Black would definitely look better than the white one. As far as shape goes - I like the contours of the shade you have now, except that it looks a little short. If it was fifty percent taller on the lamp and black I think it would be great. Also - "Tiffany-esque" and glass faceted shades would work well. Brass shades - even those beaded turn of the century silk shades - lots of options depending on your room.

Yes, black, or dark red if you like, and oval, and not far from the proportions of what's there. A parchment type with a gold or tortoise shell interior would suit it well. I think you need to add candle sockets and covers to raise the bulbs up inside the shade in any case.

Black , oval and hardback with the gold or tortoise interior I agree. Sometimes they came with tole metal ones. If you look at Visual Comfort lighting they have some lamps like this.

These lamps were meant to have shortish shades with the handle sticking out the top about like it is.
