glass shower door, tiled shower curb & water containment
Comments (4)I have a shower with no curb -- it's designed to be a roll-in. There is a vinyl sweep on the bottom of the door, and there is absolutely no problem with water. On one side of the door we have 3" tiles (the inside the shower part) and on the other 12" tiles (the rest of the bathroom floor). You don't need a chrome strip. All it will do is get grungy. As for French doors, that's fine, if you want to spend the extra money. We have one door....See MoreShowerGuard Glass on shower door?
Comments (7)I am getting Showerguard glass. I think it's a very worthwhile investment. It will add about $500 to the price of the glass (my shower is very large). The installers will be coming in about a week to measure for it. Once the order is placed, I hope to have the glass installed by early September (I will be away in late August, so the install won't be able to happen until September). Even though the glass place I am buying from is an official Shower Guard dealer, they were pushing a similar product called Hydroshield, but I didn't want that. I want the Showerguard because it is infused into the glass. The other thing is that Hydroshield only comes with a 3-year warranty, but Showerguard gives you a 10-year warranty. I prefer to buy something that is guaranteed for a long time. I can't help but think that Shower Guard is a better product than Hydroshield, or why else wouldn't Hydroshield also stand behind their product for a 10 year period? If you decide to go with a different product than Showerguard, make sure you carefully check out the warranty that is offered. And one other thing. If you decide to go with the Showerguard, it is supposed to come with a sticker on the side that is supposed to face inward. Watch when they do the install and make sure they don't put the glass in backwards! If you aren't watching what they do and they make the mistake of installing it in reverse, they could just pull the sticker off and you'd never know. After all the remodel problems I've had, I don't trust anyone to do things correctly anymore!...See MorePoll: What is one brand/product you will never buy again?
Comments (62)evans, the circuit boards are built not to last. The circuit board went out on our Magic Chef gas slide-in range 3 years after we bought it and it was going to cost $1,000 for the circuit so we opted to just put the stove on the curb for trash and buy another. We bought the new Magic Chef, but this time purchased the extended warranty which is a very minimal amount of money. Within a couple of years the board went out and they replaced it free of charge. That was 10 years ago and the stove has worked fine ever since. In case you're wondering why we purchased a second Magic Chef, the reason is the price was much cheaper than the other brands that we could find in a slide in gas range. When I buy my new range for the new house I'm going to make sure to purchase the extended warranty for that one also. It will be a Jenn Air....See MoreI'll never make THAT mistake again
Comments (40)Not hiring an interior decorator to help with the finish selections. Even if only to say "no, no, yes, no, darker, no..." How much would that be? $5k? Less? Worth it, imo. I did ok, but I was a little hesitant, and could be talked into things I didn't want. Not doing the landscaping as part of the total package. I'm now paying for "design services" and the bidding rigamarole all over again. Trying to save a little money *at the end.* I was so determined to hit the budget number that I allowed some compromises. Save money at the front, then give yourself a healthy contingency....See MoreUser
