Didn't you just ask this question on another thread? I remember the same question and responding that I did have a soap dispenser and a Never MT which means that I don't refill the dispenser -- just once a year or longer I replace the bottle in the bottom of the cabinet. The dispenser reaches into the sink (a few have had a problem with that). No soap drips on the counter or spills on the counter. I don't know if soap will mar the marble, but the one bad etch I had was a bottle of dripping laundry prewash treatment, so maybe it would, but that would seem to mean that having a dispenser that works well and doesn't refill from the top is a good thing.

Blondie- You are so close to getting your countertops and your kitchen finished! I can't wait to see pictures. It's going to be beautiful...and so much fun to cook in :)

I've had a soap dispenser for over 10 years. It never landed anywhere but in my sink. Maybe the nozzle on mine was longer, but I never had a problem. I'm doing Carrara for my new kitchen and will get a soap dispenser with NeverMT.

To me, a soap dish is much messier. Suds get all over the counter along with the water and liquid soap WILL get messy. I hated wiping around and under my counter soap dispenser.

I'm chiming in here b/c we have a built-in soap dispenser (though we have granite). If installed correctly, the spout will be over the sink and not over the countertop. So I'm not sure how dripping on the counter would be an issue at all. In fact, having a bottle on the counter would invite more drips (in my opinion and experience from our bathroom soap bottles) because you reach wet, drippy hands up to the bottle spout to get your soap squirt which is directly over the counter. Then you reach your soapy, drippy hands back over the counter to get them back down into the sink. At that point, the bottom of the soap bottle can get a wet ring around it from when your hands dripped water. And the soap can drip from the tip of the spout. I know this is what happens sometimes in the bathrooms with some people when they wash their hands.

With the built-in dispenser, since the spout is directly over the sink, there's nothing dripping over the counter at all. So as long as we don't neglect cleaning around the rim of the dispenser, there's no issues.

lascatz, i did ask the question before and mtnfever replied and pointed me to a thread, which I read and was still uncertain, so decided to ask if it was a specific problem with marble. Thank you for your input.

breeze and babs, it seems like the deciding factor has to do with the length of the spout, to make sure it reaches into the sink, and not drips on the stone above the under mount sink. I'll unpack it tomorrow and check it out. Thank you.

Not just the length of the spout but that it is properly placed for the length of the spout. Make sure the fabricators put the hole for the dispenser in the right place.

And if you have a top fill dispenser (generally easier that one you have to unscrew the bottle underneath the counter, fill and replace), you eliminate the risk of spilling or overfilling and making a mess on the counters (whether it etches or not) by using the Never MT. And one large bottle lasts so much longer.

Are these soap dispensers for dish soap or hand soap? Or do people use the same soap for both purposes? Or are there multiple dispensers? I imagine that might impact positioning to minimize drips.

Close enough to the sink that the spout you have reaches into the sink.

Prickly--the hand soap vs dish soap issue has been discussed in a few recent threads. My hands get dried out by the dish soap so I use my dispenser for hand soap. Dish soap is in the grocery store wand dispenser thing with the sponge on the end. It sits in my sink.

Another con to the dish soap in the dispenser is that you can't really get the soap where you need it on your dishes in a remote part of the sink.

Thanks breezygirl. I will do a search to try to learn more about others' uses of soap dispensers and whether they're doing dish soap, hand soap, or both.

I was also curious, blondie, which purpose do you want your soap dispenser for? I imagine the type of soap might impact the effect on marble.

In case you're talking about hand soap, I'm not certain if it's helpful, but I have honed carrara in my bathroom and have picked up a pH neutral hand soap with an on-counter dispenser. I put a glass dish underneath to minimize dispensing on the counter, but every time I go into clean there is soap residue on the counter. It seems to wipe right up without impact on the marble. No etching or staining at all (after a year). So, if you are talking about hand soap, as long as you use a marble safe soap, the type of dispenser may not matter. You should be able to use whatever functions best for you.

We use ours for hand soap. We just don't hand wash enough soap to justify filling it with dish soap. We're dishwasher people. Something might get handwashed once or twice a week if that. If we hand wash something we just get out the bottle from under the sink. We wash our hands many times a day though. :)

Thanks for all of the great input. I'm planning on using for dish soap, because I generally wash my hands in the bathroom sink. Went yesterday to choose my marble slabs so I will try to post now!

We are getting honed carrara marble next week. We like Meyer's dishsoap, but is that bad for the marble? especially without a built in dispenser?

Gable--it'll depend on how acidic the Meyers soap is. I'm not familiar with your specific soap so I can't tell you about the etching possibility if it comes in contact with marble. Maybe someone else will comment if they're familiar with Meyers. Will you somehow be getting dish soap sitting on the counter regularly? Do you have a marble sample you've been playing with on which you could test the soap? That'll be your best bet to see if it or any of your other favorite products will etch.
