OT-Time for the weekend roundup!

DH & I are headed out EARLY (like 6 am) tomorrow morning for our choir tour in Washington, DC. We sing tomorrow night at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, then Sunday morning at the National Cathedral and Sunday afternoon at Mount Vernon. We have Sat. free to play, so we'll visit my sister and some dear friends who live in Richmond and are driving up to see us. Flying home again on Monday.

If you're in the area, come on out and hear us sing! :)

We're in the host car club for Americruise - next 3 days at the Fairgrounds - some work, alot of sitting and watching people, walking around looking at all the cool, beautiful street rods and classic cars, some shopping at the vendors, and some "fair food". I love it! One of my good friends is moving out of town soon, and selling half of her very large stash - and the garage sale is Saturday, when I'll be at the above event - so one of my other quilting friends is my "designated buyer" armed with a blank check (with a limit) and a list of preferred colors, etc. and I'm kinda excited to see what she snags for me - it will be a surprise, like Christmas! Speaking of Americruise, last year I went around and snapped pictures of the most colorful, neatest cars I could find - narrowed it down to about 28, and next week I'm printing them off on fabric (took me a year to do this, and never done this before) and they will be a wall quilt - I'll post a picture when I get them all together.

We aren't sure how long he will be in the hospital. They are performing an arterial bypass in his arm. The artery was damaged with a large clot causing significant blockage of blood flow. This surgery is GOOD NEWS. This is all follow-up from his accident last July. The vascular surgeon told us that this was not corrected last year because they never thought he would be performing normal activities. They thought he would be in a wheelchair/walker for the remainder of his life. So, with him back living a normal active life, the artery and clot are causing pain in his arm. Large hospital in the city. They have several atriums and courtyards. The problem would be what to do with the plants after potting. I'll take my laptop, some books, gardening magazines, etc. DAVE - You just don't know yet how much you may scale back. Then, there's the muddy little Katie Rose you'll be dealing with. After they "helped" me in the garden, I would strip my 2 down to their underwear and hose them off before letting them in the house!

Well, I do genealogy, so suffice it to say I have been in my share of cemeteries! We have found, and I know you're going to think this is real strange, that we get "guidance" in finding the graves. Many times we have gone to a cemetery we have never gone to before, we drive around and finally decide to pull over, and wham! The headstones we're looking for are within a few steps! But this story is one I just have to tell: DH's grandfather had a brother who just kind of "disappeared" from records. He was last seen on the Edna, KS census with his wife and daughter, and then the next census year I found Martha, his wife, married to another man. I don't know if he died or if they divorced. I think I found him in Missouri, with a new wife, living next door to one of his married sisters. But I'm not sure. The reason is that his name was James Jones, and there are a lot of people named that. So, I found the probate records of when James and DH's grandfather's father, Tom Jones (eeek! See what I'm working with here?) died. It said that James was deceased and left one heir and that she, Effie Jane, had married a man named James VanAusdal. Through some detective work, I found that James VanAusdal was a druggist, and he ran a drugstore in Welch, OK. Curious to find out what had happened to James Jones, and hoping to find a descendant who could tell me, We went to Welch and found the place where the VanAusdals had had their drug store. We found a local who called his dad, who remembered James and Effie Jane's son, but not them, and didn't know where they were buried or anything. So, we went home with little more than we'd started out with. They did give me the name of the local undertaker, though, so I wrote to him and got a reply saying that the eldest son had been buried in Chetopa, KS. Well, that's just a hop, skip and a jump from Welch, OK, but a little further when you start out from Dewey. So on one Saturday we got in the pick-up and headed for Chetopa. Halfway there it began to get colder and started to rain. Icy rain. We forged ahead. After stopping at a Quick-Trip for directions, we easily found the cemetery, and it had a directory but the VanAusdals were not listed on it. And, modern stones were all mixed up with the old-fashioned ones so we really had no clue where to start. I finally decided to start at the back. DH would NOT get out of the truck! With an umbrella in one hand, I started walking the cemetery. My feet got wet. My jeans legs got wet. I was cold and starting to get tired. I said, out loud, "OK, Effie Jane, if you want me to find you, you better guide me to you cause I'm getting ready to head for the truck!" I turned to walk towards the truck and there, right in front of me, was a huge maroon granite stone with "VanAusdal" engraved on it in big letters! Behind the big stone were several smaller ones all lined up. Effie and her husband, their three grown children (who I found out never married and therefore that line died out with them) and Effie's mother, Martha Rodgers Jones Bonham. I guess I'll probably never find out what happened to James, except that he was deceased by the time his father died.

