Why am I the only one that cant figure out how to post a picture?

I have read the directions about posting messages but can not figure out how to post a link or picture to a message? Any specific advice?

I am in your camp.
I created a photobucket account and upload my pix from picasa there and just put a link from photobucket (my album) here. I wish I knew how to post the actual picture.
I can do one, but not sure how to do more than one.

I'm not sure what you tried but I uploaded a picture to photobucket then copied and pasted the html code into the message box on garden web.

If it's any help, nothing to be embarrassed about. We don't all have a kid in the house to show us these things:) I'm bad enough with the camera I bought that I haven't even reinstalled the software for it since buying a new computer in Fall - you don't see photos coming from me. Maybe the privacy option went the way of actual birth dates, or is still tied into the change that puts all the strange symbols when someone tries to list measurements or temperatures. There are some very savvy people on Computer Help forum but this isn't an actual computer problem as opposed to GW glitch I think.

You don't have to run away from here. You have a pretty good understanding of cars at this point and that's important. I have to deal with situations all of the time, where the only thing some people are thinking about is saving themselves money, and they totally forget what "fair" really means. Fair is always something that works for BOTH parties. I can't tell you why "BrakeMax" didn't see a gaping hole in an "air intake hose". I suppose you are either describing the plenum hose between the air cleaner and MAF sensor, and the throttle body, or some other vacuum hose, or a hose that directs air for the IAC. I can envision quite a number of different systems, and I don't have specifics on exactly what vehicle you own. So I'll stick with the plenum hose, since an air leak between the MAF and the engine will severely affect performance. A DPFE will give you a check engine light, but have little or no effect on performance. I won't rule out the possiblity that the plenum hose simply finally completely failed after the DPFE was looked at. They do have to flex constantly, and are a common failure item. There are several master mechanics on this forum. I looked at that web site. It looks pretty good. But still taking a code, and then asking advice about what could be wrong, is still leaving the wrong impression. Follow this. 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with a 3.1l Auto. It's setting a code P0101, that is a Mass Air Flow Sensor performance code. This car is owned by a family friend, who happens to work at an Auto Zone! They pulled the code and wanted to replace his MAF. Jason chose wisely and brought the car to me to test first. By monitoring scan data and taking snapshots for playback I was able to measure the reported volumetric efficiency (VE) of the engine. VE is the measurement of the actual amount of air the engine can pump. For example, a 3.1l engine at 5000rpm should easily pump 160grams or air per second at wide open throttle. Jason's MAF sensor was reporting 90 to 105 grams per second, and struggled to get over 4500 rpm. VE measured 55%. Well that's why it had a P0101, the computer knows how much air the engine should be pumping, based on throttle opening and rpm. At this point, there are still several possible causes for the code. A bad MAF is clearly one of them. Funny you should mention it, but a torn plenum hose would do the same. Some type of an engine mechanical issue could do this, heck even a very bad air filter could actually have given the same findings. But there is one more, how about a restricted exhaust? The test for this is to remove the front O2 sensor, and install a gage and actually measure the back pressure. The spec allows for a maximum of 1.25PSI, and that's under a load. Simply speeding the engine up in neutral had this one building 14 PSI. The fix was to replace the catalytic convertor, which was still under the 8yr/80,000 mile warranty at the dealer. No one, reading a forum would effectively lead the poster to that diagnosis. There were more details uncovered during the testing that helped make the decision to measure the back pressure. One of them was by watching the long term and short term fuel trims on the scan tool while driving the car. If the engine was actually getting more air than was being reported, then they would have been shifted way positive, because the engine would have been too lean. But because the MAF was actually reporting how much air was truly entering the engine, they were reasonably close to neutral. I can remember when I first started working on cars, I was 14 when I tore down my first Chevrolet 350 to put a cam in it, and had a valve job done on it. My grandfather had given my dad the car because it was running so bad. BTW, that wasn't my first engine job, I did a head gasket in a lawn tractor a few years before that. The thing here is there are people who are born with the ability to do this work. I suspect you are one of them, just like I am. It's not easy work, and most of the time the pay actually stinks, especially when you keep dumping huge pieces of your paycheck to buy more and more tools. But if someone really likes fixing cars, there is a freedom there that few other fields can offer. Now do you know why it's hard to find a good motorcycle mechanic? Probably because it's too hard for them to make enough money to stay in the field long enough to get really good at it. Running a repair shop, cars or motorcycles is expensive. The overhead eats some 60% of the gross profit, and then the wages and benefits start coming out before the owner finally gets his/her piece of the pie. Your couple of quotes about how much something was going to cost you if a shop had done the work, fails to show exactly how much profit the shop would have actually made if they had done it. In short, less than $125/hr of profit would have me working for free. That's how much it costs to run a shop like mine. That means, I would have to diagnose, and repair your air hose problem in about 35 minutes based on the numbers you provided, and be hard into the next job, or else I would not actually make any money at all. I invest heavily in O.E scan tools and software. That's one of the reasons it's so expensive for my shop to operate. The facts are, if I could double my parts mark-ups, and double my labor tomorrow, (and still stay busy) and then throw all of that money into more software and O.E scan tools and I'd actually still be losing ground. In 1993 I had one scan tool, a Snap-On MT2500. I could work on anything that showed up at the door. Today that same capability would cost more than 1/4 million, and the updates, and software licensing for the tools would continue to eat tens of thousands of dollars each year to continue to support them. You are correct, you don't have to be overly mechanically inclined to do some repairs. You do have to be very gifted for many others. Plus anymore you just about need a business degree to balance the pennies so that you have a chance to be there for the customer in the first place. The others that post here have seen some of my diatribes like this one. If you want to learn about cars stick around, just give us some room to earn a living. We should not have to apologize for trying to do that. ASE CMAT L1 30yrs exp.

