No dinner tonight. We went to a birthday brunch, ate too much, and have been dragging around all day. Neither one of us are used to eating heavily at 10:30 in the morning. Left there and went to Costco since we were close, Fred Meyer (there isn't one here locally) then home and had company for a while. Brunch was at a casino. The food is good, I had bacon and tomato omelet, more. And I did gamble a little before we left. I had almost lost my $20, won it back so played some more (slots) and that time I did lose it. DH lost his $5 on a penny machine and quit :) We're not gamblers, and I must say, its a lot more fun when I can break even or win a little. My SIL had begun with $200 and was up to almost $700 in winnings when we left, she has more disposable income than I feel I do.

Jude, is this a special occasion? Your dinner sure sounds like it. Here is the apple recipe I used: Fried Apples 8 medium Granny Smith apples, chopped (I used 4 Gala) 1/4 c. butter 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/8 tsp. nutmeg Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Add apples and remaining ingredients. Saute 15 to 20 minutes or until apples or tender. Serves 6. (If you use 8 apples.) Shirley, it was a good day for vegetable soup. I have the heat back on but Harry's still cold. Mary, your sure keep busy! I love macaroni salad, but I don't like mine all that much. Wish I could have a bowlful of my mother's again. Marilyn, you cook the best meals for being as busy as you are! We ended up with turkey with leftover dressing from last night. (I was on the phone with my sister too long to do the potatoes.) Glenda, sounds delicious--I know you don't care for them, but I'd have to have fries with it. Haven't tried one with grilled onions--next time, whenever that may be. Stacey, happy anniversary! Hope you have many more. Enjoy tomorrow with family, too. Georgysmom, I just love Steel Magnolias and watch it every time I see it's on TV. Sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. We usually only order from the appetizer list when we eat out. Otherwise we overeat and bring enough home for two more meals.

Our friend dropped in on his bicycle this afternoon. He was out on a couple of errands and when he went home he realized that he hadn't taken his house key with him. So he dropped around to put in some time till his neighbours came home who have a spare key. I had taken a baked ziti out of the freezer, and knew there would be enough for 3 of us, so we had that and salads. Some oatmeal-carrot muffins that I made today as well. Terri, I made the hamburger bun recipe that you posted, we had breakfast burgers. I halved the recipe and only got 4 buns out of it, so I'll definitely make a full recipe next time.

Holy cow! I was out in the garage and heard something outside. A lot of garage doors around here (including ours) has a screen across it and works on tracks similar to a sliding glass door. I went over to look out and out of nowhere came an armadillo who casually walked across our driveway and laid down under the downspout next to the garage. Then, here comes another one. Geez, Grand Central Station for the aramdillos around here today. Anybody have a recipe--haha! Mary, gear up--we're all coming for dessert (and maybe some mac and cheese if you have any leftover). That cake sounds delicious. Shirley, your mac and cheese sounds good, too. I'm not too crazy about stuffed peppers but I do like stuffed cabbage. That's a good idea! Jasdip, you really scored on the pork loin. Even $1.88 would be a bargain around here. You can get a lot of meals out of one when there are only two people. Linda, funny you mentioned that Georgia salad with the salmon. I was talking to my sister on the phone this afternoon and she was telling me about a restaurant they went to for lunch one day last week and described that very same salad all the way down to the bacon dressing. They live in Indiana, so I guess they'd have to call it Indiana salad :-) It sounds delicious!
