I would say that the rug is what is throwing it off. In the picture, the rug looks like a cool gray, rather than working with the warm tones in the floor and furniture. Maybe find a warmer toned rug with some dark accents to bring out the dark wood on the bed? Hope that helps!

Hello! Thanks for your thoughts. I think you’re right about that. The rug is definitely a cooler/silvery gray that doesn’t sync well with the warmer tones in the furniture and wall color.

Would you recommend a dark brown rug? Or a dark gray? Having trouble visualizing what would look good here. Also, what do you think about two smaller “runner” rugs next to each side of the bed, instead of a larger rug underneath?

I would definitely do one big rug, because the two smaller rugs would break up the room and look pieced together. I'm still pondering on the color, however I think a dark brown would look better than a dark gray. You could also go with a rug that is thicker if you wanted, since the bed is on the more elaborate side. Does the mirror have a little bit more of a red tone or is it just the picture? You could tap into the reds for your rug too if that is the case.
