Window treatments that read soft and inviting for dining room?

Realized I have a fear of window treatments (excuse the paper shades)! We're in a new home and I just had these 15 year old chairs recovered, had DR repainted in blue and brown (furniture is ivory). Rug is going in this week (soft pale blues, ivory and tan and browns). I don't want anything too heavy on the windows, and am looking for something that will soften the heavy furniture - have no idea what style might complement the room - does anyone have any ideas? The windows are set low, so I would like something to hang below the crown moulding. Colorwise I was thinking soft and light (ivory, champagne gold, whites - nothing too dark... Would appreciate any input ~

I would say traditional pinch pleated drapery or goblet pleated drapery in a pale blue that went with the wall color would be nice.

Pinch-pleated sheers underneath optional.

How about something like this, with sheers underneath?

These are a lovely Italian silk, and are very reasonable at only $89 per panel.

Roman shades would be a nice way to bring in some pattern and color if you were wanting that, or they could be neutral. A woven wood shade would also work well, and would seem to fit with the more casual, more modern feel of the furniture we can see. Plantation shutters would be another consideration, since you already have so much lovely woodworking detail in the room.

That's a lovely room. I like your wall color. What color is it? Are you putting a rug in there? I think those drapes would look nice, but if you're planning on getting a rug, I'd probably get that first so they didn't clash. Since your light fixture has black metal, I'd probably go with a black metal rod.

Aaah, lovely. The shades are just perfect. I have always loved your table with that loveseat. I think that would be where I would have my tea with the paper every morning. Might even skip the paper and simply sit back and enjoy the space!

Read through all the posts and not wild about the size of the rug you bought. I liked the first one suggested with the blues, look for something similar. Here is my possibly radical suggestion. That corner unit draws your eye away from everything. Consider taking the door off, use spackle and touch up paint to hide the hinge holes. Then either DIY or hire someone to come in and cut off that curved top. It would be awesome if that curved top was act nailed on and easier to remove. then touch up paint anything that needs it. If you must need a door, take it to see if you can get the panes removed and a whole piece of glass replaced. And lastly, when you decided on the rug and curtains, paint the inside of the corner unit walls one of the accent color. or the same as the chest. Leave the outside of it the current color. I think the changes to that built in corner unit could go a long way with changing the look in the room. And for sure a different light fixture!

Thank you for the comments - Nanny2A I love the color of these drapes (palimpsest I am worried about trying to get close to the wall color but "missing" and having it look off - that was my original idea but now I am fearful.. Nanny2A - would you be kind enough to let me know where I can find these? Do you think ivory or white sheers would be best (all of the moulding is white, furniture is ivory/ off white). Room is north facing - doesnt get a lot of light-

I also noticed they have a light blue in the same panel if you wanted to check out Pal's idea. You can order swatches for 99 cents! I've had this site bookmarked for a long time. They are very inexpensive for silk drapes. If you order, please come back and let us know how the quality is.

I've been lusting for silk drapes for our living room for forever, it seems, and found these on sale now. I just don't know whether silk might be too formal for our decor, but it's something I've always wanted and love to see in other people's homes. I think your dining room has the type of feel where silk or velvet panels would enhance all the work that has already been done.

I could make them myself, but at these prices what I could order and sew myself couldn't compete. I just priced out what it would cost me to order the silk fabric and lining fabric to make them myself and these prices were within dollars of my actual cost - so I'm sorely tempted to let someone else do the work and treat myself for Mother's Day!

I've never owned any "store-bought" curtains before, and I have no idea whether this company is any good, but it seems worth it to give it a try. The length I need would be $10 more per panel, but that's still a great price.

Thank you all so much for the input! I am going to order some swatches right away in a few colors! I also see there is a link on the site to their outlet store as well - still have several windows to do and some sheers to purchase. WIll check out the LNT also online - the one near me went out of business unfortunately ~

Very pretty room! I love the furniture, and that upholstery fabric is wonderful. I think pinch pleats or simple silk panels would be lovely!
