Where do you keep all of your sink stuff?
Comments (11)Since you are planning your sink, I want to share my review of my new sink setup. I love my tapmaster, although I think it really only makes sense if you also have another hot/cold water faucet either at a different sink or as a hot/cold drinking water faucet at the same, which -- the latter -- we have and love. I cannot imagine reaching down below the sink to get detergent when my hands just touched raw meat. For that reason, I really like our countertop soap dispenser (and the tapmaster). I'm using the built in tilt out to store sponges and brushes. It's very easy to take out for cleaning if needed to. Small volume, but it takes the loose items off the counter. There is plenty of ventilation through the door bumps that the sponges dry out fast. I like it, but you do need to be aware that it limits how forward you can bring your sink; in other words, you need to plan for them. I have a regular sink base and a Blanco sink, and I didn't haven to make any modifications. I know reviews on tapmaster, countertop soap dispenser, and tilt out trays are all mixed. I happen to like all of them....See MoreWhere do you keep your dish drainer?
Comments (27)I haven't owned a dish drainer in years--in fact not since we moved into this house almost 12 years ago. Before that, the drainers we had were always really ugly, so perhaps that fed my aversion to them. We hand wash pots and pans, stoneware, and some glassware, but there are seldom more than a few pieces unless we're entertaining. We have always just put a towel on the counter. With the new kitchen, we had runnels installed in the counter and we have a grid in the sink. We place dishes directly on the runnels to dry, and if there are just a few small items, we dry them on the sink grid. So now, we don't even use the towel, unless the 'load' is particularly large....See MoreWhere do you keep your papertowels?
Comments (31)My rags of choice are cloth diapers. I had a couple of packs left over from when my kids were babies (20 years ago!) and I replenished with some birdseye ones from Target a few years ago (a little thinner than the old thick ones but almost as nice.) I also use old washcloths and cut up towels for rags. We have a bunch of white flour sack towels (from Target--inexpensive, large, and absorbent like diapers) in our powder room that get used like paper towels for drying hands. We have a deep drawer for rags in the kitchen (next to our sink) but a shelf or box/pail under the sink or a step-on trash can would also work for rag storage. We keep dish towels (along with beige flour sack towels for hands) in the shallow drawer above our pots and pans drawers and dish cloths in a smaller drawer next to our sink. The drawers are a bit smaller than I would like so I keep extras in the laundry room for replenishing--that way I don't have to worry about how often laundry gets done. Stains on rags and dish cloths don't bother me---they still look and feel clean even if a bit stained. The towels (regular dish towels and flour sack towels) usually don't get stained. We always air dry our clothes but I like to put cloths and towels in the dryer for the heat exposure since our hot water isn't all that hot. If the cloth is available, it often becomes the method of choice for clean up because it is stronger and usually more absorbent and wringable than paper. I'll admit that there are certain things that I only use paper for (think cat with hair ball and urinary tract issues, new puppy and the occasional sick person.) I only used cloth diapers and wash cloths (no disposable wipes) with my first born--I'm striking a happier balance now. My point is that trending toward cloth doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing intimidating proposition and paper towel usage can be different with each member of the family--depending on what's most comfortable. I really love seeing all the clever solutions for both paper and cloth posted here. Most people who visit still like to know where to find the paper towels and it would be great to have an attractive solution....See MoreWhere do you drain your dishes - save my marriage!
Comments (49)I let things air dry in various places: everyday hand wash items (coffee pot, cat food dishes) -- when the DW is not full, I let things air-dry on the upper rack -- when the DW is full, I let things air-dry on a towel placed on the cooktop grates delicate stuff (knives, barware, china, aerokat) -- small quantities are hand dried -- large quantities air-dry in the dish rack with drain board that normally stays under the sink Then again, I don't live with anyone who cares where things dry out so long as they get their food, nibbles and treats....See Moreoutsideplaying_gw
