How about creating a long shelf over the doorways -- like my DH built for my kitchen? Perhaps another one over the kitchen window? THEN lean the Family sign up there?

As for the long wall -- could you take a full (or close to full! LOL!) photo of the wall itself? Perhaps create a family photo gallery on the wall around a saying? (various sizes of black-and-white photos, white mats and black or dark brown frames and some wall ledges)

I'll take a new pic when I can - but here is the long wall (in parts) - about 16 ft in the kitchen broken up by those 4 doors - would you just put the shelf over those 16 ft? Run all the way to corner by DR and mudroom door? Or maybe just over foyer doorway, pantry and basement doors shown in this photo?

Here's the FR end (about 21 ft) of the same wall - we do have sleeper sofa and icebox that are staying, I want to do large canvas or family photos over the couch but could start Wall Words somewhere above the icebox and going into kitchen over all the doors?

Oops - looks like Photobucket deleted a bunch of photos, I can't even find one with my year-old furniture in it! But they have this old one.

Oops - now I don't have that - I used to have 12 pages, then I had 6, now I've only got 3 pages - I'd better stop before they all disappear!

I think Photobucket must have changed the number of pics per page because yesterday I had 13 pages of pictures and today I have 7 pages of pictures. What happened?

Are you going to stain or paint your doors? I know you're trying to make the room feel homey while you're finishing things, but I think I'd wait until you get the trim up, finished and the walls painted.

I like teacups idea of doing a shelf across your doors. But again I would wait and see how it all looks finished. I think the sayings are a great idea, and doing something across the top near the ceiling either using a stencil or wall words is a different look than the wording plaque in the dining area, so I think it's ok to use both. You have a large area, so you have lots of space to spread them out across.

I know it's hard to live in a construction zone - I remember how frustrated I got when we redid our kitchen and ripped out soffits and a dead wall between our eating area and kitchen. But, if you make it look too nice, you'll just delay finishing it because it won't look so bad! Once your trim is up and you pick a paint color (I guess I'm assuming your going to paint something other than the white, so if I'm wrong, please excuse my comments!)the area will look so much different. Then do some wall words, and accessories. You might change your mind and not like what you pick out now when it's all done.

Sorry - I realized 2 of those pics are exactly the same as I originally posted. I don't have any better ones. But go to Conversations - I've got bigger problem than decorating! I've got to CLEAN and find some place to put wood (tools are going back in basement/garage) - the SILs are coming - tomorrow!!!

Candice Olson just had a show on yesterday or the day before where she stenciled sayings over an entire blank wall. The letters were in gold, silver and a copper color paint, I think. They were all the owner's favorite sayings. I believe the room was her office.
