Maybe somebody can photo-up some colors for you; but I would not be inclined to put yellow with your wood. I think a green with gray/blue undertone might be nice.
I'm not liking the orange brick with your wood either. Can you consider changing it or painting it?
Have you tried an L-shape with the sofa's? Put the large sofa back against the wall and pull the love seat up facing the fireplace. They can share one of the tables or put the table on the other side of the love seat. I'm just guessing the room is wide enough that you can still walk around furniture and you could create another venue behind the love seat with a sofa table. The window will still be exposed and visible from the rest of the room,
I wouldn't leave the entertainment center white after you've painted the walls.
If someone can give you some photo-color options here too, it would be helpful for you.

We have tried putting the furniture in an "L", exactly as you described, with a sofa table behind, but it really cuts the room in half - it feels more closed in.

You make a good point about the yellow and wood. I hadn't thought of that.

We're definitely interested in doing something different with the fireplace, maybe later this year. The brick is outdated and I think it's actually fake brick, not even the real thing. IRL, it's more pink/red than orange.

The entertainment center is the same color as the walls, so I was thinking to paint it, too, along with the walls, so it blends in a bit.

I'd vote for green and try to work on lighting so it isn't as dark.

Holy Millwork, Batman! I definitely like what you've got going on here... and this is from a person who normally does not like stained trim. However, yours is a nice shade and with the gorgeous ceiling makes for a very nice start to this room. You definitely need some color on the walls and some artwork and window treatments and perhaps a palm behind the loveseat to anchor it?

My first thought for color was a grey-green... BUT... I would suggest you find some window treatments that you love in there first and then pull a color from those?

Thanks, Lis and parma. I don't normally like stained trim either, and would love to paint it all white. We may end up doing that, but right now, the intention (i.e. easy way out!) is to leave it stained.

I would definitely leave most of it stained because of your ceilings. I do think you could put paint the fireplace mantle without compromising the rest of the house, which looks like it has the stained trim as well. I think your ceiling is beautiful, the trim works well with it. You can do something different with the fireplace and have it blend.

The floral on your pillows is very pretty. I would pull a green from them to start.

Kimberly...haven't gotten to adding "stuff" to your room but just wanted to show you what I did so far. LOVE the sages in this room. If you go with the yellow family, I would pick one that has green undertones. I did one for you called Sombrero.

Saybrook Sage is my favorite so far. Several other posters have this in their home so you can search for real pictures of it. I'm hoping it's not too dark for your space. Just did chocolate Silk panels so far but will play more later.

Lindybarts, you are the best! Even though I knew a previous poster was right about the yellow and the wood, I still really hoped Honeysuckle would somehow work. Well, you showed me the sage will be better - with the wood AND the furniture. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to play with my room. Even my husband says "thanks." I've been telling him about how nice and helpful everyone here is, and now he's experienced it firsthand. Thanks again!

No problemo! The sage colors really work well with all your other decor. My new favorite is Sherwin Williams Svelte Sage. I don't have that on my color wheel but if you have a store nearby, it's worth grabbing a chip.

I was searching for some rugs last night but haven't found one that looks good in the room yet. Do you like more traditional looking rugs or contemporary?

I can second lindybarts on the Svelte Sage. Just had my hall bath done in it and it's a very nice color.

When I posted before about liking the green best for your room it was because of your furniture and carpeting. I am a gold person myself and like it against wood. That being said, I always pick upholstery colors that will look good with it. Rust, brown, blue, green....about the only color that gets washed out by gold IMO is a lighter neutral like you have with your seating and flooring.

I wouldn't think of painting your wood. It's lovely and with the green paint everything will look great!

Thank you, lindybarts, for thinking about my room further. We are more traditional than contemporary, and I tend toward oriental rugs, simply because they tend to clean up well (hairball removal factor is excellent!), but the rug certainly can be just about anything.

We used to have a rug, called Ariana, in green, that we ended up selling to a friend because it didn't work in our old house. Now I'm thinking it might work with what we have going on?? It can be seen at the link below, although the photo is quite dark - IRL, it's quite a pleasing, darker sagey shade of green although it might be too much green with green walls?

Parma, thanks for the additional thoughts. I had heard before that greens go better with stained wood than gold, so I guess I thought that was where you were coming from. But I agree with you nonetheless, green will look better with what we have going on.

I will definitely try the Svelte Sage. I've seen it on the chip and have liked it, but haven't seen it in a room before - will look up some photos and check it out.

Whichever green you go with, make sure you do a sample board first. Especially since you have low lighting in a woodsy setting. Colors look so different in each home. Good Luck!

I like the first rug better than the Ariana, I think, even though I love the green ariana rug. I don't think it works very well with the color of the furniture.

Kimberley I'm one of the few who think a soft yellow would look wonderful, especially in a room without much sun. If Lindy could show your room in a dusty yellow with brown drapes and a rug with reds and golds in it, it would sing. A few ginger jar lamps in a nutmeg color. My den is being painted now in light pale yellow for the same reason. It's on the north side and I desire it to look sunny so we're using BM straw on the walls. The woodwork will be a shade darker in a tan tone. We have dark beams on the celing and have medium tone floors. It's going to look great. I painted it a darker gold four years ago but wished I had gone lighter so this time will be perfect. Go for what you like. Your sofas are so neutral you could do almost any color but you must love it. I really love yellow. And by the time all my art goes up again you don't see that much wall. Thanks for the comments! I had a consult with Ellen Kennon and she highly recommended Honeysuckle over a green. She felt green, with the low amount of natural light available, would make the room too dark and cave-like. So, I went with the Honeysuckle! We're still decorating, so as soon as the room is done I will post pics.

Thanks Squirrel and Yayagal. I'm using an older version of Photoshop. It's 5.0 and I got it at Costco for around $80 I think.