Plans for the immediate future: Get better. I called my mom yesterday and she asked how I was feeling, since I left Minnesota not feelin' so great. I ended up in urgent care yesterday with my boyfriend talking for me, because I have a sinus infection and two ear infections! But, I'm on some really awesome antiboitics now, and the boyfriend is taking good care of me. :) Earlier, we went to Saturday market and looked at the fruit/veggies and yarn/fabric. Next week, I'll probably buy some, but this week, my best friend was chomping at the bit to go to the airport, even though we told him he needed about fifteen minutes to check in, he wanted an hour and a half! I told him "This is EUGENE, NOT Minneapolis!" But he wouldnt listen. :) Tomorrow, I have some cleaning to do, and then I'll search around for fabric and yarn shops in the area. Monday, we're going to the library. :) ~ Kit

I'm driving up to Michigan to visit my aunt who's having open heart surgery on Monday. I haven't seen her in a long time. She called and wanted me to visit so I'm going for a drive....300+ miles each way. My son is going with me to keep me company and my aunt has never met hin just talked to him on the phone.

I have Mon, Tues and Wed. off. (paid holiday I might add!)No definate plans, really. One cook out with friends Sat..then just gonna enjoy the time off!!

Scraphappy -my sister and BIL used to be in a Thunderbird club..I spent many a holiday with them at car shows..what fun! Have a great time...and don't forget the sunscreen..lol.

Well, mine's going to be a bit frantic. My son (who is in Kenya on a field study) has been given a plane ticket to visit his girlfriend in San Francisco, from gf's mother. She told her mom that all she wanted for her birthday was to see Paul, but her work schedule wouldn't allow her to return to Texas. She turns 21 on the 4th of July. So Paul will get home from Kenya on the 2nd, and fly to SF on the 3rd. Can we all say "jetlag"?? LOL. He doesn't even know he's going.

We have had no communication with him at all. They have no internet connection, no cell phone towers, and they only fire up the generators from 6 pm - 11 pm. They've been handwashing their clothing. But how could I turn down such a wonderful gift? He can always sleep on the plane, LOL.

I decided to make Jen a quilt for her birthday, so I have been frantically piecing, and finished that yesterday. Today I finished quilting the QOV on the longarm so I could load Jen's quilt, pieced the backing and ran to the quilt shop for batting.

Tomorrow I quilt! Binding is going to be a sod, though - I HATE hand sewing the binding! It usually takes me weeks. I have 4 days.

I will probably spend the entire weekend restoring it.

Msmeow~Wave as you go by exit 126 on I-95!! I won't be there, but we live a mile or two off that exit!!

DH & I are taking the newly-turned-18 (step)twins to Charlestown, WV for the weekend so they can gamble for the first time. This is their birthday present. My parents are babysitting at the house until we return Sunday noon-ish.

I might get some dresden plate blocks done in the car...have 5 pinned and ready to go. This is my top project right now. I just brought up the book on my new/used embroidery machine so I can read up on how that works...I might play with that some.

Saturday evening, we will be on our friend's houseboat for a fireworks display on the lake.

Sunday, drop off DS at Boy Scout camp for 7 days....weeeee!

