Street Smarts: Produce Wall Art
Borrow an idea from a gourmet shop and celebrate the harvest on your kitchen wall
At the Brooklyn gourmet provisions shop, Radish, there's an art board for each of the four seasons. Each board features illustrations of the fruits and vegetables in season now. The growing movement to eat local and eat in-season fruits and veggies has crossed into art in more ways than one. Here, a few favorite examples of art to inspire us to eat what's available at the farmers' market:

Here's a closer shot of the produce wall art. I love the bright pops of color against the dark background of the board.

Celebrate the gorgeous fruits and vegetables you can find at the farmers' market with this retro style print by Yee-Haw.
Summer Fruit Print
Artist Claire Nereim creates amazing prints with her whimsical drawings of fruits and vegetables. My favorite is her summer print — love the splash of summer colors for all the fruits.
You Pick 5 Single Cards by YeeHaw on Etsy
These farmer's market cards could easily be framed as wall art. The letterpress illustrations of fruit and veggies from the farmers' market would make a great series of mini prints to hang in the kitchen.
Seasonal Vegetables of California by Claire Nereim
Claire Nereim's calendar takes you through the year with seasonal vegetables from California featured on each month. What a perfect gift for any Californian at heart.
Set of 4 Seasons Tea Towels
Tea towels often have such cool designs, you could say the towel are usable art to dress up your kitchen. These four seasons tea towels are made by Brooklyn artist Claudia Peterson.

Here's another artist's take on prints featuring the fresh produce available. Each print has a different color palette that taps into the vibe of the season.
Winter Fruit Print
Claire Nereim's Winter art print is too awesome not to share, too. (Like the seasons, it's hard to pick a favorite.) This print features hand-drawn winter-harvested fruits. So many fun ones even for winter — think pomegranates, blood oranges, and grapefruits.
2012 Fruit Calendar
Artist Anna Bond created this gorgeous hand-drawn calendar that features a different fruit for every month of the year in her iconic painterly style. I love the rustic jute twine that comes with the calender for hanging it up.
Buy Local Coloring Book
What a novel idea — a coloring book that gives kids clues as to what fruits and veggies are in season and available at your farmer's market. Kids can have fun with it and color a pink eggplant. A page from this coloring book is sure to make the cut as art to hang on the refrigerator.
Tomato Poster Hurricane Irene Fundraiser
I wish I had wall space in my kitchen for this cool print of all the different greenmarket tomatoes. And the poster helps a good cause — for each poster purchased, $5 will be donated to Greenmarket's Hurricane Relief Fund. An estimated 80 percent of Greenmarket farmers have been impacted by the hurricane, with about 10 percent reporting a severe loss of their crop.
