can we talk about floor outlets?
Comments (26)The front table lamps look like they are "lit" by an off-camera studio light, although perhaps only partially. Notice the shadows on the floor and the lack of hot spot. Whereas the floor lamp and wall sconce in the background appear to be wired in. This being a movie set, it's quite possible that the cords are running through holes drilled in the furniture and down to a raised stage floor where there's a mass of wiring underneath. Channeling cable through furniture and wiring stuff to a main lighting board is a heck of a lot cheaper than losing an actress for months, throwing off your shooting schedule and putting investors and an entire crew on hold while a broken leg heals well enough to finish filming. An overzealous art director with Photoshop *should* have fixed all the shadows on the floor when there's no bright light source in the room coming from right about where that loft is. So I'm guessing it's not retouched, at least not heavily....See MoreCan we talk about....... Rice?
Comments (36)Annie, here's the recipe for the rice with beets. It's a good side dish for venison. BEET MIXTURE FOR PERSIAN PILAF 1 Tbs. olive oil 1 Tbs. minced garlic 1 1/2 cups finely minced cooked beets (about 3 small ones) 1/2 tsp. salt 2 Tbs. minced fresh dill (or 2 tsp. dried) 2 Tbs. raspberry vinegar 1 Tbs. honey Freshly ground black pepper 3 cups cooked basmati rice Heat olive oil in a small skillet. Add the garlic and cook over low heat for about 10 seconds. (DonÂt let it turn color, or it will become bitter.) Add the beets and salt, and saute for about 5 minutes longer. Remove from heat and stir in the dill, vinegar, honey, and a little black pepper to taste. Stir beet mixture into the rice....See MoreCan we talk about bedroom pillows?
Comments (17)I took some pictures to show what I mean about it looking lopsided with DH and my sleeping pillows below. This is what it looks like with three smaller sized sleeping pillows below: Pls. ignore the comforter at the bottom. I bought a new duvet and the euro shams from Pottery Barn a few months ago that I'm planning to switch over to for a spring/summer look and am figuring out how to incorporate the euroshams into the picture. Another option I suppose would be to try to exchange the euroshams for standard shams and put the sleeping pillows behind those and don't use the matelasse shams. That way I don't have to deal with so many bed pillows. Either way though, it does seem to give a more balanced look to stick with 3 smaller sized sleeping pillows. Also, for those with queen beds, do you use standard or queen sized pillows? The queen sized ones don't seem to fit as well in the shams as the standard sized ones do. DO they make shams for queen size pillows or only standard and king size? I need to decide soon if I'm going to return any of these pillows....See MoreCan We Talk About Microwaves?
Comments (18)I am on the same page as you. This house is my forever house and I will live here for the next 50 years or so, god willing. I didn't want to devote space to built ins. I know I will replace or get rid of appliances in the future so the only thing built in is my double wall ovens. Instead of going with a cook top, I went with a standard 30 inch free standing range. I did not enclose my refrigerator, in fact I purposefully had no cabinets built above it so if I want a taller fridge, I won't be limited, and my microwave sits on the counter. I bought it 7 years ago for 100 dollars at Walmart. It is starting to go out and needs to be replaced soon and I won't have to agonize over finding the right size to fit the space. Right now with 4 small children, I need a large microwave. When they have all moved out, I will probably buy a smaller one. My kitchen won't be appearing in any magazines for being the latest and greatest with specialized built ins but it is functional and will be for a long time....See Morepowermuffin
