OT - holiday weekend plans?

It's the weekend! (Well, almost.) What's everyone doing?

DH got the cast off his hand today and is in a splint that he can take off periodically. He's really happy about that, and maybe that means I won't have to mow the yard much longer! That's my plan this evening if it doesn't rain. He's working tomorrow so I'm going to do some shopping and then hopefully Sun & Mon I can make some good progress quilting my niece's Shakespeare in the Park quilt. I think DH is planning to try to finish painting the kitchen, so I'll have to try to stay out of that! :D

We have motorcycle friends arriving today for the weekend. One is staying in a hotel, the closer friend is staying here. So I'm preparing the house and changing the bed linens.

The men will probably ride bikes into DC to look around on Saturday, but without a babysitter I'm stuck at home with the kids.

Sunday is a big Rolling Thunder ride into and around DC. Kids will be at MIL's house. Things get quiet again on Sunday...

Did get DS's 2nd I Spy quilt done today..it's in the wash now! Whooo hoooo!!!

if you can believe it, it is 93 degrees with poor air quality right now..in Maine, in May. unreal. My allergy induced asthma and allergies are having a grand ole time, the air conditioners are going in tomorrow! hahaha...
parade Monday, but that's about it for us,

Lynn...I feel for you Big Time.. I know of all the 'prep' that goes into doing a huge painting job and it's no picnic. But like the others have said, think of how relieved you will now feel that it's all behind you. It does play havoc on your body too...seems there are muscles used that we never knew we had till they ache! The reason I can relate..when we lived in our 'This Old House'... DH always had some 'project' or reno planned that would start in the Spring, But ALWAYS went right up to the final hrs before the Holidays. This always brought on major stress since we were the ones who would host all the family for Christmas. I do have to say, once it was over..it was over and it felt sooo good to enjoy what was done... This too will pass Lynn...once it's all put together again, I know I will be 'seeing' your big smile as you're enjoying the results! jane

momj47, THANKS for the recipe...that cake looks amazing! I keep wondering though, who has 10 cake pans?!! virginia, it sounds like you made special plans to me. Working in the yard is a plan (which is mine this weekend); about whether or not it's special I guess depends on how you feel about it when it's done! gibby, your cooking plans and lake weekend sound fun. Enjoy all that good food! I had a dream yesterday morning we bought a lake place (without a boat), and it was across the street from the lake. I remember thinking I liked the view until a car drove past to obscure it for me. I guess that tells me if I ever get the opportunity, what NOT to do! eileen, Yumm! I may just have to add potato salad to my menu for the weekend. It sounds delicious, especially with my ribs. terri, I'm not finding any good strawberries yet since ours are mostly shipped in, so I'll bet it will be Father's Day for us too. Have a wonderful and tasty holiday! (I love the idea of London Broil.) My closest TJ's is in St. Louis which is a four hour drive for me. Obviously I haven't made that in an while! I'm headed to the meat market for some lean bacon, then off to find my ribs...

First, Hello everyone. Newbie here. I hand quilt. But yes, I quilted most of the weekend. And most of this week. I've had off this week from school so its provided a great opportunity to put down the textbooks and relax. (College - I'm 22.) You have to excuse my lack of lingo. But I have pinwheel blocks which are sown together- which are 7 '' x 7''. And I had to add a 3 1/2'' x 9 1/2'' , plus a 3 1/2 x 6 1/2''. Strips to each of the pinwheel blocks. To give me a final block of 10 1/2'' x 10 1/2'' squares. Out of 42 blocks needed of the 10 1/2 '' x 10 1/2'' - I've completed 33. I would say this weekend I completed about 22. I got bored with making so many pinwheels. So, I skipped to the next step leaving out 9 pinwheels, which I have not sown yet. So, now that the rest of the blocks are completed. All of you too! I made Passover seder for 34 people Wednesday night and really had to laugh as my coil burners could only turn hot and red on parts and all the numbers on the control knobs are worn off. My oven is so tiny it's a dance to take turns with items going in and out. My friend calls it the "Easybake" oven! My MW is needed for more cooking space but you have to open, shut and restart from time to time to stop it from making a screaming sound. My counter space is tight and food is aplenty, so the top of the fridge becomes extra counter space. I'd been trying to keep myself reasonable with new kitchen plans, looking at the kitchen that I've used for more than 17 years that is fitted with, of course, honey oak cabs that look new (but the set up and center stiles on all are a pain) and white formica counters that amazingly have not a mark on them. I've found myself saying "Is it really necessary to do all this??" So, with my new appliances sitting in my garage and plans being finalized, I can just smile and tell myself... Yep, necessary it is! Happy days to all...

I am working on a Memorial Day Mystery Quilt with a Yahoo group this weekend... Some of the kids are suppose to be here to go on a canoe float with their dad. I may have Miss Bentlie Sunday other than that a quiet weekend at home... grace

I plan to just stay home.work in the yard,sew,some cross stitching and eating whatever.We don't get on the roads on holidays anymore.Just a laid back weekend for me.the best kind!!!

