New Color Scheme In Bedroom

Hi Everyone. I don't post often here, but I read every post. I am so inspired by everyone. I decided the other day that I needed a color change in my life. I needed to step out of my comfort zone of earth tones. I started with a new bedspread and went from there. All ideas were from here. The old windows over the bed...I still want to add something to them. I also purchased new lamps, love the clear sleek look. I would love to paint the night stands, but that would be grounds for divorce I am afraid LOL !! So, I am thinking of covering them with white fabric? Your thoughts, I had a small tablecloth that I used on one to see what it would look like. On the wall grouping of boxes, they were salvaged from Great Grandpa's shed. I went around the house to see what I could paint aqua to add to the room. I have never painted anything then distressed it. I started with the "A" on the old window. I could not beleive how easy it was....just paint aqua then I skimmed it with dark walnut stain and wiped off what I didn't want. I was hooked, I scoured the house looking for things to paint. I painted the "A", the star, the little chair, the little watering can. Now I want to find an old chair to paint and put under the birdcage hanging from the ceiling. I am thinking about white curtains? I am not much for curtains, but feel it may soften the look of the room. Please critique as I am new to this color scheme. I have included a couple of before pictures to give you an idea of the change.

I love the changes and the punches of aqua you have added, especially with the poppy colored throw pillows. I would have never thought of that combo, but I love it.

Curtains warm up and finish off a room, but I want to warn you that it can be costly to do it right. Four windows means four sets of curtains, four sets of hardware.

You're pictures are way too small. Can you repost them so they're bigger?

The carpet is actually a pretty warm gray and I love the color of the walls. I would definitely go with a Scandinavian style two-tone bedroom. No colors needed and it’s so calming. Do black in white pictures with oversized white mattes, a simple bedframe and linen sheets. Wood side table with a black metal lamp. Maybe a white fur throw rug.

Should you fancy any of these greyed greens from the Green-Yellow Hue Family, definitely sample in your space to see how they render. Any low Chroma ( near neutral ) colours from this neighbourhood, can shift blue in certain imbalanced light. Best to double check how they might work in your room.

I would definitely do one big rug, because the two smaller rugs would break up the room and look pieced together. I'm still pondering on the color, however I think a dark brown would look better than a dark gray. You could also go with a rug that is thicker if you wanted, since the bed is on the more elaborate side. Does the mirror have a little bit more of a red tone or is it just the picture? You could tap into the reds for your rug too if that is the case.

Are you able to click on each picture to make them bigger? It works for me, but it might be because I posted them. I am not sure how to make them bigger, but I will do a search for that.

Ok, I'm a dork, usually I click on them and they'll still be small, the one time I don't and they're larger! Sorry bout that! Thanks terriks for posting them, my old eyes just aren't what they used to be!

Love the color and how you've been able to incorporate it into the room so far. It's addicting, isn't it? LOL So here's my .2 cents...in stead of white curtains, which I agree can be costly, have you considered using valances in the aqua instead? I think they'd look very nice with your blinds.

I realize with the drape, you're trying to soften the night stands but I don't think they look bad at all. I know a lot of people like to use a drape cloth to hide whatever it is they don't like, but I'm not a fan especially with bulkier pieces. That said, there are other ways to soften them without covering them completely. For example, when I was looking for something to put under our lamps, (which also sit on a set of very big night stands,) I found some really cool place mats made out of a natural material for .99 cents at IKEA. You can't tell that's what they are for or cost and they worked perfectly. So maybe you can get creative and find something like that to help to soften the stands up a bit.

I also see the bedding has some red in it, but the red pillows are so much bolder than the blue that they draw the eye immediately to them. I think what I would do is use the pillows as my opportunity to introduce more white into the room with either solid white or a pretty white & blue stripe maybe. Do you sew? If so, it wouldn't be difficult to make some pillow covers for those red pillows and then you'd have a lot more flexability with fabric choices. Maybe even make the valances as well which is another very easy project. :c)

In the bedding the red they've used looks great, but compared to the blue, it's a bold color. I'd probably leave it in the back ground and not use it as a primiary color in the room because it competes too much with that pretty blue.

I realize you didn't say anything about this, so I hope not to offend, but maybe you can move or even replace the dresser at the end of the bed with a smaller sized bench. The dresser is out of scale and looks out of place in that spot.

Thanks for the ideas. The color in the comforter is actually a deep rust color, and now that you mention it the rust pillows do kind of compete. I like the idea of white pillows. I am now on a mission. I can easily move the cedar chest from the foot of the bed and replace with a bench. I think I have a bench in the shed I could paint up. I think I will look for some fabric for valances. I want to stay on the cheap side, there are actually 6 windows in this bedroom.

Kim, So glad it helped and it's great that you already have a bench you can use, sure wish I did, I'm still on the hunt for "the one" :c) BTW, I don't think of it as staying on the "cheap" side, you're using your creativity and putting some of yourself into it, in the end, it's going to be a room I'm sure you'll enjoy and appreciate so much more because of it. I'm looking forward to seeing the results, good luck!

I don't know if I really like the white cloth on the nightstand. Why can't you paint them? Are they family heirlooms?

I think a chair in a fun style would be great...you could even scour the flea markets for an old one and give it one of these looks, only use aqua paint on the wood, or aqua cushions:
