Request advice on a shade style to go with this lamp.
Comments (5)I think that is a lovely lamp. However, don't mean to be rude, but I really don't like any of the shades you tried on it and I think they cheapen the elegance of the lamp. I really think the original looks by far the best. Actually, I think a much smaller classic pleated shade on a short harp might work, and put most of the attention on the lamp itself....See MoreHelp me find the right shade for this lamp.
Comments (3)Black , oval and hardback with the gold or tortoise interior I agree. Sometimes they came with tole metal ones. If you look at Visual Comfort lighting they have some lamps like this. These lamps were meant to have shortish shades with the handle sticking out the top about like it is. Check out this link. They make custom shades and you can pick your shape and size. Comments (37)"I did remove the large floral from the living room and it created a BIG HOLE!" Not really. What you need is a rearrangement of the furniture. Right now it is not set up to function comfortably with the coffee table is too far from the loveseat to be able to use and a chair jammed into the corner crowded in by a tree and a pot of greenery ready to fall on someone's head from on top of a curio cabinet. Everything is set around the whole room making it an obstacle course to get through the room. I would center the rug on the fireplace. Pull the one chair out of the corner more towards the fireplace and put the other chair next to it keeping the pedestal table between them. Put the couch opposite the chairs cozied up to the fireplace. This will give you a nice tight grouping good for conversation with easy open access to the seating. Then you will have a nice pathway to pass through the room too. I would put the beefier console on the big wall and hang the tapestry higher above it. Do you have two chairs you could take from another room to flank the console? Rearrange the metal wall art to fit in with this grouping. The ideas above are using what I see in the room but I bet you could 'shop your house' and switch out many pieces for a better fit in this room. You don't show all of the rooms in the house but I am thinking the secretary may have a better place for it where it will be a real focal piece. Right now it is dwarfed by the pillars and doesn't really shine. Lose the pedestals and the wire screen. Just keep greenery on the tops of some of the short walls. If you like flowers use dried ones - or even faux dried ones. The one place in the room that could really handle a nice large flower arrangement, is the coffee table. Not one too high though....See MoreDate this lamp (or otherwise help me find a shade)
Comments (16)Yep, there it is. Good find, and it looks like Lindac92 pretty much nailed the date, too. And it's true, replacement shades, regardless of period, tend to be expensive... Those straps you spoke of... I suspect their purpose is merely to hold the socket body, which is probably a non-conductive plastic of some sort, on that white platform. I doubt very much that the metal straps have any part in conducting electrical current. That's what insulated wires are for. Could they act as a ground? Technically yes, but only to electrically bind all the metal pieces of the lamp together so that in the event there was a short circuit, probably caused by an insulation failure, the rogue current would be directed to the ground wire, which is always Green and which leads directly to the round pin of a three wire plug. I'm betting the lamp doesn't have a three-prong plug, or a three-wire cord. Regardless, if you're worried about it, get it checked out by someone who knows. Could be an electrician, but if you have a lamp repair shop anywhere nearby, take it there, have them address your electrical concerns and ask them to replace that missing screw (or whatever) while you're at it so that the bulb will be stable when you have it all together again, ready to use....See Moremartinca_gw sunset zone 24
