I always take something to do while I wait. I have books, cross-stitch or embroidery, letters to catch up on, meetings to plan, etc. I'd be tempted to take the trays & a dropcloth for under them. Just explain that they MUST be planted NOW. LOL How long is he staying? Maybe he can get a room with a good sun exposure for them (& plants clean the air).

Can you take them and work on it in the parking lot? Find a shade tree to park under? Let them know where you are in case they need you.

Try getting any gardening in with this. I think I'll have to scale back for the next few years! LOL!

We aren't sure how long he will be in the hospital. They are performing an arterial bypass in his arm. The artery was damaged with a large clot causing significant blockage of blood flow.

This surgery is GOOD NEWS. This is all follow-up from his accident last July. The vascular surgeon told us that this was not corrected last year because they never thought he would be performing normal activities. They thought he would be in a wheelchair/walker for the remainder of his life. So, with him back living a normal active life, the artery and clot are causing pain in his arm.

Large hospital in the city. They have several atriums and courtyards. The problem would be what to do with the plants after potting. I'll take my laptop, some books, gardening magazines, etc.

DAVE - You just don't know yet how much you may scale back. Then, there's the muddy little Katie Rose you'll be dealing with. After they "helped" me in the garden, I would strip my 2 down to their underwear and hose them off before letting them in the house!

I did the same thing when my kids were small. They had to undress & hose down before coming inside after playing in the sandbox or it was like having the beach in my kitchen. That was dry weather. When it rained, it was a mud pit. They make much bigger messes now. LOL

LOL on the kids I can relate too..Amelia I wil put your son in my prayers for a speedy recovery...It sounds like he is doing wonderful after his accident...That is so amazing what the human body can go thru and recover..Simply amazing...

I will be praying for your son as well. They have wonderful surgeons there. Is he going to Our Lady of the Lake? I am so happy he is doing so well after all he has been though. Dave you just need a papoose and strap her on your back, lol. By next year she will be able to play out there in the mud while you garden and the following year she will be pulling up the plants as you plant them like they are weeds, lol. One of my favorite gardening memories of my oldest son. Never let them help you weed then plant a row of seedlings there. They become new weeds to pull out in their little minds, lol. I hope to get some work done in garden tomorrow too. Good for taking your mind off things.
