Sandwiches, snacks, and whatever looks good at TJ's.
We will be spending Saturday and Sunday in Blaine(knock knock Ann and Diana) at a baseball tournament. (and yes, for those that know, the wild child is playing summer ball.)
The boys also have Tuesday off, snow day freebie..So they tacked it on to the 3 day weekend, so we(not Daddy) get 4 days off.
So I guess on Monday and Tuesday, I could come up with something extra good. I'll have to think about that.

The kids are coming over with super jumbo crabs tomorrow, so I'll make some side dishes and a dessert. It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon. I'm not sure what dessert to make, maybe a Smith Island 10 layer cake (?!) or a sugar free cherry crisp.

I'm going to try and get a few flats of strawberries so I can make jam. I'll be away for the "usual" strawberry week, or I'd pick my own.

Terri, I obviously need to upgrade my sandwich inventory! I only wish we had a TJ's close by, but I manage to ''make do''. Fortunately, I stocked up on rice the last time I was there, and managed to forego (at least for a little while) the latest rice prices.

Barb, that sounds divine. What's a Smith Island 10 layer cake? I'd really like to see a picture of that; would you feel like sharing a recipe? The strawberries around here aren't looking that good yet; I may have to think about a U-pick place. I haven't done that in years. The trick will be to see if I'm still limber enough to bend over!

We'll be home and have special plans. Weather is supposed to be great, so I'm hoping to work out in the yard and grill out a lot. Also want to go pick strawberries. (And the PBJ thread reminded me that I have cherry freezer jam - in my freezer.)

Make that NO special plans!

There were articles and recipes about the Smith Island cake in the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post about a month ago. It's the official dessert of Maryland, now!

I always wondered how they made 10 layers, now I know.

I don't post here very often - because I'm usually working too much or traveling and that cuts into my cooking time so I don't end up doing anything fun or interesting. But I have a FIVE DAY weekend - starting NOW. We're going to our lake place and I can't wait. I've just been deciding what new things to try. DH had a grilled Beer Can Chicken at some friend's place a few weeks ago and liked it so much HE got the recipe. So I'm trying that. Also found a new grilled pork tenderloin & pineapple kabob recipe that I think I might try with some basmati rice and I haven't figured out what else yet - maybe some oven roasted asparagus. And I have a Cavatappi Pasta Salad with Walnut-Sage Pesto recipe - sounds weird from the name - plus it has butternut squash in it - but the ingredients actually sound good. And I have a new blueberry cobbler recipe that I might try. Yippee - I can't wait!!

So far Strawberry Spinache Salad,baked Clams,NY Deli Potato Salad and German potato Salad....as the weekend progress's so does the menu usually!

Claire, TJ's is just over an hour from me. But we'll be going past it this weekend once, twice, no 4 times. LOL

And next week was my usual Friday to go up. So I can forgo that and get the trip done this weekend.

I picked up some Deitz and Watson Turkey and London Broil yesterday at the deli.

We have to leave the house at about 6:45 am tommorrow. So I need to prepare tonight.

I'm so jealous about all of you who's strawberry seasons have already started..ours is around Father's Day..

virginia, it sounds like you made special plans to me. Working in the yard is a plan (which is mine this weekend); about whether or not it's special I guess depends on how you feel about it when it's done!

gibby, your cooking plans and lake weekend sound fun. Enjoy all that good food! I had a dream yesterday morning we bought a lake place (without a boat), and it was across the street from the lake. I remember thinking I liked the view until a car drove past to obscure it for me. I guess that tells me if I ever get the opportunity, what NOT to do!

eileen, Yumm! I may just have to add potato salad to my menu for the weekend. It sounds delicious, especially with my ribs.

terri, I'm not finding any good strawberries yet since ours are mostly shipped in, so I'll bet it will be Father's Day for us too. Have a wonderful and tasty holiday! (I love the idea of London Broil.) My closest TJ's is in St. Louis which is a four hour drive for me. Obviously I haven't made that in an while! I'm headed to the meat market for some lean bacon, then off to find my ribs...

Bacon and Ribs, I'm coming to your house! The London Broil is deli meat..It's so juicy and yummy!

To use up some of my many lemons, I just put a Gluten Free Lemon Blackberry(supposed to be Blueberry~but I had a couple handfuls of *fresh* Blackberries) Coffee Cake in the oven.

I also found a recipe to use up bananas and lemons for a Gluten Free Lemon Banana Bread.

So we will have some yummy treats to take on the road with us. There is also a cookie jar full of my version of Sol's Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I'm trying to decide if I need to make me a loaf of bread or not too, or will just eat meat, cheese and lettuce rolls.

I got to play with my breadmaker and make Swedish rye bread. It's my first rye bread. I like it but I subbed ground fennel for some of the fennel seeds (less) and it's a little overpowering.

I also made chopped salad which I love--radishes, green pepper, romano tomato and celery this time--with a mint, parsley, chives, balsamic, and evoo dressing. Yummo!

This morning it was lemon-olive oil muffins. Very good! You can't taste the olive oil. It was a Cooking Light recipe. Very nice for brunch or with cream of broccoli or some other green soup. The lemon glaze is what made them good.

The rest of my plans involve cleaning out stuff from the fridge, which is my usual weekend routine. Stir fry, spaghetti with anchovy sauce that I'm making from the tapenade recipe of AnnT's that I tried. I keep trying to like anchovies but I just don't like them! And I like most other fish, so I can't figure it out. Maybe chili or enchiladas. Lots of salad to use up this head of romaine lettuce that's languishing.

Everything sounds delicious! Terri, I wish I was more inspired to make things like coffeecake. I did put some strawberries to good use with a pound cake I picked up at the grocery.

lpinkmountain, your lemon olive oil muffins seem like they'd be good; I've found many Cooking Light recipes to be worth repeating.

I spent a good part of my day yesterday prepping things I'd shopped for. Today we're trying Oprah's favorite turkey burgers as I was intrigued as to what would make her rave so much. Tomorrow is the day to hang out with the ribs, and I made some potato salad yesterday by baking the potatoes and roasting some onions. My fridge is stuffed and I think I'm done! I'm off to my garden...
