How Many of You Have or Had a Lava Lamp?

I never had one of my own, but Cheryl and Terri did. At some point in time, Cheryl gave her's to Amber. Amber is giving it back to Cheryl and she brought it here for her to pick up. So for a little while I have a lava lamp. It is green. Think I will go plug it in and let it run this evening. Anyone else have or had one?

I have one...it was Denny's mothers...Must be from the 50's because Denny and I met in the 60's and it was old then...I think.

It has a dark red wax. The water has turned a tad bit yellowish.

It still works...but I need a new light bulb and don't know what kind or wattage to get.

I love Lava lamps! In fact I have 3 running right now.I guess I'm just an ol' hippy! LOL!

Nights are going to be really cold this week - into the 30's. Anyone who lives in northern states should bring their citrus inside for the winter (if you haven't yet). Provide good lighting, humidity and warmth. Meyer Lemons can take some cold temperatures, but only for a short time. They stop growing and thriving below temps of 50-55F. Good thing to keep in mind. I ordered a temp/humidity meter on Amazon to monitor the air around my tree. If I have extra money next month I might pick up a soil temperature meter to make sure the root zone is warm enough - although I think that is a bit nitpicking, but there is nothing I won't do or buy for my tree friend. I will post pics pics of the 10 lemons on my tree when they start to turn yellow. Hopefully next month. Then again when they are the beautiful gold/yellow color and ripe. Also, I will be taking cuttings today or tomorrow. I have to because the new growth is growing right up to the grow light and will get burnt if I don't remove them. Fingers crossed. I will be very pleased if I can clone my tree instead of buying another citrus from Logees or Four Winds Nursery.

boy, did we ever! ~~ if you could have seen the three-car crash we were in, you would have thought deaths were involved ~~ so frightening ~ we live in the northern suburbs of chicago, but we all go to galena for christmas ~ the bad driving conditions were forecast & we *were* nervous, but that's pretty much the scenario EVERY year ~ & we DO really have such a wonderful time ~ anyway, an UNINSURED nineteen-year-old lost control of her car; our daughter couldn't chose to go into the ditch cuz we were under a cement underpass; so when stacey hit the car it was thrown across the highway where we had gone to try to avoid the crash (thank goodness, there was no oncoming traffic at the time!!)~~ my eyes were closed the whole time, cuz when i heard my husband scream NOOOOOOO & i looked up; saw we would never be able to avoid her; i simply could not bear to watch! ~~ when i opened my eyes & found myself unharmed & alive (thanks to the airbags)~ but i was trapped in the car cuz the ditch was very deep & my door was wedged into the snowbank ~ my husband went flying up the steep ditch to check on stacey & her family ~~ BTW everyone was driving way below the speed limit; however, a car sliding on ice is close to impossible to stop ~ the girl was issued 3 tickets ~ anyway, miracle of miracles, we were all unscathed; & five hours later were back on our way to galena with two rentals joining the two cars that were not involved in the crash ~ we are back home now; but the two cars are in rockford awaiting the decision by state farm if they can be fixed ~~ phyl, from chicago who is so grateful it was not worse!

Have your painted cabinets chipped & how long have you had them?

My Plain & Fancy cabinets are 10 now. Factory spray painted. This Old House did a show on P&F focusing on the painted surface which seems to be especially durable. On the show they were installing white cabinets. Mine are a butter color. The only areas of wear is on the edge and knob of the garbage pull out and on the handle of the dishwasher -- I had purchased a handle from Lee Valley and sent it to them for spray painting. This is wear and it's the type people pay to get on painted furniture. No chipping whatsoever and no separation in the seams either. We are in upstate NY so we have similar temperature extremes as New England. No idea if P&F has changed their manufacturing in the last few years. There was a poster on here with a huge rant on them but I've been very happy with the quality. Kompy, who's a KD, did a gorgeous white kitchen a year or so ago with P&F. You might consult her as well if they interest you.

Not counting vacation homes: Birth to age 17 -- 1 home, my parents home that my Mom still owns although she spend most of her time in a senior living apartment and now just goes "home" for a few days a month. University years -- 6 dorm, sorority house, summer rentals and rentals during junior and senior years. 3 year interlude -- 2 rentals Three Law school years -- 1 owned LLM (post-grad law degree). - 1 year in residence -- 1 rental Last 33 1/4 years -- 1 owned That's 12, 4 cities/towns all in the same state, but upcoming because we are building our retirement home and just sold our long timehome, we are moving to a rental Aug. 1 in our current town for four months and then, hopefully in late November to our retirement home in another state (where we have owned a condo first then a second home for almost 20 years and where DD and her family have put down roots). So by year end I will be up to 14. i think my Mom is only on ther 6th at age 86 -- her parents' first home until she was 4 and then another until she went away to school for her last two years of high school/junior college -- dorm there and then in a dorm at University where she completed her BA. After a brief time back at her parents house she married my Dad and lived in the same house for 63 years (the last 40 after my Dad died). Just last November she moved to senior living and will move to another near us when we move. That will make 7 for her.

I loved my Lava Lamps I left them at the Ballroom Dance Studio where I took lessons they were a great Decor item for our Friday Night dances

yes I had one, can't remember how old I was tho.....I have bought my daughters one at some point in their lives when they came back in style.
They are very relaxing to watch.

We use to have one. We loved it, but somehow it fell and was broken. I think I will look for another one.

I never did. But since we were teens in the 60's our kids wondered if we had been psychedelic doped up hippies. Well, not really us, but they thought everyone else must have been. DH and I met in high school, we were just regular teens.

Pattico, this lamp has a clear 40 watt bulb in it. I am pretty sure it is the original bulb as it looks old.

i gave my MIL one for Christmas one year and my FIL who was blitzed picked it up and shook it rapidly and it never worked. He was a areal prize.

Yep, I had one in college. The metal base got very hot to the touch, I remember.

Jenson13 I think that is what happened to my other daughter, Terri's lamp. Her sister in law shook it! Never good if you do that.

I used to have three that I used as night lights in my bathroom. Have gradually sold all of them through the years in my fleamarket booth.
