Thank you, lindybarts, for thinking about my room further. We are more traditional than contemporary, and I tend toward oriental rugs, simply because they tend to clean up well (hairball removal factor is excellent!), but the rug certainly can be just about anything. We used to have a rug, called Ariana, in green, that we ended up selling to a friend because it didn't work in our old house. Now I'm thinking it might work with what we have going on?? It can be seen at the link below, although the photo is quite dark - IRL, it's quite a pleasing, darker sagey shade of green although it might be too much green with green walls? Parma, thanks for the additional thoughts. I had heard before that greens go better with stained wood than gold, so I guess I thought that was where you were coming from. But I agree with you nonetheless, green will look better with what we have going on. I will definitely try the Svelte Sage. I've seen it on the chip and have liked it, but haven't seen it in a room before - will look up some photos and check it out. Thanks again to you both!! DD has suggested that I keep the walls and trim of the closet white but do the shelves, the wood shelf supports, and drawers in the same pale green as the walls in the vanity area. We have a very good painter who caulks and seals all the little gaps and spaces and paints the shelves with some special finish that makes them look like cabinetry. (He painted the built in bookshelves the carpenter did in another bedroom and they look beautiful.) The reasoning for DD was that she thinks I'm reacting to looking in the vanity mirror and seeing the reflection of white drawers and shelves directly behind me in the closet through the doorway. She feels that if I saw green drawers and shelves that I would have the more coordinated effect that I'm trying to achieve but still maintain the light bright look that a closet should have. Of course, she knows how nuts I get about things sometimes and she's probably thinking that it doesn't really matter at all and I'll get used to the white once the closet is full. Anyway, what do you think?

Ah. My response has been eaten. I like the Grant Beige because of the green undertone. I will probably go with a neutral sofa, and three chairs two of them matching. The rug will be large and probably have a geometric pattern. I'm a quilter, and I really love strong patterns. I was an archivist, and DH is a programmer with major railroads so we really love old photos, rail and city maps. I also love old advertisements. We will also frame a couple of paintings DD made because I really love them. Right now all of my books are in the family room. We discussed a tall bookcase next to the FP in the past thread, but with all of our projects (we have been DIYing the whole house remodel since July) the bookcase will have to wait. I would love to put a rolling ladder on it when we get there. We're very laid back, t shirt and jeans type of people. I do like to keep a nice, comfortable house though. We also have a holiday Lego village I will have to find a place for. I suppose we're a bit eclectic. The interior of our new front door and sidelight will be he same color as the exterior, it's similar to BM Country Redwood. I can paint it if you feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb. The door and the sidelight will also be 2/3 clear glass so not too much red.

So I am going. to read through all of these suggestions afain! MIL is coming back in town so we want to just order something for the dining table so its already done and she doesnt try to talk my husband out of it (he is a pushover, lol) I actually saw some chairs at tuesday morning as a for now fix, do you a fhink the actual table is that bad,? because I guess we are just trying to find the right thing and dont want tocwaste tons of $$. do yall know if paint is expensive? have any of you done it by yourself.? I saw an article about how to save on smaller stuff like rugs and coffee tables I am going to look into! Dining table is a biggie. But I def want to keep the room so that it could match any paint color (like a white maybe, or grey) a coffee table and area rug. so whatever we bring in will work. i am going to re-look into ikea and post some pics too. I actually found a lot on pinterest too!
