Where do you buy large full marbles for garden spinners?
Comments (15)Shysue, hope this link works. Here is an eBay store that sells the larger marbles, but they do not have that many and before you know it, you have spent $10 for 3 marbles an shipping. Thanks Nestmaster...great idea! Shysue, I just found an online marble place you can buy for cheap. Go to: gelstuff.com I just don't have time to drive around and we don't have $1 stores where I live, unfortunately. Comments (10)Catsrose, I got interested in ALM after reading some post here on HMF about her. Then I read her HMF description and member comments. There were a lot of comments about how her fragrance wafts and is the strongest someone's ever smelled, and how much she's willing to bloom. Here in the summer we're hot and most rose scents burn off to nonexistence, so I got visions of a wafting rose by my front door, always in bloom. Then there's the reported disease resistance, low thorns, and easy care. Something about this rose just seemed almost too good to be true, but I was hoping it's just a treasure that I have yet to experience, I guess. So is it not all of those qualities? By the way, I love cats and roses too, and my dog, so I guess I could have been Catsdogrose. Seil and Catsrose, I was intrigued to see that you're both in Zone 6, but ALM was not hardy for Seil, yet grows to 15X15 for Catsrose. That's a huge difference. Am I missing something? I was hoping that our Zone 5b cold winters would limit ALM to a more manageable size, like 6 X 6, or even 8 X 8. Is that not the correct thinking? I have considered weeping China Doll and other roses recommended, but they're only mild for fragrance on HMF, and I'd like to get something very fragrant that wafts in the front, if possible. I first considered ALM for growing on several arbors that I newly installed. But the lack of hardiness was what made me reconsider. Even though the front of my house is not protected, it's probably the warmest place on this property due to all the concrete and rocks absorbing heat and then reflecting it back during the night. Last winter, my Heritage rose never even lost its leaves, and it's planted in the front. That's unheard of in my zone, though granted last winter was freakishly warm. Thanks for looking at my picture and considering this problem with me....See MoreHow do you store a LARGE collection of spices?
Comments (137)Mine is 24" wide and floor to ceiling. It's built against one side of the fridge and it faces the range. I only need to take two steps to get at anything and I can see everything. It's not near windows so light isn't an issue. I cannot store things like spices in tightly organized spaces as I often have gunk on my hands when I reach for something (disorganized). These shelves hold all the spices -- large and small bottles -- including a row of Bodum glass storage jars that hold different kinds of salt, sugar, baking soda, tea, fancy sugars for guests etc. The Bodum canisters hold up really well and still look new after years on the shelf. I throw them into the dw periodically. Another benefit of the full wall treatment is that I can store my oils and vinegars here as well. I have a dowel to hang up towels and there's a space at the bottom where I have a clip for often used recipes. I need to add another clip there. I've also thought of adding a shelf above the dowels. It could be easily done but I'm waiting until I have someone in to add after market pull outs to two of base cabinets where I stupidly specified shelves....See MoreIs macrame making a comeback?
Comments (10)I think it's made a comeback and may actually be on the way OUT again at this point. I saw macramé wall hangings for sale at Michael's the other day, and once a trend reaches those big box stores and is no longer the darling of Etsy, well ... you know how it goes. That said, who cares if it's in or out, if you like it? I like it very much, but I was boho before boho was cool, making lots of macramé creations back in the groovy 1970s. I made an enormous pair of plant hangers for my parents' sunken living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, and they used them for a number of years. I wish I had still had some of the things I made back in the day. If you can tie knots, you can make your own. The one you posted from PB is actually pretty basic as these things go, and I certainly wouldn't spend a lot of $$ on it. Make your own! It's fun! (At least that's how I remember it.) I think this wallhanging is rather fabulous. Reminds me a bit of Native American regalia....See MoreDavidR