Well starting tomorrow for 2 days only they are having a 1/2 Sale on everything in a thrift store down street from my house....I have been in there already 3 times this week I just love this thrift store....so I will be there when the doors open at 9am.....I bought so far this week 3 new tops for you know who and 2 really cute walking shorts for her the shorts were also new and have the elastic waist she likes and the tops are pull overs and no buttons...my brother seen them the other day and said he couldn't believe they came from the thrift store....because they still had store tags on them....for myself I bought about 5 tops they are sooo cute...and I bought 2 pairs of walking shorts..... all of this for $20.00 bucks and this wasn't half off LOL! I also picked up a christmas jello mold pan(new) with santa, tree, and gingerman, snowman and stars for 39 cents can you believe that and I bought a cake pan (new) 69 cents LOL its makes little rabbit face cakes 6 total..... I got those to make for DGS!
I have my eye on a couple things just hope they are there tomorrow LOL!
The only drawback going to this store is you really have to go in a couple of times in a day to see what they have that is how they put things out.....and this store is pretty busy so if you see it you better buy it because it won't be there if you go back for it LOL.....

We're still unpacking! Made it back to the States safe and sound last week, now it's time to organize and put away all our 'treasures' lol Oh, and I'll *finally* be able to get some projects started -- it's been two months!

One project on our list is to put up shelves in a nook in our bedroom and in my sewing room closet. The past couple of days I've cleared out the closet from when it was my DD Sarah's room -- that was quite a chore! I've bought the shelves and some brackets, but forgot to get screws! ugh.

I'm also hoping to go to scraphappy's friend's garage sale! (scraphappy and I live in the same town!!) Plus, we'll get to see some of those very cool cars she mentioned -- I *love* seeing those beauties!

OK, Looks like I'm the dull one this week. I'm not doing much of anything !!! The only thing I have planned is to go to a LQS on Saturday. They are having a " 2nd anniversary party" sale. I see some good deals :-) Donna give a shout as you go past Richmond thats where I live. Mary in Va

I am going through all my quilting stuff now....ugh. i have to organize it and get it moved into the other room....again ugh. DH wanted me to do this, and I was okay with it, but I don't think he is going to like it in the end. The only thing I am noticing, besides how unorganized it became, is that I need to do some fabric shopping:) LOL

I can't figure out where it all went!

Oh, I have been searching everywhere here and at mom's for this fabric I bought 2 yrs ago before we moved. I just found it!!! LOLOLOL It was in the back of one of my drawers of fabric. I think I am losing it!

Nothing else planned other than work on Sat morning and cleaning the house over the weekend. I have 4 different jobs now and cannot figure out how to schedule my time, so nothing is getting done.

I spent 3 1/2 hrs tonight soaking down the garden and flower beds to survive some vey hot weather moving in overnight.

Tomrrow I will try and get up early so I can practice this NYB block and take some pictures. DH is going to help DD change the oil in her lawn mower and move some sprinklers. I do my volunteer work at the hospital tomorrow 12-3. DH does my vacuuming while I'm gone and will sometimes also wash the kitchen & bath...he's a treasure and a keeper!

July 1 is a holiday in Canada. Our city celebrates with Fair Days but we will only go to the parade on Sat. I'm having a patio lunch after with ham, hot dogs, corn on cob and baked beans.

Sun & Monday...R&R...staying cool....maybe sew on a quilt.

The oldest and his family will be here today to spend a week with us. I can't wait to get my hands on the GKs! They all want to go on a swamp tour but Grannie will stay home, thank you, and just finance the boat ride. It will be so good to spend the week with all of them so I can do some catch-up spoiling.

DH and I just brought home our new travel trailer so I get to spend the weekend putting everyting in it. We're going back to camping after several years of being too busy with kids schedules to find time to go.

Just got back from TX and going to NC in a week so I'm soooo glad to be home and sit in my own chair and play in my sewing room!

