I have a similar thing with some fabric shades in a bathroom. We have teeny little gnats that get in there, and I blow the little critters out with a hair dryer. I open the shades as far as they'll go, grasp the bottom with one hand and swing it out away from the window a bit, which seems to improve the angle, and whoosh them out.

Before I had that idea, I taped a Q-tip to the end of a thin wooden dowel and swept them out with that. You could try that for anything left after blowing out the looser bits. You have to be gentle so as not to tear the shade, but that worked like a charm.

As you probably realize, the dowel has to be long enough to go all the way through. Otherwise you just push them all into the center from both ends. Don't ask me why I know that... :>)

The cells in mine are likely larger than your silhouettes, but give it a try. Good luck!

How about those fuzzy pipe cleaners you could pick up at Michaels or maybe a Dollar store. Tape one of those to a skinny dowel.

I agree that we feel sorry about the bugs but that is a good deal! I have bugs in my Comfortex Sheer horizontal blinds so I am going to print this post and try out some of these suggestions. Thank you!

Oh! Fat pipe cleaners! That's MUCH better than a Q-tip.

My DH pops them off and then we take them outside. Open them up and shake out all the critters.

I use a ruler. I tape masking tape (sticky side out) around a ruler ( I use more tape to tape the piece of tape so it doesn't fall off.) I open the vanes all the way and gently slide the ruler in and the masking tape picks up the bug. Voila! LOL.

I've used canned air to blast them out. You can get this at office supply stores.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I tried pushing the bugs out with a long skinny dowel but couldn't get them out intact, and I ended up with scattered bug parts along the vanes. I suspect a pipe cleaner would do the same. I'm going to try using some sticky tape on the end of the dowel next - hopefully that will do the trick!
