NEW: Gardening&Gourmet Swap
Comments (133)Paula, Please forgive me, forgive me, forgive me for not posting my thanks sooner! I did receive your box on Friday, but I have been so busy in the garden for the last week, I don't know where the week has gone. (In fact, I don't know where the month of May has gone!) It's been almost a week since the box came, and I've been very remiss in not coming on here to let you know it got here. I loved the sun-dried tomatoes and the pine nuts, I use them in one of my favorite recipes, so thank you so much. I also received two herb plants -- a sage and an oregano -- Yum! Real plants, not seeds! The box also contained some bread dipping oil, we will have it this weekend with some crusty multi-grain bread rolls, I bet it's delish! I also received a great orange apron (which may end up being used in gardening), and finally, a great new KitchenAid handheld chopper. My old one is just about ready to give up the ghost, so it arrived just in time! Thank you so much, I loved everything! Alison...See MoreLOOKING for: Need a gourmet slow cooker recipe
Comments (22)I've posted this one many times before but it sticks in my memory because it was offered at a dinner party by a very busy lady, head of a university department, who came home after work to prepare this dish for her guests. We were all so impressed that she managed to make something tasting so good without working at it all day. She had made mimeographed copies of the recipe beforehand as she said everyone asked for it when she served this dish. This was before the days of photocopiers ! LOL. This was a simple but prize winning recipe in a cross country cooking contest sponsored by a Canadian womens' magazine in the 1960s. Tastes better if made one day ahead. 1 kilo of veal shoulder steak, cut into small bite-size pieces 2 medium onions, sliced 1 cup water 1/2 cup ketchup or tomato sauce 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 teasp salt 1/2 teasp pepper 1 1/2 cups cashews (rinse if they are salted) 2 TBS butter Worcestershire sauce 1). Grind garlic, salt and pepper together in mortar and pestle. 2). Roll veal pieces in this mixture in the mortar and then on a clean plate, being sure pieces are well coated. 3). Brown veal in butter in a saucepan. When brown, add onions, water, tomato sauce and cashews. 4). Simmer slowly until meat and nuts are both tender. About 40 minutes. It may need a bit of water added. 5). Thicken with a bit of flour and a few drops of Worcestershire sauce. 6). Best served the next day. Goes well with rice and a crisp green salad. Comments (11)a color that dark will make the room look smaller. With southern light It also may go very intense in the afternoon. If you are happy with the choice, that's all that matters. But I would paint two 24x36" poster boards with the color and out them up on the wall. Someone may come along and say you can tell from a small swatch but bigger is better I have found. If you like it with the huge swatches it should be ok. I would do the ceiling white and go with off white trim. Don't overlook the trim color in the assemblage as it will be a factor. The poster boards might seem like a nuisance but they will be less work than priming out a dark color. There is a nice green in your sample and I'm wondering if you like that idea at all. I think it would be very pretty with the copper and dark accents. But perhaps that ground has been covered previously....See MoreOBF July Gourmet/Garden Swap
