New here, new pool . . .

We live in Burbank, Ca. Just had our new pool/spa dug yesterday , steel in today. I am now second guessing myself about the decking. We want a more contemporary look- were thinking about going Midnight Blue pebbletec with lighter coping and then blue pennyslyvania bluestone for decking . Does anyone have pics of this?? I know it will get really hot, but I think most stones would here. Thanks for any input

These deeper blue finishes are really starting to appeal to me! What style is your pool and in what part of the country do you live? So glad you revived a specific request for more photos of this color.

i guess only time will tell. i have done everything i could except plant right at the beginning of spring. soil is slightly acidic at 6.0, moist, and appears to be well-drained in my own perc test. root flare exposed. sunny spot with some late afternoon shade. mulched nicely and ready to grow! let's hope. thanks everyone!!!

hello fellow newbie i am also new here i just discovered this forum through shear dumb luck i have never been too much of an internet person really but have been eating super spicy foods since i was a kid and am addicted to chile peppers this is my first year growing chile peppers and i have some in the ground and some in pots, most i bought as seedlings from nurseries mostly boring stuff, jalapeno anaheim cayenne banana pimento, but i also have started habaneros tobascos thai fresno a bhut jolokia and a medusa from seeds i started this year w/ 18 and now im up to 67 a little ambitious for my first year probably, but as most of u here know chiles are an obsession. to all out there that post thanks for all the tips and advice i have enjoyed reading ur posts

Central Jersey here... We installed fiberglass last year. I would never have thought of installing anything else. You'll probably pay more for a fiberglass pool, but you'll save both on maintenance and chemicals. We've got an 18' x 37' fiberglass, and for two years in a row... $49 gets us crystal-clear water all season. What little algae there was trying to cling to the fiberglass when we opened the pool a few weeks ago was absolutely gone with a quick brush-off. Try that with any other types of pools... It all depends on the quality of the installer, as you probably know. Installing a pool is a one-time thing, and you want it done right, NOT for the cheapest price. We set a budget, and overall, we came in right under the budget, and have had zero problems in the two years we've had it. Hope this helped a bit. Best of luck to you!

Tina - I am not a pool finish expert, but have talked to several PBs recently about this topic. The impression I got from most is that Pebble Tec, River Rok, Wetedge etc. are all pretty much the same in terms of product quality and longevity. Obviously bigger rocks (Pebble Tec) have a more rough surface and smaller Pebble Sheen and Fina are smoother. Some PBs have a deal with Pebble Tec to only use them, but we found that Pebble Tec was overpriced. We went with River Rok. I agree, the Beadcrete looks great, but very expensive. Also remember to read the fine print on the warranty. Most PBs told us that yes, they have a 10 year warranty, but will likely find a way to get out of it (daily pool chemistry readings required, etc). However, most did say that the aggregate finishes have lasted a long time. I read on here somewhere that the blue color in some of the plasters of aggregate finishes fades over time, but have not confirmed that. Hope that helps a little. DocZ

Hi njfolks
We are in Burbank, CA. Our new freeform pool and spa has been dug, steel put in , and plumbing within three days, so I really need to make a decision on the rest. We are looking at Midnight Blue Pebble sheen. Now possibly Black Onyx as I want to get the deepest color possible while still being blue. The hardest decision we are having to make is pool decking. I really want a comtemporary look, but am having trouble finding pictures.

Update
Five days after we dug the pool, the gunite is finished! I can actually see what the pool will look like. So exciting. I think we have decided on Silver Travertine for decking. Has anyone seen this around a pool before?
