I wouldn't run to the vet just because she threw up but I would watch and see what she does and if she continues or has any other abnormal issues. Can you call your vet and get their opinion? Is this the first time she has done this kind of thing...

Yes, it is, that I can remember. She's stopped now and I put her in her crate. Started to call the vet and just hated to sound like a Nervous Nellie!

I agree with Ruthie - I'd wait and see but if she continues - I'd be heading to the vet. They have Rx meds which can calm the vomiting.

If a dog is throwing up it is usually because they ate too much, ate something they shouldn't, or something else is wrong and it can't go down.

If it is the first two, you WANT her to throw up because you want that stuff out of there.

However, my worry (especially in a long dog) is obstruction - she swallowed something and it is stuck keeping other food and fluids from passing - or a flipped stomach.

I am a worry wart and would already have her at the vet ROFL.

If she is throwing up, it's probably not a good idea to give her anything at the moment...

I think I'd hold off on giving her anything and just watch her. Not to sound gross but what did she throw up? (you don't have to actually tell me but was wondering if she had gotten into something or if it was her normal dog food)

Is she acting like she hurts? Especially if you hold or touch her? If so, I'd call the vet and see what they say. I'm not too much of a worry-er but it's hard when they can't tell you what they are feeling. (((YaYa and Rox)))

I wouldn't give her anything without your vet's okay. Some 'people' meds can be deadly for pets--others are okay. But you don't want to make a mistake.

It certainly doesn't hurt to call the vet for their advice. You don't have to rush her right in, if they're comfortable with you watching to see what happens--and they can give you the best advice about what will help. Hope she feels better soon.

Has her belly or lower abdomen swollen to a large size right after throwing up? If so, get her to the vet quickly, as in now. This is how BeeGee's Gastric Tortion hit.

It she's just barfing, let her rest somewhere quietly. I wouldn't give her medicine without a vet's say-so. Sometimes they just need a quiet, dark place to rest.

I wouldn't hesitate to call the vet. I call my vet whenever I have a concern. They have always given me advice on what to do.

A vet is going to want to know what she threw up. Is it undigested food? A foreign object? Grass? Bile? Blood? If it's anything but blood, I'd just let her rest for a little while. In my experience, dogs throw up a lot, usually for no good reason.

What do you mean by "she overdid it"? Was she running around a lot right after eating? Did she just eat too much?

Called the vet and his assistant told me to give her some Kaeopectate or Pepto Bismol. Gave her 1/2 tsp. of Pepto and it stayed a little while.

Put her back in the crate and am watching her.

Uxorial, just figured that she overate. Everything that came up looked like partially digested dog food - no blood, etc.

Well, she threw up twice more, so we went to the dr. He doesn't usually see patients on Thursdays (a new thing) but he told me to bring her on in. He gave her a shot and told me to bring her back early in the morning for another one.

Cross yor fingers for Roxie - hope that it's just a bug.

I hope she feels better soon. Being the mom of a Dachshund, I know they don't have a stop button when it comes to eating. They will eat anything and everything non-stop. I hope that is all that is wrong. Sending good thoughts and vibes.

When you talk to the vet ask about possibly dosing her with Pepto Bismol, for future episodes. I have a much bigger [weight-wise] dog and my vet told me I could dose him with Pepto/equivalent and gave me the proper dosage amount. But a doxy being so small...not sure if you can use it or not.

DON'T give her the Pick bismoth stuff- it has aspirin. I think you can give her the other stuff- in the white rectangle bottle with the gray writing but read it first and make sure it doesn't have aspirin. A couple of years ago a vet told me one was okay to give the cats since it was aspirin free.

Oh, really? I'll ask him when we go back in tomorrow. The assistant told me I could give her Pepto Bismol but it didn't stay down long enough to do any harm, I'm sure! LOL

She seems better and keeps getting out of her crate to come to where I am. She's holding her head higher and tail is wagging more.

Our Doxies was sick this spring with diarreah, I know its not the same thing Roxie has, but she said give her childrens Pepto, and suggested the tablets cause they snarf them right up rather than wrestling with a dog and pink sticky stuff. (I of course tried liquid and then said the heck with this and bought the tablets! LOL)

Pepto Bismal is perfectly safe for dogs given in the right dosage for their weight.

Dogs are often given aspirin for minor aches and pains. It is better to use the buffered formula. Enteric coated aspirin should not be used, only because dogs don't seem to be able to digest the coating soon enough for the aspirin to be effective. Just like people dogs can have a stomach sensitivity to aspirin but there is nothing inheritently toxic to dogs.

Tylenol is far more toxic to dogs than Aspirin.

Sorry, maybe it is just cats that shouldn't have Pepto! I got a little over-zealous in my advise.

Glad things are going well. I found some carpet cleaner at Walmart that seems to work great on such spots as you are dealing with today. It is in a white spray bottle with purple writing. (not sure where it is now for the name!)

I'm sorry your sweet pup is sick YaYa. Hope it's just an upset tummy and she'll be all better pronto. Glad you took her to the Vet since she continued to vomit. Poor little darling. Let us know how she is tomorrow after your vet visit please.

I've always given my dogs a little bit of a Tums when they spit up. Our "old" Vet said it was ok. But, if Roxy was that ill, I doubt it would have stayed down either.

I hope poor Roxie is feeling better...give her a gentle hug and take good care of both of you!!
