how can I make this room look more vibrant/decorated?
Comments (2)Do you own this or is it a rental? If you're renting, let people know so that they don't run off and start making suggestions you can't act on. First, give yourself a break. Moving is hard, and you can take a while to get things into shape. It looks like you have a sofa, the shelf, and a coffee table, and whatever is under the TV (which doesn't look very well made). Is that the sum total of your living room furniture? It seems a bit spartan, even if the room isn't very big. An upholstered chair at a right angle to the sofa would make the space seem more welcoming. A side table and table lamp (or a floor lamp) would also cozy up the space. The items on the shelf definitely seem a bit haphazard (though the Formula 409 on the bottom shelf totally makes sense if you just moved in). Decorating shelves is not my forte, but I strongly endorse putting at least some books on your bookshelf), and paring down the rest of the items seems like a necessary first step. Definitely look for a nicer console or media unit for your TV. I know I just threw out a bunch of suggestions that involve buying stuff. If you are rolling your eyes and asking, "Does she think I'm made of money?", there's always Freecycle, Craigslist, Salvation Army, and Goodwill....See MoreHow can I make my current wood floor work with this dining room table?
Comments (6)I think a rug would make it work fine. But I'm wondering if you've seen the table and been able to sit at it? It looks like there is not much room for people's legs; I think it would be very uncomfortable to not be able to straighten out your legs or be able to cross your ankles, etc. Perhaps there is more room than the picture shows?...See MoreHow can I make this bathroom more inviting?
Comments (17)@NorwoodArchitects makes a great point about lighting, and the actual bulbs, etc. Also, what type of light fixtures do you have? Cannot see them in pics and that is a big part of room design, a major element. I also agree with Karen Mikolainis, above. Bringing in color in towels and accessories is a great way to do it, and a small plant on vanity, maybe a succulent plant, could lend a nice organic feel. You could also go the ‘spa’ route with plush white towels, and just have your color in art, for example. Many ways you can go. I don’t know if these are your style, but I think they are fun - soap dispensers....See MoreHow to make an awkward exterior more inviting on a tight budget?
Comments (7)I think it is a cute little house but you need to play to its strengths. The corner windows are a strong mid century design detail which someone tried to colonialize with shutters. Pull off the shutters, replace the front door when you can with a retro style door with a great strong color (turquoise, orange, purple). I would also paint the siding in the whole area by the front door wrapping around under the corner window white (I would love to replace just that siding with board and batten or V groove but paint is cheaper) Otherwise you just need to invest in landscaping- not a row of bushes pressed up against the house......See MoreKate