Please can I be the dull one this weekend? It's a long weekend in Canada (Canada Day July 1) I need a quite weekend to do as little as possible - unless it's quilting! Last weekend we attended my GD grade 12 graduation, an all day affair on Friday, early early Saturday morning I sat with my grandson and girlfriend while their baby arrived. Preach at a small country church on Sunday and passed out during the sermon (added lots of excitment to the sermon) had a ninty minute ambulance ride and spent the rest of the day in emergency. Still don't know why I passed out but I'll see my own doctor today. Please I need a nice quite weekend.

Very dull weekend at home taking care of my two old men but will be sewing as able. Our LQS has 20% off everything so might drop in. I too love to visit my favorite thrift stores and I pass by often. Usually buy books while there. I have two tops done and ready to quilt but am holding off for a week as I will be going to a class from a professional who will show me what a bad job I've been doing so far. I can ruin more nice quilts with my darn freehand machine quilting. I call it folk art.

Lately I'm getting into these kalaidescope quilts with these small hexigon blocks you can see in the book "one block wonders". Fascinating process. So I wander about looking for fabric specific to that process, large flambouyant prints. Very arty. If I'm not piecing, I'm still building something in my head! Have my next 6 or so already thought out. Did anyone say "get a life"???

Yes it's already that time of year again. We start practices August first so at least I will get a little bit more vacation.

Tomorrow my neighbor and I are doing a yard/craft show thing here in our yards. It's only from 8-1, but what a pain getting ready! I am focusing mainly on selling burp cloths, binky bibs and some bonnets that I had made for a craft show we were supposed to do that got cancelled. That stuff is already and priced but then I just hauled 4 boxes out of the basement to price...hahaha. I'm kind of sad, this neighbor rents the house next door, and the landlord just told them that when their lease is up in August he is selling the house. They are trying to buy it, but that might not work out for them. This is the first time any of my neighbors have become good friends, even her DH and mine getting along really well. I am keeping positive they will be able to buy the house, and they won't move, and I won't have to worry about breaking in new neighbors!LOL That's the side Lucy's pen is on, so it takes special people to live next to her...hehehe
Jayme and boyfriend will be over Sunday to watch the race with us, and Wednesday for a bbq....

Nothing really planned this weekend. We may go watch the fireworks on Saturday night. But I'm not feeling so well(IBS) so I may just stay home. I know when I get real bad cause I have no desire to sew and that's where I'm at the last few days.

I had my first day off with no plans. Did a few errands and have focused on making soft meals for my poor child who got braces this week. He was an easy baby but seems to be trying to make up for it now. :) I keep telling him that I do understand, since I went through it too.

Sat. and Sun: gardening, some writing, organizing some part of this pitiful house and hopefully some sewing of my Stack and Whack blocks from last week...

I'm working on the same project I have written about for the last month...the wedding quilt. Today I cut the borders and plan to work on them tonight and tomorrow if I don't finish tonight. I ordered the extra wide backing online and it arrived on Wednesday. It is prewashed and ready for the frame.
I will be on vacation all next week. I plan to visit "The Doormouse" quilt shop on Tuesday with a good friend. It is a 2 hour drive each way but worth the trip.

H-E-L-L-O Everyone. It's NORTH TO ALASKLA I will be back in 2 weeks IT'S CRUISE TIME......We leave for Anchorage Monday 6 am. I have been kinda nervous about this trip but I am so ready I need a break. And for everyone who knows who Winston is I sure am missing him and I have not left yet.
So its off to packing the weather says rain but I do not care and the temps are 40- 50-60's I will pack some sweathers.

Scrappy I love that REd truck the color is beautiful.

Lisa the next time I see you you could be a Granma....good luck with the sale.

Just to clarify, everyone, that first picture is NOT my DH's, don't know whose it is, but that is an awesome vehicle!! Second picture is our truck, with DH up on top polishing it - it is a neat truck but the picture does not do it justice. Thanks for the comments, though.
