Comments (36)b w: I hope I didn't come across as blunt! I tried to convey some advice that was economical and practical. Last year, we purchased 4 acres and in a few weeks, the small, old house and dilapidated barn that are on the land will be demolished - and soon the foundation for our new house will be poured. We have spent a ridiculous amount of hours going over house plans - ourselves, with the builder and with the house designer - it becomes like a second full-time job, without the pay! We have learned so much and feel that we have planned for a pretty high-quality home without being extravagant or blowing money. You have to decide on the needs of your family and your every day activities. If you absolutely want a master on the 1st floor, do it. If you do not care about a big foyer space, do what you like - you may have the kind of lifestyle where only a few guests per year use the front door! When you build a house, it's probably the biggest expense/investment of your life, and the last thing you want to do is move in and say, "I wish the powder room would've been closer to (wherever)". Take the TIME now to analyze details, not regret them when you move in....See MoreNeed to choose new exterior house paint colors - will this look good?
Comments (5)I agree with Lori. It's best to pick from all the colors already in your brick -and there are many. It looks like that's what they did when they chose colors the last time, although I wouldn't have favored the orange so much. There are lots of pretty shades of red in the bricks you could choose for you door, several to choose from undo the window. The wine looks like a mis-match in my opinion. I'm not big on paint colors but my description of paint I would choose would be a rustic red....See MoreMy Lake House Reno - Would Love Opinions about Exterior Paint Colors
Comments (7)Hi, those are some "interesting" colour and decor choices for sure. I like the idea of grey/white that you are planning and I think a dark colour would look great with those choices. One of my favourites is Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron. It is what I would call a soft black......more grey than black. Here are some photos of Wrought Iron used on exteriors: For trim and or contrast colours, these are the recommended coordinating colours from the BM site: I'd be tempted to find a cream that is a little less beige than this one - something closer to the trim colour in the photo above with the dark garage doors. Once you have your shingle colour you can decide about the colour of the chimney. You could go with the wrought iron colour on the chimney or you could choose a paint colour to match the shingle colour so it would disappear a bit into the roof. There are some folks who are on Houzz that are very good at photoshop and amending photos to show various colour choices.. Alternatively both BM and SW have paint visualizer tools so you can upload your pictures and play with colours until you find a look that pleases you....See MorePaint: a color less yellow than Wind's Breath (and a bit lighter)
Comments (23)We were stuck on colors too, and trying to pick colors in my ocean/Florida home to go in my mountain/Colorado home was impossible. Test the colors in the room, with the light you'll use. I had an opposite situation -- I was afraid the 3000K LED lights would be too cold and stark with the gray I chose, so struggled to find a true gray that didn't turn beige. All this to say, look at it in place, with the temperature lights you'll be using. Your yellow tones might be pleasant with 3500K lighting....See Morelindybarts
