Does this look like a good deal CL??

I saw this on craigslist this morning and was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on whether it would suit my needs?

When you enter my kitchen from the garage, I have a half empty wall that butts up to double patio doors. On this wall is our breaker box, which right now has a large silver mirror hung over it. I was thinking of getting a buffet for under the mirror, to store some additional kitchen things in and to make it look like a second entry way. In that space I can handle anything around 45-50 inches long, and up to 30 inches depth.

Saw this hutch/china cabinet on craigslist this morning...i'd probably paint it black to match in my kitchen...i hope it's a two piece, then i'd just not use the top.

all the buffets are outrageous and rarely posted.

They only want 25 bucks for it!

Here, this might help. It sure looks like it's worth $25. I'd go look at it for sure, but remember to bring your tape measure.

Wow, this is great! Thank you everyone for responding. Fori, no blue sheep, but they do have a decided pink cast right after they're sheared. :^) My DH didn't trust my guesstimate, (I MOL just walked it heel to toe yesterday, and multiplied by 7.5), so he did the manly thing and used a real tape measure. The total distance from the porch to the gate is a little over 40 feet. (But it really is 12 feet from the porch steps to the outside ring, so I wasn't off by much) Also, the distance from the yard gate to just inside the main driveway gate is another 65 to 70 feet. Can you stand more pictures? This was taken from the driveway, looking toward the house before we bought the place. This gives you a better idea of the birdbath in relation to the house as it was taken looking straight on from just under the cedars instead of off to one side. I know, the brickwork is terrible, it's been reset since then. Spunky_Ma, this is what the house will look like when we replace the spindly posts and rebuild the brick bases. (People who "remuddle" away nice architectural details like french doors and gable brackets and wide porch posts should be shot.) I definately like the quarter round beds better, and will reset them this weekend. Also, I took out the bird bath, leaving a straight path. I agree, it does look good. Then again, it's a 40 foot path, and this picture only shows about 1/3 of it. (I'm sorry. I should have thought about that) Still, I like the idea of a straight path better than a curvy path. Most of the ones I've seen make me think they were put down as "busy work" for the contractor because there's no particular reason for snaking and twisting all over the yard just to get from A to B. Then again, I've not seen any with plantings mature enough to have that special "secret garden" effect, so that's probably it. Finally, I'm just going to put a link to this last one as it's big. (90KB) I've been trying to draw a bird's eye view/blueprint of just the house yard. The alleys and "front" yard are indicated, but not drawn in, likewise the garage and back yard fence. The house is surrounded by mature trees, and the east and south side are planted with different stuff that at maturity will range from 4 to 8 feet tall; enough that the place has a cozy, well nestled in look. The driveway to the garage is just two thin strips of native gravel with grass growing between them so it's not really noticeable. I forgot to mark it, but north is on the right, and, while there are lots of plantings on that side too, they can't really be seen from the front gate, so I left most of that out. The land rises 40 feet to our property line about 3/4 of the way up the hill just past the alley on the north. The hill is terraced, and there's a swale in the yard about 8 feet out from the house on that side in case it ever rains again. Here is a link that might be useful:

If you add bloodmeal, that should compensate for the nitrogen loss from the mulch breaking down. I don't remember the ratios off-hand, but if you look up "green to brown" ratios for composting, you can use that as a guide. The mulch is "brown" and the blood meal is "green." When the mulch has broken down, nitrogen taken up from the soil will be re-released into the soil. I remember an Ashdown video about layering compost and mulch each year and mentioning how using a nitrogen-rich compost or soil amendment will compensate for nitrogen loss from mulch breakdown. It would probably be great if you could find a horse ranch nearby. Mixing manure with that planting medium would probably work well. :-) ~Christopher

You might look at gateways website. If you do much graphics the graphic's card in that model is the same one I have in my laptop and quite frankly its the bottom of the barrell minimum card for Vista. A quick look at gateway.com shows their 'M Series-X' with an upgraded graphics is actually about a $100 less. But hard drive is smaller,,, I didnt really spend time compairing other features. I wish I had a better graphics card and I seldom do any graphics to speak of. Windows Vista rating experience on my laptop is 3.2 out of 5.9 the reason is that intel intergrated graphics card. It's the slowest component on the list of items that they apply the Vista user experience rating with. Below 3 is not suitable for vista.

Thanks, everyone. That's what I felt, too, but good to know the sentiment here is the same. Hopefully, the GC will agree, too, when they see it Monday. I will ask the GC to have the roofer send someone else more experienced to redo it. I don't think the dents can be fixed, so perhaps they'll have to rip it out and start over. @eventhecatisaboy - I don't know what gauge was used, or what the proper gauge is. I have a small china cabinet just a bit bigger than this one and it is all one piece. It does sound like a great deal, but I'm thinking it might not be two pieces like you hope.

Give them a quick call and ask if it's two pieces and what the measurements are. They posted a phone number. Heck you might even be able to use it even it is all one piece by making an access panel to your breaker box.

That's not laminate...definitely venere, and my guess is that the piece is a bit older than 25 - 30 years. LOL It's probably from the 1960's??

Yep noticed it wasn't real wood...and when I called it wasn't two pieces so I didn't get it...

Still holding out for a buffet I guess for that area, or a console table with storage below...I found one on overstock but my pocket book is just about empty after buying TONS of paint for the entire downstairs this weekend...

so it will have to wait until Friday! Don't you love paydays when you're remodeling???

Dana, a six drawer dresser would work too. I have one in our main entry. I found it at our local, small town, thrift store for only $16.00. It's a Drexel Heritage too.

Thank you Newhomebuilder. Too bad we don't live close. I'd go with you! I still can't believe the deal I got on it. The funny thing is My hubby called while I was in Blair and knowing me, made me promise not to buy anymore furniture. I have an obsession with used real wood furniture. I promised him that unless I saw something worth thousands of dollars and could get it for ten or so dollars that I wouldn't buy any furniture. I almost didn't ask how much it cost since it was 20% off furniture day. But I did and I had to have it. At the time, other than knowing it was very well made, I didn't realize was made by Drexel Heritage/worth thousands new. I was a bit concerned about showing it to my hubby when he got home. Luckily he loves it and said I did good. So I lived to buy more furniture. Most if having no place to go. Like the two oak pedestal tables and five pressed back oak chairs I bought a couple weeks ago. Actually the one table turned out to be free.

What a steal...I've been looking on craigslist for a bow front dresser, or something similiar to what you have...

I have checked our thrift stores and salvation army...with no avail!

Most of their stuff looks like cheap pressboard that's been left in the rain to bubble..and they still want 50-100 bucks!

They do have some new items that look like they were donated by a furniture company...maybe Ashley? But they want retail...around 400 bucks for it!

Def out of my budget...plus I LOVE refinishing things!

I'm still keeping my eyes open for something like you have.

I did like the idea of a console table there, but I wanted something with storage to put my extra paper towels etc. in ....

Our kitchen is quite weird in the layout...there's a huge blank wall when you come in through the garage...and the breaker box is on that wall, so SOMETHING had to cover that. Right now it's a huge silver framed mirror...:sigh: which means something needs to go under it..it feels lonely!

ohhh....and I just took a second look...i LOVE the decorative storage containers on yours and the collection of crosses...stunning!

Thank you Dana. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back here. The crosses took a few years to collect and then I painted them all to match. The brown and ivory boxes were on clearance at Hobby Lobby, but together they cost almost as much as the chest of drawers did. Funny, huh?

I wish you luck in finding just the right piece. I'm sure it's out there, just waiting for you to find it.
