One year and counting (lots of before and after pics)

Hi everyone!

Well, our renovate-sary is fast approaching, and in a quick walk down memory lane to reminisce about all the things we've put our house through in the past year, I thought it would be fun to share some pictures with all of you.

Keep in mind that in my head, there is no such thing as a REAL "after" picture, since I'm constantly moving things around and changing things up. And as always, your suggestions and advice are always welcome!

When we first bought our house (a 1930's Dutch colonial), the rooms on the main floor were very small and choppy.

We tore down a bunch of walls, ripped out some kitchen cabinets, did a TON of painting, and were left with this:

And that concludes the tour (for now). You'll notice that I didn't show you the kitchen (which hasn't had enough work done yet to merit pictures). There is also a 3rd bedroom that belongs to my 11 year old daughter, and well, you know.

I hope you enjoyed my home! We are looking forward to everything year 2 has in store for us!

Lovely work!! I need to do a renoversary, too, although mine did not turn out as dramatically beautiful as yours!

Jen, full sun is a very doable thing with many orchids. Here's a list for you to consider, to attach them on tree, use a piece (4x4 inches or therabouts) of cocofiber tween the orchid and the tree, use plastic tie wraps (H.Depot electrical dept)to secure orchid to tree, you may need to use more than 1 tiedown depending on the thickness of the trunk you're attaching to. It is important that plant be secure and immobile when tied down to the trunk, new growth has to point upwards for all plants except phalenopsis, they grow hanging down. Google these plants and see what you like and I believe you have some orchid nurseries in sarasota. If you have a hard time tracking any of the plants on the list, let me know. Plants that can be grown in full sun: Encyclia tampensis - florida native, blooms in June Schomgburkia- any variety Laelia anceps - summer-fall bloomer brassavola - any variety (nodosa, cucullata, perrinii, dygbiana, mostly summer bloomers, nodosa is expecially fragrant, after dark). Epidendrum ciliare cattleytonia (CTNA)hybrids - small red/yellow flowers. If you have some partly shaded spots, then, you can use any cattleya hybrid or dendrobium hybrid or oncidium (dancing lady). and lastly if you a VERY shaded spot, you can put some phalenopsis in, for these use extra(two layers with roots sandwiched tween them) cocofiber as they will need more moisture than the other plants and preferably within reach of the sprinklers

Hey Maow! Look what you found, eh? Lol First off, I just have to say again that I think your NOID is beautiful! I really hope mine will turn into that!!! I just took an update pic of Knockout and the NOID as it looks now...still small leaves but I attribute it to overwintering a division in a pot in this climate. I'm undecided where to plant it but I better come up with an answer soon. It will grow much better in the ground. Earlier I posted a thread where I thought I might have id'd the NOID as being Knockout. Ken thought it was close enough that it may be a Knockout. I hope it flowers so we can narrow it down some more. For now I have pics filed under both NOID and Knockout albums. See what you think, Maow. We could always revisit it in the fall if we can't get any closer I.D. now?

Hi again, Thanks so much for the measurements! I think we can work something like that in our smaller bedroom and still have enough floor for his bed.... I will have to measure tomorrow when I don't risk making noise near the bedrooms (our sons sleep with their door open). He still wants to sleep with his brother, but they have made a few comments about having their own rooms soon. We can relocate the computer and set up the room as originally intended for him. Zecchini, I love your kitchen renovation so much from the color of the cabinets, to the hardware, to those big beautiful floor tiles on the diagonal, to that gorgeous backsplash, to those counters are stunning and that little doggie really enhances the pictures. Thanks for sharing some information about the kitchen to give me ideas.

Thank you everyone! Yes, we are expert painters now, well, I should say I am at least ;)

And thanks for the compliments on the turquoise door! Everyone thought I was crazy for doing it (I'm pretty sure my husband still thinks I have a few screws loose), but I absolutely love it! (The paint is Behr's "Surfer" in high gloss in case anyone was wondering).
