.....Plastered on the side of our house!

I thought we had strong wind for the past couple days! Yikes! this is crazy today! I was in the WalMart parking lot and I had to lean into the wind, just to hold ground.

A tree (granted it didn't look healthy) 2 doors down is snaped off. The sky is all dust. The weather channel says we are having gusts up to 50 miles an hour.

I know there are parts of the country that often have strong winds, but that is not normal here in mid- Minnesota.

LOL we always have wind here....but I so hate it feel for you!! One day I was pushing my cart in the parking lot at walmart and my sack with syrofoam cups when flying thru the air...had to chase them half way across before I finally caught them!! Crazy....Stacy

We had 50 mph winds last week. DD#1 had her car at work and a big tree blew down on it! That hard of wind is scary! The boys thought it was really something that a tree fell on Mommie's car! LOL

Hi Harv, You must prune off the reverting branches on your maple. They'll grow more vigorously than the variegated branches, and it's best to cut them off as soon as possible. Great post. I'm in the NE but surprisingly I see much of the same results that you have. My growing season is a bit longer as I don't have to deal with nearly the heat and humidity that you do although my transplant date is the middle of May. In terms of your questions regarding green cherries, the two that I know of that people give favorable reviews of are: - Green Doctors/Green Doctors Frosted - Green Zebra Cherry Some other prolific cherries you could try is Matt's Wild Cherry and Mountain Magic (F1). I haven't tried Sweet Million, but have tried Sweet 100 Million with good success. Also Dr. Carolyn's is very prolific and robust. It's a little later to develop than your typical cherry so it would be interesting to see if it does well in your climate. In terms of blacks, try Indian Stripe. It supposedly has a very similar tast to CP, but is more prolific and provides fruits earlier than CP. In terms of yellows try Hugh's. In terms of reds, I've heard good things about Ramapo (F1). You could also try your hand in grafting your tomatoes to rootstock to improve soil pest resistance and possible introduce more vigor to your tomato plants. There are various opinions on GW about the validity of grafting, but I think in your environment it would be a good thing to try (if nothing else at least you could buy the "Grafting - Been there, done that." There are expensive rootstock seeds you could purchase like Beaufort, or you can purchase cheaper hybrid seeds that already have soil pest resistance genes in them like Celebrity. You could even try your hand hand at making a 'Frankensteinian" tomato-eggplant mix using the eggplant rootstock "Black Beauty" which some people swear by. If you want to learn more about grafting type in "Cary Rivard" in Youtube. Dr. Rivard has a bunch of conference seminars that were video tapped and are now on Youtube. smithmal

Sandy, I have to disagree. There are certain words I will not use because they are so offensive to others. To me they are also derogatory. Whether or not that makes them "bad" words I guess is up to you. Such as the "N" word, the "Q" word and even the word FAT when referring to someone. I don't think "a group of religious men" (what there are no religious women?) decided these were bad - to me they are offensive and out of respect for others, I do not use these words and others. I made that decision myself, not because someone told me. How is your whole comment not narrow minded? Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion. I don't believe anyone is telling you not to swear, or that they would not associate with someone who swears.

Oh Bama!! I love the mirror!! You have to be thinking 'rita's chips, salsa etc when you were making that one. The colors are PERFECT and go together so well. Are those mirrors in between the yellow and red/orange glass?? or is it black tile?? Whatever.. it looks so goooooooddddddd!! I swear it looks just like the hot sun is pounding down at that mirror making you thirsty for thos ritas!! LOL I do love it, you are on a roll!! I see a fish a fish.. will check t hat out next.

Leslie, We have 91* right now, and that is in the shade.

I wonder if the leaves on the trees (that are just coming out) could get dried up from wind-burn. That would be a real shame.

I live close to the Cathedral in St. Paul, and today I thought it would be nice to walk downtown and do some research at the history center. On the way home--up hill--I was fighting the wind all the way and had to work on regaining balance several times. When I came home I noticed that my kitchen countertops felt kind of grainy. I was wondering, what did I spill? until I realized it was a solid layer of gritty dust that had blown in the windows. I guess that gritty layer is on everything in the house at the moment.

Marita, I would not want to be walking in this wind. You must have been peppered with sand at times. It's a good thing many of the streets have already been swept of the winter buildup. You made me go and check some of my surfaces in the house. I must have good windows, cause I only found the usual fluffy dust (you know, those dust bunny seeds!)

Glad you made it home, If it was up-hill, I know I could never do it.

That would be tropical storm winds here in Florida.

Our weather is whacky--right now it's 60 degrees and it's been raining for almost a week now--every day and night!! Who'd think MN and ND would be warmer than FL in May?

We've had an exceptionally windy spring this year (if there ever was spring--just a few day's ago I still had the heat on). I feel sorry for roofers today!

I'm in Minnesota too, and yes, it sure is windy today. But the weird thing is that it's hot, 97 degrees and windy! Cold and windy we're used to but not hot and windy.

I just had my newly planted annuals covered at night a few days ago. Seems like summer is here now.

Hot and windy, yes. But remember the frost just a couple days ago?
Monday morning the grass was white with frost; Tuesday afternoon we had 92 degrees. No wonder Bigbaby can't get comfortable.

I think it's all the southerners coming up here and exhaling! Currently 94Â°and the winds have dropped to only about 30mph. Yesterday was about 98Â° with higher winds. Been keeping the place closed up to keep some of the hot air out. Otherwise I'd open up and let the wind dust the house for me.

Checked Houston Tx temp yesterday and it was about 25Â° cooler. But tomorrow it's supposed to return to seasonable temps.

Both the cats have been like motionless blobs. They don't like it warm either.
