Yes, it is my DH's room too. But he's the type that would rather everything white. He doesn't like any color. At first he really didn't like it. Now he says he doesn't care either way. I'm not a white on white person in any means :)

Going from a light color scheme to a dark was probably an adjustment for him.
I dont think your chocolate walls in the first pic, look all that dark to me. Their are varying shades of chocolate in paint color. I do see you have plenty of light in your room also from the large windows/doors? Hope you dont mind me saying this but I for one would move the dresser with the television on top away from the windows, it seems to be blocking some of the natural light .

I for one like the contrast of the darker walls with the lighter furniture. Once you get the room pulled together with the right acessories (your sconces, etc..) it will all come together. Dont give up on your color choice just because no one else likes it. Since you love it, Give it a chance and your husband may shortly come around too. Some people just dont like change no matter what, and it takes a while to get used to. I say live with it for a while, see what happen's . That's the beauty of paint.........So many colors to choose from, so many different looks can be achieved and it can always be colored over with another color when tired of or a mistake in color was made.

I like it. I think you can go even darker. With all the white furniture, you are lucky to be able to go with such a rich dark color.

I don't think the color sets off your furniture well, and it fights with the grey carpet color.

I am glad you posted pics since I had been thinking about painting my walls darker to make my antique white furniture look nicer but I am seeing I am not a dark wall color person. I think a lighter color on the wall would look nicer or a sage green in my opinion would look better. If you decide to keep the wall color, I would put a white picture or white wicker accessory behind the bed on the wall to take away some of the dark color.

michigandergardener- I don't mind at all. Constructive critisism is great. I totally agree with you on the dresser blocking the natural light. The only reason I cornered that dresser with the TV is because I did not want to place it directly next to my long dresser. I don't like the look of a wall of furniture with everything lined up. We watch TV every night before bed and it's hard to place the tv anywhere but along that wall or in the corner. Any ideas on that?

kswl: would you go with a lighter or darker color? And as for the carpeting, apparently none of my cameras are good because the carpet is in shades of brown. In natural light, without the camera flash, the darker color in the carpet is only a few shades lighter than the wall color. I love the color of the walls compared to the carpet when seen in person.

Gosh, it looks grey in the photo! But, if I understand, it is sort of an oatmeal berber with flecks of different browns/blacks/etc in it?

I must admit that when I saw the furniture I immediately thought "sage green," as Lynne suggested. You can have a nice hue of it that is the same color value as your brown, and I think it will set off your white and wood furniture very nicely. The green also lends itself to masculine (or, not overly feminine) choices for your curtains and spread, as does the chocolate colour. (That said, our bedroom is probably too feminine for a man but I didn't ask and my husband did not complain!)

Kind of funny that your DH objected to the more masculine wall color, but has been living with flowery bedding and drapery and french provincial furniture. LOL But most guys are resistant to change, it seems, and especially something like color on the walls if they are used to white on white everywhere.

I think the wall color is great. It goes with the bedding, but I would like to see a different window treatment . Perhaps just solid white pleated panels. The flowery sheers feel too lightweight with the heavy wall color.

Hmmmm... First,I love your furniture. Furniture placement is very important to a room. Especially in a bedroom. It should be a place that you look forward to retiring at the end of the day. It should be relaxing and peaceful.

I dont know what dimensions your room is. It looks like a nice sized room. You have a lot of matching furniture with drawers, along with lot's of stuff placed on top of all those furniture pieces giving it a somewhat cluttered appearance. (as most of us do in the real world). My ? is ...(Remember trying to help and saying with kindness) Do you really need all that furniture in your bedroom? If you must have a TV in your bedroom then it should be in or on a cabinet that can also house your VCR separately without stacking it on top of the TV. Try taking out a small dresser or two ,then some of the extra stuff all around your room. Look at your room as a bare space. Now remember the bed is the most important piece along with the night tables. Start with that.

I used to have a lot of unneccesary furniture and clutter in our bedroom. I parred down to the bare essentials and now our bedroom is a much more relaxing place to retire at the end of the day. Good luck , Hope this help's.

Can you have your t.v. up on the wall so you can push it back & forth out of the way?

I love the wall color, but not crazy about ALL OF THE WHITE..as in curtains and bedding. I love your furniture, though and think the contrast is great!

Also, the "girl with duck" painting, the bears, and the white lamp, sing "little girls room" to me. In fact, your room reminds me of my bedroom, growing up. :) Only, I had yellow flowered wallpaper with my white French Provincial and gold furniture. I bet your DH and friends would love the room if you bought a different comforter and curtains to warm the room up a bit more.

BTW - I think the paint matches well with the carpeting.

I would suggest adding a couple of solid color pillows to the bed, pillows in exactly the wall color. Maybe large pillow shams? This will help "spread the tone" a bit.

But wow, the TV looks pretty bad. Does it have to be in the room? How much TV do you watch in there?

I like the color, and I LOVE your headboard. I agree that the floraly stuff is too lightweight, you definitely need to add some things that are a bit more masculine.

I'd also consider changing out the hardware on the furniture. That would help de-feminize and de-french it a lot.

To me, a chocolate brown is a clean, crisp look and dictates more geometric than floral. Maybe that would help DH overcome his color phobia...if you went with white drapes, bedding, etc.

I love your headboard and maybe changing the curtains would help in making the wall color better. I still feel a sage green or even a dark cream would make the room more to my liking but that is just me. I have a friend looking for a white set. Who makes your stunning headboard?

My bedroom is chocolate brown. Think Hershey's bar! I'll try to figure out how to post a picture, but until then....

It's tiny with 2 knee-walls. Chocolate brown should make it seem small and closed in, but it doesn't. Strange, but I wanted the walls to match the furniture, and it does. Everything seems to blend. The bureaus are from DH's grandparents and are about 85 years old. The bedding is chocolate, too! The ceiling is cream, and I have stencilled bricks (lighter brown) on the bump-out for the chimney. The house and room are tiny, the house being 140 years old! I have a rocking chair and cornice covered in a lovely sage embroidered microsuede. That's the only color other than brown.

It sounds strange, but people are really taken back at how simple and lovely it looks. Warm in the winter and cool in the summers.

Now, can someone help me post some pix?

I love the colour! YOur hubby may like it better if the bedsread and window treatments were a stronger colour. I think something deeper with the brown in it or something the same tone would warm it all up and tie it together. The bed and window coverings seem to float in the room now and are on the feminine side.
Trust your gut feelings. The colour really is nice!

Yep, I have to agree with Newhomebuilder. You have a somewhat sophisticated wall color, with decidedly feminine furnishings. Changing the drapes to something more tailored as Les suggested would help. You could consider removing the print pillows on the bed and replacing with some more tailored in complimentary colors from your wall and the bedding. I don't know if you have room for it, but a wood-stained armoire for the TV and other items that need to be stored would also help the look of the room.
