How large is to large for a wall hanging?

Okay I am working on a wallhanging to be hung over my love seat.....which is 60" to 63" long! I want it to be as wide as the loveseat but now I also have to think of height! I have to remeasure the height of the love seat tomorow and the wall in my living room but I was thinking in the range of perhaps 50" in height. My question is do you think that is too large for a wallhanging?

This is the pattern I am doing but not the same colors"

I am doing my blocks in pink and wine colors to match my loveseat slip color....I am thinking of doing the house in Red....

I have a 17 foot ceiling. I think I can hang just about anything. Wanna send it my way?

A version of the Z-bar hanger that I have used is something called Hangman (you can Google "The Hangman Store,") made of metal. They make them for wood frames (you screw one part of the hanger system to the top edge of the frame) and for metal frames (the channel in the frame itself fits over the piece that adheres to the wall) -- I needed the version for the metal frame, and that puppy isn't going anywhere either! Plus, you get a little "margin of error" --you can nudge it slightly over to the left or right a few inches if you find you were "off" in the installation. I've ordered mine online but have also seen them at Lowe's (Lowe's has only a couple of the sizes, tho). You might need 2 of them. (I've also used plenty of Hercules Hooks in my house, and I've got to disagree with that suggestion for this piece--I would not be confident that they wouldn't just rip right through the drywall when the full weight of the art hits them. They also can't be used with studs, and I think you want a solution that lets you hit at least 2 of them.) What's covering the front of the picture? Glass? Acrylic? Or is it more of a very heavy painting with just the frame? Another option is to call some framing shops and talk to the owner about an in-home consult to figure out the best option (and maybe handle the install as well). If you're really nervous about doing it yourself, this might be worth whatever a professional framer would charge.

Final Result. Five feet off the ground. I liked ilikefriday's idea of moving it to the right, but due to the small wall space, I think I will just relocate the bookcase instead. Thanks to everyone for your advice and suggestions!

How large a tile is too large for kitchen backsplash and shower walls?

I like those ideas for the shower. Thanks. What about the kitchen backsplash? How large is too large? I can't use Sea Pearl quartzite (my countertop) because my fabricator had to redo a 10ft section of the quartzite I had chosen, so to replace it, he chose a cheaper Sea Pearl that had a different texture and a different color to it. So, I have 10 ft of the mismatched quartzite, three ft of cooktop, and 2 ft of the original quartzite which matches the island. Impossible to match the quartzite on both ends of the counter. My contractor and I have been trying to decide if he can use 6"x12" glass tile for the backsplash, but we can't stagger the tiles where we wouldn't have 1/2" slivers of a U shaped tile. We both think it will break. If I could use larger tile, it might help.

I love this design...did you get it off the internet? It will be pretty in your fabric choices.

I have a large wall hanging in my living room. I think it measures 40x59 but I had to put the 59" horizontal because it went to my ceiling...mine is a lot brighter than yours and I love it...I think I have a picture I can post for you this week. I don't think size matters if it looks good in the room.

Love the colors. I don't have much wall space so I have to do little wall hangings. I do have a quilt hanger over the back of my couch on which I hang the first quilt I ever made. So I guess any size that suits your fancy.

I have seen and I have pix of what looks like King sized quilts on walls..they're HUGE! Often used behind beds, couches etc. The pattern and fabrics you use depend on the rooms size and decor. Have fun with it!!!

Red, I'm working on a quilt that will be 10 ft long x 5 ft high to go over my living room slider doors - kind of like a giant valance. So I have to say - if it looks good to you and you have a sufficiently strong way to hang it - go for it!

Love the quilt design and your colors!

No rules about that. It is just a matter of what size goes with the room and the furniture. We have a twin-sized quilt on the wall of our living room, though it has to share space with the piano, so part of it is covered up.

As long as you have a wall that is big enough - you can put up any size you want, in my opinion.
This quilt is 63 x 63 and I think it looks fine.
