Have you used Progresso Soup?

For some time I have used this soup as a light lunch. Recently I opened a can of their Split Pea. Had noticed that the can was smaller than previously but the big surprise was that the peas were not split! It was a can of very hard whole peas. I pureed them and tried to make the best of it. Called the company and got not much of a response. Has anyone else had this experience?

The only canned soup I buy. Love their pea soup and all the others as well. My favorite is the lentil soup .I add a bit of small shell pasta to it, very delicious.

I buy it for my husband. I don't like the taste or the noodle texture. Something just doesn't seem right. Haven't tried the split pea though.

Ken, I made dilly beans with those purple beans and you are right, they start with kind of a pretty pinkish tinge to the brine, which settles into a lovely lavender sediment. The taste is still the same, but the first time I saw that I kind of blinked. The spaghetti sauce, I think, was overcooked if it had a scorched flavor. Because meat has to be processed so long, I usually canned tomato sauce without the meat, then just browned the burger and added the sauce to it when serving. It's not as convenient and I sure could have used the freezer space the ground beef took up, but it just wasn't as good if I canned it with the meat in it. Plus, the ground beef had a soft/overcooked texture that no one liked, so I couldn't overcome all the issues. It's all canned without the meat now. Annie

Do you ever make your own? I love lentil soup, and it's so easy to make. I used to put a smoked ham hock in it, but I don't eat those things anymore. These days I just add some garlic along with the onions, carrots, and celery + herbs.

Chicken and Potato Soup...How could I have made it better?

My Mom always made my Grandmother's Brunswick Stew to welcome the start of winter: Chicken Potato Sliced Carrot Diced Celery Frozen Baby Lima Beans, thawed Canned Whole Kernel Corn, drained Diced canned tomatoes in juice Onion (I have to leave this out when I make it now) A dash of black pepper Salt to season to your preference about 1/4 - 1/2 tsp Oregano Chicken Broth Cook the chicken in broth until done, debone if not already boneless, and chop into small enough pieces to fit on your spoon. Cook carrot and celery (and onion if using) in a little water until just starting to soften, add potato (and a little more water if needed) and cook until vegetables are close to done; drain. Combine with chicken, broth, and the rest of the ingredients, cook for at least 1/2 hour to get the lima beans soft. I don't have exact measurements because it depends on whether you are cooking for 1 or a crowd. Basically, I use about 1 large potato to 2 chicken breasts and enough of the other veggies to equal about 2 cups mixed (in about equal parts) when I am making it for DH and me for dinner and plan on having the leftovers for lunch. Ann ~ i don't actually have a recipe, but here's what i do for my soup. first, boil the bird until meat is tender. cool until fat solidifies. i remove the lovely fat and divide into portions of about 2-3 tablespoons into sandwich bags. then i finely chop the meat and make that into 1--2 cup portions (give or take). these all go into the freezer to be used whenever i wish. a pack of fat and one of meat = enough for a pot of soup. the broth gets strained and concentrated a bit by boiling down. here i add one or two grated carrots and a couple of onions finely chopped (any size -- i like lots) and a good handful of very fine egg noodles. there is never enough broth to make more than one or two batches of soup, so when it is gone, i just use regular store broth. (the fat gives much flavor, of course!) for the soup. i melt the fat and add flour to make a roux -- amount of flour is variable, as chicken fat will absorb more flour than butter in a roux. when the roux is thick enough for my taste, add broth/water/noodles and cook until of medium thickness. i also add some Savory Choice Liquid chicken broth Concentrate if the flavor needs boosting. salt and pepper to taste. this gives me a fairly thick soup, and is so good and comforting. many folk would not like this method, as i do use the chicken fat. that's how i get a thick-style end product,. at my age, i just will not worry about the extra calories -- i just want my soup the way i like it! of course, any other chicken soup ingredient you like could be added, or leave out the onions if you wish, or larger noodles, i suppose. whatever you like! I'm the same as Ruthieg...We do buy it when I have coupons or it's on sale but I agree, there's something with the taste....I do, however, like the tomato and the last time I made vegetable soup, I added a can and it was delish.....
Seniorgal, I think you should keep calling or writing...Eventually, you'll get their attention. I'm a great believer in letting the companies know when a consumer is upset with their product.....

I buy their soup when it is on sale and I have coupons, also.I especially like their cream of mushroom soup and the tomato with basil.

I like the split pea with ham, the lentil, and especially the traditional clam chowder. All three are always on hand as occasional "comfort food" easy dinners.

I love their lite chicken noodle, sometimes I throw in some fresh sliced mushrooms and simmer it for a few minutes. It's a great low calorie lunch.

I don't like progresso soup. I usually buy the healthy choice or one of the others. Now I just make my own soups.

Sounds like there was a problem on the canning line. I once opened a can to find it only two-thirds full. The soup was missing the cubed potatoes listed among the ingredients. I called Progresso. They apologised and sent me coupons for several cans of free soup. (Makes me wonder how they put the soups together -- as the cans go along an assembly line?)

Used to. Haven't bought it since I found a big piece of plastic in their soup. Sounds like I'm not the only one who's had problems with them. When I contacted the company about the problem, they sent me a bunch of coupons--which, of course, I couldn't bring myself to use.

I noticed that too when I had a can about a month ago. It was like whole pea soup, lol. I won't buy it again, but I have a couple cans on hand. I think when I make some home made split pea soup, I'll throw them in there.

I have never had a problem, I like the tomatoe basil. but I usually add some garlic, the chicken noodle is not bad, again I add some fresh ground black pepper.. I watch for them to go on sale. It makes for a quick meal or lunch when hubby is out of town as he does not like soups.

I bought it once and never again. My opinion of it isn't high as you can probably guess! LOL

Here awhile back they found needles in cans of thier soup I stopped never went back.

We've eaten their soups for years without any distress. DH likes soup with a sandwich for lunch in cooler weather. We often split a can. "Progresso" is a General Mills brand.

We usually prefer the "Healthy Choice" soups (Con Agra). I wish they'd put them in an easy-open can though. (Don't you wish you had the patent on those pull-tab cans? lol)

I like their Lentil,Italian Wedding and Manhattan Clam Chowder. I don't often eat new England Clam Chowder in a can but when I do it's Snows.

Half cans? Plastic? Needles!!! Sheesh, it is kind of amazing what people have experienced with this brand of soup. I think I won't buy it anymore if there's this kind of track record.

Progresso soups are gluten free. Don't know if all are tho.

All I know is I don't like it so I won't buy it. Tried Progresso a few times and don't like it. Thin and watery and there's a strange taste to it and I can't put my finger on what's wrong with it. Thought it could be just a bad can so I tried several times but nope, not edible here when there's much better stuff available.
