have you ever seen brick painted a soft yellow? That would look nice with the siding to match and the shingles to remain as they are. I have pictures of brick houses in a soft yellow. If I can remember when I get to work tomorrow I will send one home and I will post one for you. I think your house looks awesome.

well to my suprise I did not forget to look the houses up in my photo files. Here is one that is all brick. It is a townhouse and looks okay in the photo but awesome in person. The yellow looks kind of dark when I uploaded it to photobucket. It is actually very similar to the yellow in the bottom photo

this is a house with yellow siding and cedar shakes painted in blue. I think the yellow is stylish and sophisticated.

Granted, I am a bit of a purist, but I think you should leave the brick unpainted, and just paint or stain the shingles & siding. I agree with MsJay that a warm yellow is classic and beautiful. Also, neutral-toned tans, like putty, is a timeless look, and soft greens naturally go with the reddish tones in brick. I also like crisp white trim. But that's just me. I used to have a brick house with white trim and light tan on the non-brick areas, and I just love the look. Will post photos if I can find any.

I too usually like brick unpainted however in this case I felt it might be a good idea to paint it and the lap siding all in one color so the house will have a more uniform surface and will look like it was all built at the same time. There are so many breaks in the surface something needs to tie it together. The house also has very nice trim work on it, especially the windows and the portico and with a uniform surface on the house it will make the trim "pop". Whoever did her trim work did a great job.

MsJay.- originally I was going to paint all the brick I just recently thought maybe I will keep it as is.

BUT- I was considering Grey or taupe..even white.
I thought stained light Grey shingles and grey siding and shutters in a color..

Or a taupe..

Just a warning on white. It does not hold up on the brick well and I have found it looks bad after a while.

there is a home decorating forum on here under "that home site" and they do a lot of photo-shopping of ideas including house exteriors. I posted my house on there and they did it in about 15 versions which included the landscaping. You might want to try them and if they help post a link on here so we can go see.

I have not posted the updated photos yet. too cold. Have changed the windwos, door and almost finished with the painting of the trim. Have not made the window boxes yet. But thanks. They really did help and I am sure if you post photos some of them will be willing to help you. They are a really friendly group of people!
