Please help me find a way to grow Annie Laurie McDowell in Zone 5

I've been drooling over Annie Laurie McDowell since reading about her on HFM. I feel like I just have to have her, but wrestle with the fact that she may not be cane hardy to make a climber in my zone.

However, a new idea has struck. I'm also looking for a shrub to drape over a 3' tall terraced area on my front driveway. This area is rock mulched, south facing, and in the middle of an expanse of concrete, creating a warmer microclimate, which would benefit the more tender ALMcD. In addition, I wouldn't need her to be a climber in this spot. I just need her to be a shrub capable of draping over the 3' high terrace wall. I was told that she has the lax canes that make for a good draper. Is this true? How big could she get in Zone 5b? What shape would she be if grown as a shrub. Have I found a place for her at last?