I have several quilts in process right now, including two that are paper pieced (my first try at this), so I hope to spend a lot of time at the sewing machine.

Since our land borders on Route 66, we'll be hearing a lot of motorcycles on their way into D.C. for Rolling Thunder.

My oldest daughter coming over tonight to layer a quilt. I hope I'll be able to help a little with my back acting up. The two daughters still home are out there making home made pizza for supper as a young man from church is paying a visit also. Grandson is staying here for the night and the two boys are camping out in a tent in the side yard.
We did have plans to finish putting in the garden in the morning. Well, I guess I can supervise that one. Going to Lowe's to buy some flowers for my front flower garden in the morning.........maybe.
Sunday of course we have church fellowship.
Monday hubby is home from work and I hope to grill out some free range chickens on the grill and have some salt potatoes.
I've been reading the directions on the Pineapple quilt this afternoon when my oldest reminded me that I have the material washed and ironed for a Card Trick Quilt also from Quilt in a Day. Oh bother so many quilts so little time!
By the way my plans to hand quilt one block a day on my Dutchman puzzle was a joke. It's been a week and I have almost one block done LOL. If I finish it in my lifetime it will be a great accomplishment!
I hope everyone has fun over the long weekend.

Staying home here the traffic to the beach is already backing up. Plan on quilting will not be out on the roads again till Tuesday.

We're flying back to our California house today. We just spent 2 weeks in our Connecticut house. It has been beautiful, but yesterday was hot! Next year if we're back here in May I want to stay over the Memorial Day weekend. I really want to see the small town celebration. So tomorrow I will recuperate and then Monday I need to get the boarders on a quilt and get it sent out to be quilted.

Not a holiday weekend in Canada - that was last weekend but a beautiful day here. The sun is shinning and the birds are singing - all is right with the world. My youngest daughter and I went to a quilt show yesterday in the nearest city - so many beautiful quilts, so little time!! I'm making a Fons and Porter quilt for a silent auction to benefit our church camp, hopefully I'll finish putting the blocks together today.

Grandmaquilts, where are you in Canada? I saw on another board a lady in Calgary had like 4" of snow on Thursday! She said the trees were all leafed out and they'd gotten out the grill, then snow!

Weekend plans:

Friday - recover from the sixth-grade Medieval Day at my school (I am one of the exhausted teachers of these students) and sleep, sleep, sleep!

Saturday (today) - finish last four flag blocks for swap (DONE as of 11:54 a.m.!)
Grade hundreds of math and history assignments (it's now 5:08 p.m. on Saturday and I haven't yet graded one paper...augh!!!)

Sunday - a true day of rest and worship...I love Sundays!

Monday - Continue grading hundreds of math and history assignments
Finish last two May Sunbonnet Susie birthday blocks

Plans for the immediate future: Get better. I called my mom yesterday and she asked how I was feeling, since I left Minnesota not feelin' so great. I ended up in urgent care yesterday with my boyfriend talking for me, because I have a sinus infection and two ear infections! But, I'm on some really awesome antiboitics now, and the boyfriend is taking good care of me. :)

Earlier, we went to Saturday market and looked at the fruit/veggies and yarn/fabric. Next week, I'll probably buy some, but this week, my best friend was chomping at the bit to go to the airport, even though we told him he needed about fifteen minutes to check in, he wanted an hour and a half! I told him "This is EUGENE, NOT Minneapolis!" But he wouldnt listen. :)

Tomorrow, I have some cleaning to do, and then I'll search around for fabric and yarn shops in the area. Monday, we're going to the library. :)

Keep DD#2's house sterile clean in case someone wants to look at it. (It went on the market Tuesday.)
Answer questions from workers at our house. (Mrs. Mary - Where do you want the towel bars?)
Rip CD music to laptop for Road trip to Oklahoma. More space in RV without boombox & CDs.

Well, it's Sunday of this week end. Haven't got one project finished that we planned to work on. Too many people stopped by unannounced...it rained several times...hubby had to go help a buddy...the rototiller blew up...the push mower still hasn't been tuned up for summer...the riding mower has the cart on it and it's full of dirt, so couldn't use that...SIGH....makes me wanna scream...so we went out to dinner with in-laws, took a long drive on lots of back roads to just "look".
DIL is expecting our third grandchild any time...so, other than going out to dinner, have been staying home near the phone. If the baby doesn't come this week-end, she will be induced on Tuesday. I feel so bad that she has to wait that long...she's been having contractions for 9 days now.
Tomorrow...I'm saying the heck with the yard work. I'm just gonna enjoy the day.

We never made it to Meeting. DH decided on the spur of the moment to go see his brother about 70 miles west. We talked DD#2 into going with us. So we had a little road trip yesterday.