@luv2putt Viking has extremely uniform pricing within any single distributer region; I am in SF, and recently bought an induction range (FWIW, through BSC Culinary - Charmen there is very helpful). I found absolutely no variation in price from any authorized retailer. All were exactly the same, to the dollar. I also quickly confirmed that Viking dealers outside the area will NOT sell and ship to you - there may be some exceptions willing to bend the rules, but I didn't find any. When comparing prices, note that colors cost significantly more than stainless, black or white, and sometimes it isn't clear which they are referring to. Also, I have noticed that some online dealers take the current "instant savings" promotion off their advertised cost, and some do not, so verify whether any price is before or after that promotion. If you are looking for stainless or white, you might be able to find a deal on a floor model, or on ebay, but if you go that route make sure you confirm that the warranty isn't affected (and be aware the promotion might not apply). I'd also make sure, in the case of any floor model, that it wasn't produced too long ago - they made some improvements and changed producers for their induction elements not all that long ago (I think about a year and a half now? might be slightly longer).

I’m definitely going to get the sunset book! It’s clear that I need to understand more of the basics and I actually didn’t know that about the USDA zones! I thought that if it wasn’t in my zone, that my zone was too hot for it! Btw, I’m fine with disclosing the trees but I’m still thinking about it and there’s a bit of backstory... We have a big yard that’s mostly dirt and a large number of dwarf fruit trees. While I love the fruit trees... there’s so many of them and they are inviting rodents into the garden. My plan is to remove some of the fruit trees and have them only in one section of the garden. Preferably far from the house! But even before I do that, we have a different issue that is the priority. We are on a slope and we currently have little privacy from our uphill neighbors. So I want to plant a small-ish tree that can be kept under 30 feet. The tree must be evergreen, have very dense leaves, not be poisonous (we have dogs) and preferably something with an umbrella or round shape (either through trimming or naturally). The umbrella shape would provide maximum privacy from the neighbors but I’m not finding any trees that I love that meet all of the criteria and are umbrella shaped. I’ve asked about a bunch of trees on this forum and I’ve ruled out many of them when I’ve gotten more information. The ones I am still considering are: Bay Laurel (Saratoga because it grows wider), Carrot wood, and Cinnamomum camphor. These are the ones that meet most of the criteria and that I can get in a large size (over 15’) that would immediately fix the neighbor issue. I’m leaning toward the bay laurel because the other 2 are such common parking lot trees in SoCal and I suppose I want it to be somewhat unique. But I’m still thinking about it and if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate that!

