Help Pick A Paint Color......1 pic

We are just putting up this shed in our backyard. I can't decide what color to paint it. I really would rather not paint it the same color as the house siding is....our neighbors did this, and they didn't stay the same color for long...faded, and I think it really looks tacky that way. The shed has vertical siding and the house has thin horizontal...if that makes any difference.

We are also putting in a new front door with the sidelite. All the exterior doors will be painted a plum color. I am thinking whatever color I paint the shed, I will paint the door on the shed the plum color. I think. lol The trim WILL be white like the house, and it will have the very same shingles as the house.

Here is a pic of the shed with the house in the back. It is a cream color with a bit more yellow to it.

I love the shed and the back of your house is lovely! How about a nice hunter green for the shed? It would blend in nicely with your pretty green grass.

Sandy, where are we going to put the pool next get together?
LOL I think it should match the house. Maybe your neighbors didn't use a good quality paint. Maybe their siding on the shed wasn't the best.

I like the one on the right. but I sort of like the one on the left too. sorry. It's just 2 different looks. That being said, you need to do the "squint" test. I think the lighter tile on the left will appear to give you a white-ish color--so stand back, squint your eyes at the painted backsplash area now--do you like what you see or would you want it darker? Maybe do the test again with the tile on the counter--where you have counters so as to get the full effect. If you want it to look really rich, then darker. If you want to keep it light, then the lighter one. I think both will look nice, seriously. I say pour yourself a cup of tea, and sit down and just stare at it. It will come to you. It is sort of like a meditation type of thing. If anybody is home, they will wonder if you are "ok".

We have maple cabinets with a mocha glaze and installed Juparana Persa Brown granite. We felt the brown matched our cabinets better than the standard Juparana Persa. Sometimes I think we may have gone a bit too dark, but everyone who has seen it loves it. One thing we haven't decided on is what to do with the wall at the back of the stove. The granite has so much movement that we haven't found anything we loved that would match it. We did go with a 4" backspash in all other areas. If I get a chance, I'll try and take a picture and upload it. Unfortunately, every picture I've taken so far doesn't represent the kitchen very well.

Yes, in a small kitchen that is visible from other rooms, carrying the same floor through into the kitchen will make it seem more spacious and all-of-a-piece. I'd add another suggestion, if you'd like to consider it. I would paint the lower cabinets in a rich brown/bronze - the darkest tone in your new countertops would be a good choice - and leave the upper ones white. I also wouldn't add surface molding to unpaneled doors...they collect dirt, and ease of cleaning is probably something you want in a full life. Since your kitchen is visible from both sides, dark lower cabinets on a wood floor will feel more like furniture in a room that is part of the whole house. And for that same reason, I would consider carrying the wall color from your family room or dining room into the kitchen as well, to bring the spaces together. You could also use the wallcolor on the upper cabinets in a satin finish, if you want to fully integrate the kitchen into the plan.

LOL Leslie.....there is still plenty of room for the pool!!! It isn't even into the spot that we had the pool, this is against the shrub line. It looks alot bigger in the pic from the way I took the pic.

I have gone over and over colors...we want to do it this weekend, suppose to be perfect weather to paint. I am tending to agree with you Leslie. UNLESS, I get some other great ideas here.

I think you need to side it with the same siding on your house! If you can't do the siding then take a spare peice of it to have them mix the paint color to match it.
Then paint the doors the same colors, which I think plum would be fantastic!

Now tell me was it the pool or the pond everyone P'd in?

Matching the house would look best IMHO. I love the shed. We got one last summer and enjoy it.

I vote for painting it the same color as the house. It will be less noticeable that way...IMO.

I'd be inclined to match it to the house or, if I was feeling adventurous, make a real feature of it and paint the siding plum and the doors cream...the opposite of the house.

Great shed! We built a similar looking one two years ago. Painted it the same colors as the house. Love my shed! I think the plum color for the doors sounds fantastic!

I vote for using the same color as the paint on the house-just make sure you use good quality paint so it doesn't fade.

Hey, wait a minute here! "Everybody" didn't "P" in the pond. It was Flamey that "P"ed in the pond! Most of us are much more reserved than that! LOL

Sandy, What do you think about a dark tan or medium brown. (sort of a wood look) Just make sure it doesn't clash with the door.

I don't remember you having that rock edging back there. Is it new or just me?

Just you Judy....rocks have been there since the pond. 10+ years now.

Funny you say dark tan....we talked about that, but just don't think it will look right with the plum door. I am off this afternoon to try and find some paint colors, also taking a piece of the siding and will try to colormatch that if nothing else looks good.

I REALLY appreciate all your opinions!!! Looks like consensus is to paint it the same color. I will let you know what we end up with!
