Carrara Marble Countertop Owners- Question?
Comments (17)Thanks lascatx. Thanks breezygirl. I will do a search to try to learn more about others' uses of soap dispensers and whether they're doing dish soap, hand soap, or both. I was also curious, blondie, which purpose do you want your soap dispenser for? I imagine the type of soap might impact the effect on marble. In case you're talking about hand soap, I'm not certain if it's helpful, but I have honed carrara in my bathroom and have picked up a pH neutral hand soap with an on-counter dispenser. I put a glass dish underneath to minimize dispensing on the counter, but every time I go into clean there is soap residue on the counter. It seems to wipe right up without impact on the marble. No etching or staining at all (after a year). So, if you are talking about hand soap, as long as you use a marble safe soap, the type of dispenser may not matter. You should be able to use whatever functions best for you....See Moremarble countertop owners...to hone or not to hone
Comments (10)rubyvine, before I sealed my honed marble, it was indeed like a sponge ... water soaked right in! I sealed it myself with 511 Impregnator available from Home Depot ... easy process: spray on, rub in and wipe excess off. Now water and other liquids stay on the surface. I've spilled all kinds of stuff on it: coffee, tomato sauce, soy sauce ... some of the drips sat overnight ... and no stains. I can't urge you strongly enough to get a good sized sample of the honed marble, seal it and then abuse it. Drip some lemon juice on it so that you'll know what etching looks like and whether or not you can tolerate it. Good luck! Comments (10)I use the acrylic (?) cutting board daily as well as the narrow tray for storing sponges and what not. I have saved the walnut board as a nice piece for serving cheese and crackers. The reality is it is so pretty I don't want to see it get abused as a cutting board. It is also very heavy and not that practical for keeping over the sink where it would have to be moved for washing dishes! Like the other stages owners who have posted up to the board, I also do not use the ceramic mise en place bowls. though they are nice for serving snacks! they are too heavy and large to use in food preparation. I also had my contractor hack off the rack hooks on the bottom of sink so that my silverware drawer could go under the right side of the sink. i have no regrets getting the sink though - it is a fantastic size and I love having the slanted platform for preparing fish and meat...See Moremarble granite counter tops etching
Comments (5)Just a BIG word of warning here. Many of the chemicals mentioned are pretty toxic and dangerous to deal with. The methods discussed should only be utilized by a VERY DIY savvy homeowner who owns the proper personal protection to use such chemicals. MEK especially is pretty nasty and should be used only as a last resort by a pro. Many times the best option would be to relax, and enjoy the developing patina!...See Moreblakey
