I'm no pro but I'd try placing an entertainment armoire (w/doors that conceal the tv) between the pair of French doors...then place a pair of loveseats, in the center of the room-placed perpendicular to the armoire and spaced far enough apart to place a coffee table between them. Then,in the area opposite the armoire, perhaps place 2 smaller swivel chairs, so that you could either watch tv or swing around & enjoy the aquarium. You could place a sofa table behind the love seat on the right side of your diagram..using it as a desk, or use that wallspace on the right for a reading area with a floor lamp & small table, chair & ottoman.

My FR layout is almost identical to this. I have the sofa across the left hand wall but out from the wall about 3 feet. On the wall where your two French doors are I have two chairs with a lamp table between them . In my room the right hand wall is a big window so I couldn't put the TV armoire there. I had to put it in the top right corner. You have plenty of room for a nice entertainment center, if that's how you want to use the space.

Actually my room is only 13' wide. You have a very nice size room and have lots of furniture arranging options.

I can't help with the sofa, but one thing I can suggest . . .I also have young children (7, 4, 2, and one on the way) and our only real TV is in the LR (we have one in our bedroom that never gets used). I hate it in there, but DH doesn't want it in the playroom, so that's that. One of the things I was finally able to do was make the whole wall where the TV is have bookshelves, so the TV is only one part of that main wall. My children have always enjoyed reading anyway, but having such easy access (not to mention how great it is for storage when we get more books, used/new/from the library) makes them read even more.

Our small budget only allowed for IKEA bookcases, but so far they've served our purpose well.

Oops . . .I was going to say, too, if you don't have a TV in that room, I think you have more options since you don't need a sofa to face anything. I am bad at judging dimensions, but couldn't you make 2 sections in that room? I would think a sofa could go along one of the walls without the doors, and then some other seating on the other side of the room?

I sortof like the idea sharon has above, put the armoire between the two french doors.

I'd have the sofa facing the TV centered and have 2 chairs to the right with an ottoman and table between. Then I'd do a small round game table and chairs to the left for games/crafts.

That way you have a family TV room and a gaming area all in one. Personally, I would like having two TV viewing areas. It gives you a place to go when the kids insist on watching their favorite Disney movie one more time!

you could also use on of those sofa's in a L shape - with the lounger at the end. that should fit in there nicely on either side with walking room on either end also (going with the study doors open INTO it). put a couple of chairs across from it with a table in between them. bookcases, desk or combination of those along the wall on the far right. you could leave some open areas on the upper walls there for family photos or a painting. great place for the computer.

you might still have room for a small game table in the upper left corner - or lower right corner.

You have a very generously sized room. You can easily have seating for 8-10 people. Here's an arrangement with 2 full-size sofas, positioned to make it easy to see both a TV and the fish tank, a corner for reading, a game table with 2 players (and with a little rearranging, four players), and lots of room for books, games, toys and knickknacks along one wall.

Thanks all! I'm trying the different suggestions and so far they are all working out. I started with Sharon's - only thing I didn't like was that only left 3' between the chairs and the aquarium for walking. I tried Carol's idea, and think that will work best for us.

suero, I started my post hours ago and just posted it. I missed your post in the meantime. That's also a great arrangement - I don't think DH will go for it since he loves his recliner! (And he isn't a big fan of couches.)
