Aw, Terilyn, I don't blame you a bit. They're so cute in their little caps and gowns. But maybe they could tape it so you can watch with them when you are therein June. Know it's not the same, but at least you'll be able to see her. Have a wonderful trip. You have one lucky little granddaughter!

I'm sorry it was changed, but... The actual ceremony will be over in a few minutes, and you will all be together for a whole summer of making memories. She's more likely to remember Disney than the pre-K ritual!

I'm sorry you are going to miss the ceremony since it was important to you.

I on the other hand have a problem with "graduations' for kindergarten and pre-k, 8th grade etc. My grandson will soon "graduate from Kindergarten. It cost $50 for the cap and gown, etc. It's something I just don't understand.

Now, forget about it and go have a blast at WDW!

But I agree with Lindyluwho. Graduations at this age - pre-K and Kindergarten are never remembered by the child.

Your grandchild will remember the trip, and that will be a cherished memory, as opposed to being lined up and made to parade across a stage,

I'm sorry to hear about the ordeal. But on the positive side, they moved to an earlier date instead of a later date which would have messed up your Disney trip too.

I feel the same way about graduations like these.

I know, Mom also got the "note" about cap and gown fees! Ridiculous! Of course, I remember buying fabric, sewing costumes and then being charged for our child to wear them in the play!

Tell your family to take lots of photos or video the ceremony. Your Granddaughter won't notice or remember you were not there. Create a good memory a different way-a day at Disney will be wonderful!

Have to agree with the masses here--you're going to be there for the memories the little one will keep a lifetime.

As both a parent and educator, I'm NOT a fan of all these 'little' graduations that mean absolutely nothing--preschool, kindergarten, 5th grade, 8th grade, etc. Really takes away from the importance of the really monumental ones--high school, college, grad school.

You'll see the video, you'll have a fantastic time on your vacation, so sit back and enjoy and let the worry go.

You get to have your granddaughter all summer?? Lucky you. Maybe you can play "graduation" and take some pictures. Do you have a dog? Pretend he is a classmate and put a mortarboard on him! Better than the real thing.

$50?? Good Gracious! My preschooler will "graduate" this year and they do a ceremony, but kids just wear normal clothes, no cap and gowns!

Teresa, it's a private church kindergarten and they can pretty much do as they please.

DGS will be home schooled from now on but he was desperate to go to Kindergarten. They haven't lived in the area that long and didn't know any of the local little boys so they thought it would be good for him. He's a very social little guy. Now he knows the kids he went to school with as well as the ones on his T-ball team.

The youngest DGD wants to go to pre-k and K but I think she will only get to go to one of them. Going to school this year has made Home schooling field trips and such a challenge because they can't do anything before noon.

How about doing your own special ceremony when you get there - obviously not a graduation (one is more than enough for me to be irritated by the whole charade lol) but something else special.

I would imagine that the school never imagined that folks would be making flight plans around the event so it wasn't a big deal to change it. That said, it's important to you, so perhaps you can make it special your way.

Thank god this is all you have to be upset about..I understand it's frustrating when a person doesn't get what they've planned on, but you're right...in the grand scheme of things, this is so very very minor. When I saw the subject of this post, I was prepared for something horrendous, and to read that you will miss your granddaughter's KINDERGARTEN graduation just made me shake my head.
I do realize you probably posted in the heat of the moment, and you've calmed down and aren't "so angry" anymore. I'm not trying to minimize your emotions, or say you shouldn't be angry about something. Let's hope you'll be able to make it to her COLLEGE graduation. :)

Prekindergarten.

"Graduating" from preschool? Seriously? I am sorry that you are disappointed, but .... a graduation ceremony from moving on from preschool? I completely am in the same category as those who don't get it.... "graduations from various younger grades....and in this case very young. What is the criteria for graduating from pre-K? Turning 4? And I am far from an old fogey.

I understand why you are upset, Terilyn. What difference does it make WHAT the event is? The fact is you were going to see a scheduled event that you bought plane tickets for and rearranged your life for to be there, and it seems the school changed the date willy-nilly without considering how people may have gone out of their way to make plans. That being said, there will be many more events that you will be a part of, and you are going to be spending a lot of quality time with your DGD. Have a wonderful summer with your family!

And we wonder why we are raising a generation of entitled kids........ good grief!

I feel your pain. Yes, a prekindergarten graduation isn't of monumental importance, but you planned around their schedule - and then they changed it.

Scheduling is one of the things that drives me nuts about my niece's school. Most of the time, they don't tell us when things are scheduled until a week (or less) ahead of time, which is bad enough. But then when they change the dates!!!

I remember a few years ago, my sister was working as a school nurse and couldn't take much time off during the daytime. But my niece's class teacher scheduled a slide show at night, and my sister was SO excited to be able to finally attend something, only to have the teacher change the time to morning at the last minute, "because otherwise, some parents couldn't attend." (I would have had no problem if she'd polled the parents before setting the date, but thought this was very poorly done.)

Anyway, have a great time at Disney!

We ALWAYS read "Doonesbury" -- love the eternal students at Walden! (We enjoyed the strip's tour of the new Bush library too. LOL)

We also enjoy "Dustin" -- another slacker kid. It must strike a common chord today.

We like the Senior humor in "Pickles", and "Mutts" has such gentle humor.
