They are so complementary to me it makes my day.

One night my DH and I had our 2 girls in the Dollar Store. They were looking at the toys and naturally wanted something. We just said (out loud) we don't have any money today. (We went to the gym next store and literally didn't have our wallets etc). A woman nearby walked up and offered to buy my DD a doll that she had in her hand. We thanked her very much but said no it wasn't necessary. The woman didn't look like she had much money to spare, but was willing to buy my DD something. So nice of her to offer!
