When one of my rings got stuck on my finger while I was pregnant, my ob/gyn told me to do this:

Take a piece of thick string (I used embroidery thread) and wrap it very tightly down to the ring starting from the top of your finger. Put the end of the string under the ring then pull up slowly working up over the top of the string. Does this make sense? :) Oh, and happy anniversary!!

When this happened to me years ago, I went to the nearest fire station, and they cut it off. I guess you could go to a jeweler for him to do the same thing. Then, he can also fix it back for you at the same time.

Ditto what Haley said. I have used this method a few times and it does work.

Yikes! There is NO WAY that I am going to get it cut off. Oh Haley,thank you for that idea about wrapping string around the finger. I have never heard of that one before! Going to try that in a little while when the swelling goes down a bit.

If the string thing doesn't work, wait till the morning. You may be less swollen then.

My rings get too big for me when my hands are cold....

Maybe try putting your hand in cold water for awhile.

My jewerly store uses spray window cleaner. You might give that a try. Donna

My husband used the same technique Haley described to remove a ring from my daughter's finger. The only difference is he used waxed dental floss.

And my jeweler uses Windex. But for the life I me I can't figure out why that would work.

Yes! Donner above is right...go get the Windex & spray till it twists off. It will. I couldn't believe it either, but did the same thing just a month ago...it worked like a charm. Just keep twisting I told my jeweler about it that week, and of course, he smiled and told me they had all known that for many years. Good luck.

There used to be a place that sold rings and toe rings at a craft booth near here. They had a bottle of Windex and they affixed a sign to it that said "don't ask....it just works". At this point, anything's worth a try. Hope you were able to get it off without having to cut.

With no other solution to offer, I wanted to let you know all was not lost. Sure you don't want to have to cut it, but if nothing else works......

When it's fixed, you can't tell it ever was cut. Hope the string or Windex work though.

Assuming this isn't an emergency (circulation is fine, you just can't get it off), I would take a diuretic (NOT if you have any health problems). Don't mess with the ring for 12-18 hours. Then lube your hand up good (cooking oil will work) or try the Windex.

I worked in a jewelry store years ago and cut off a few rings. Assuming the person knows what they are doing it is a clean cut. There is a little piece that slides under the ring and the saw piece slides into that, back and forth. But they need to slightly stretch apart the cut opening to get the ring off (or makes two cuts, cutting a piece cleanly off to relieve the pressure). The biggest issue is with rings that have patterns all the way around and rings with channel set stones. It works even on very swollen fingers. I cut a ring off a finger that had been stung by a few bees. The finger was huge and circulation was restored as soon as the cut was made.

My husband phoned from work and when I told him he said"don't worry, you sound really frustrated...I'll halp you get it off in the morning". Well, you should have heard the giggles and laughs that brought on from the raunchy bunch that he works with!!! Hey, at least I'm making people laugh!

I tried the string thing...didn't work for me. Went to the corner and bought some ice...numbed the finger...not coming off.
I must be the only person that doesn't have Windex in the house...we make our own window cleaner....it sucks trying to be Green!
There's no circulation problem, just very uncomfortable, so I'll go to the store and try Windex in the morning. I think that by leaving it alone overnight I'll have the best chance. After that, I guess I'll have to try the jewelry store.

Soak your hand in warm soapy water, which will reduce the swelling, then hold your hand under the water and gently ease it off your finger.

Also, olive oil or mineral oil should work. Right now, your finger is swollen - it needs to be left alone. Try putting ice on it to reduce the swelling.

Yup, going to sit down in front of the TV and soak in ice...brrrrrr. Hey that's a great way to keep my hands busy without feeding my mouth!

A few years ago I had to have my wedding rings cut off. UGH! I woke up with a puffy finger(we finally figured that something bit me)and I tried all day long to get my rings off and my finger kept swelling and I just couldn't get them off and I knew that I'd have to end up having them cut off, but my wedding rings were my husbands mothers rings and I just couldn't bring myself to go to the jewelry store and have them cut off. I ended up waiting until my husband came home from work and he just about had a fit that I had waited all day!!! He drove me right to the jewelry store and they were off in just a few seconds. The repairs were done so well that you would never be able to tell! But I came very close to actually losing my finger! It was an ugly mess!

If worse comes to worse, getting the ring cut off isn't so bad. I've had 2 cut off in the past 7 or 8 years. You would never guess they had been cut and repaired .

For now I'd leave it alone and try again in the morning. All the pulling and twisting probably has made your finger even more swollen.

I was going to suggest Vaseline or WD40 to lubricate it. I had to have my wedding ring cut off when I was pregnant because I swelled up so much. They made it a size bigger and can't even tell.

Put your hand in some icy water for as long as you can stand it. Then try the Windex if it is still too tight.

If you can stand to wait till morning to do this, then do so. I am sure the finger is more swollen with all the pulling.