You read the instructions in Buehl's " Read Me if Youre New" thread? What can't you understand? (I'm not saying that in a mean way.) Are your photos getting into Photobucket alright? Can you copy the photo's coding correctly? Make sure you use Buehl's coding also from the thread.

When you open the pix in Photobucket, click the line "html" and the code should copy. When you copy it into your posting, it will only show the code (this threw me off the 1st time!!), but then when you hit "preview message" at the bottom of your post, you should see the picture and not the code text anymore. HTH!!

To post a picture you paste the HTML link into the message window where you want the picture to be, for posting just a clickable link, paste it into the box below the message window (where it says 'Optional Link URL' and give the link a name in the 'Name of Link' box below that).

If your pictures are in Photobucket do this:

In your album, put your cursor over a picture. Does a box come up underneath with 4 different "lines" and "boxes" - one of them being the htlm code? If so, copy the code that appears in the box. (If I click on the box it automatically copies it) Then, go back to your post here, and right in the message you are actually typing, paste in the code.

When you are typing the message, what you paste will look like gibberish. When you preview it, it will be a picture: Viola -

I work on a Mac, but hopefully what I said holds true for a PC too....let me know.

There is no space for the link. You copy the html code right into your message. When you hit preview the code will then show as the picture.

TMI - I recently figured this out, so here is my step-by-step

1. Go to your photobucket and select the picture you want

2. When you select the picture, you'll see the codes on the right side of the screen
-email and im
-direct link
-html code
-img code

3. move the cursor over the html code space, and you'll see the pointy finger

4. click the finger and you'll see the code go away and the word copied - the code will come right back

5. go to your GW message and paste the code. You can right click the mouse or control v to paste the hmtl code

6. you're not going to see a picture yet, just the long code

7. repeat until you have posted all of the photos you want by pasting the html code for each one

8. click preview just like when you finish any other post

9. click submit

you will see your pictures in your message.

Nope - you're posting the link for the page in photobucket, not the html code for the picture.

go back to your photobucket, and, trust me, if you follow my step-bystep, you'll have a picture when you click preview. If there's no picture in preview, try again.

The html code is loooooooooong - like five or six lines; it's not a little link like this one.

open the picture you want to post first. codes are on the right side.

click the box that says html code (you'll get the finger). on my computer the box turns yellow and says copied before going back tot he code.

paste that in your message.

I still can't get it to work, I get "Message Rejected" every time. Could it be truncating the HTML, because it doesn't appear to be several lines long when I copy it.

I got message rejected when I was posting here because I had too many messages in the same thread. Try changing the subject of posting line to something different.

I don't think it's the code because I tried deleting part of the code to show what it looks like and still got the picture.

Make sure you click the html code on the right side when you open the picture. try again and we'll see.

Did you get message rejected when you started a new thread? Did you have a title in the subject line? I've never had a message rejected because my photo coding was wrong. It happens to me for 3 reasons:

1. when you reply to a thread too soon after posting a comment. Go back to your message and type something different in the subject line, hit preview, then hit submit.

2. when you didn't type anything in the subject line. Go back and type something in the subject line, hit preview, then hit submit.

3. when you put something in the "Optional Link URL" box but didn't type anything in the "name of the Link" box. Go back, type something in the box, hit preview, then submit.

You are NOT posting your pic in the "Optional Link URL" box. You should be pasting it into the "Mesage" box along with your typed words.

Have to follow the instructions exactly. It is NOT like posting a "click on" link. The click on links get posted in the "Optional Link URL" box and are named. To put a picture directly into the message, the URL has to be pasted directly into the body of your message, not in the box. Why? I have no idea, and that's part of why it took me awhile to get it to work, I approach computers with the "I can figure this out mentality" and don't read the directions - don't tell DH, cause that's what I fuss on him about!

Here is a link to the painter. The picture was D** expensive, at least for us, but it is a picture of a place that means a great deal to us, the Western Lake, and it was a donation.

The colors are lovely, it is a three-dimensional painting, he builds up the trees and clouds with layers of paint.

OK, I need help now. I see the html code for my entire album, but when I select only one photo, it gives me email/IM and IMG options only. Where can I find the HTML for a single photo?
