Too Busy? Can't Even Get a Quote!

We have decided to begin the process. Initially, called 4 builders to set design/quote appointments. Two never responded. Called a few more. Two that came out and the meetings went well... but we never heard from them again! No quote, no reply to OUR follow-ups. And those 2 were ones that we had high hopes for- really wanted to use one of them.

After meeting with 5 builders, we have 3 quotes- one of which is a joke, and the other two are $12k apart!

We live in Katy, suburb of Houston. We only called on reputable builders. Our budget is $55-60k. I just can't understand it.

Anyone else experience this before?

Yes, we experienced the same lack of response (rude). That was one of the reasons we selected the scoundrel we selected. He was so attentive, calling several times a day before and after quote, that we saw it as a good sign. It was a disaster!

Houston Pool Remodeling in Fulshear TX has an A+ rating as of this writing, despite previous and present litigation. Whatever you do, stay away from this company. We have even filed a formal complaint with the BBB, his chance to respond has expired, and yet, the perfect score remains.

As to lack of response, I've found there are many builders but a handful of truly good ones, so I suspect it is a builder's market and you will just have to keep looking, looking and leaving no stone unturned as far as references, financial stability, etc, etc

The PB's round here all seem to be exceptionally busy at the moment bi managed to speak to people but one of the companies told me flat out that they couldn't do it this year. I know my PB has said to me he's not taking appointments at the moment unless they're repeat business or direct referrals as he already has enough work and taking more on right now would take away the from the time he needs for his current builds.

Give it a month and it should be a lot better. You'd be unlikely to get to swim in it this year anyway.

Actually, composted manure is composted manure, from what I understand... regardless whether it's from animal or human waste. I do believe there are some countries where composted human waste is used to fertilize crops. The key word would be "composted". Once it breaks down in a compost pile, and becomes usable food for plants, I don't believe it's harmful in any way. I think we Americans have become conditioned to think certain things are gross... not to mention, politically correct or not... when in fact, this is simply how nature operates. Everything is part of a constantly recycling ecological circle. Things are born, they live, and they die... and in death, everything decomposes to be used by the next generation... I know it's all a little more complicated than that, but it's a simplified explanation. Society has grown a huge gag reflex, it seems... some people freak out when they see blood, or birth, or waste products, etc... but this is all just part of reality, of real life, and not the sanitary, politically correct bubbles some folks have constructed for themselves. Ok... I'll get off my soapbox now... I'm into reality, myself, and there's not much that grosses me about the realities of life. :-)

Wow, what a beautiful wonderland you have kitty747. I have been blessed with big beautiful minervas this year...and very early too! I just harvested my seeds for this year. Some of the seeds are huge! Does this mean larger blooms on the daughter plants? My wonderland looks like that picture, however I was blessed with five or six blooms on each stalk! Hopefully can post pictures next week. I'd be glad to share some with you Kristi, if that will help chase away the amy blues and make you feel better as well. I appreciate the effort that goes into her posts and I enjoy the photos. Unfortunately, many of her comments are too gossipy and dramatic for me. I read "Go Fug Yourself" so I am not adverse to a little dish but for some reason some of her posts rub me the wrong way.

Teens....oh I feel your pain! I am sorry. We are in this together. I raised a daughter and although she was a straight A student, super confident and well spoken to everyone else, I saw all the tears, endured all the eye rolls, had to listen to the....tone...you know what I am talking about when you ask a simple question and get a one word answer that has a tone full of disdain that you merely exist. I feel your pain. When my daughter got her own apartment I drove to New Orleans and had celebratory drink...I live SEVERAL states away from Louisiana! It’s rough. I never allowed disrespect or back talking...I addressed it EVERY time. They just know how to push your buttons. When we went to Japan last year, she was fussy for four days. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t have the trip tainted with memories of a giant argument...which would have happened. I decided for the sake of the trip, and my MIL was on the trip, to try ignoring her, she was 22. I did. I am not recommending this, just telling you what happened. It worked like a charm. She settled down and apologized. Now I always ignore it...but she doesn’t live with me and she now pays her own bills. She was dating someone in the past with MY personality. I believe in ACCOUNTABILITY. It was fire and gasoline. Now she is dating someone that diffuses the situation with his laidback personality. My personality wasn’t best for her, yes she respected me but it was a rocky ride...for me!

As a pool builder, I am so embarrassed when I read things like this about other pool builders and their lack of response to customers. We are not all that way, but I hear that complaint often too about other PBs.

Yes, I probably started with 14-16 companies, which quickly narrowed to 8-10 that engaged with me, and I think 4-6 that we actually got quotes from.

Yes, in OKC there is the same problem with getting quotes for my pool reno. I've been trying since April of this year and thus far have gotten one PB to come to the house and give a quote (that was last month). One other came but never sent a quote back. Two others said they would call me back and set an appt, and haven't, one said they couldn't do a quote until fall and to call them in a few months. There were about four others that never even returned my inquiry. So my score is 1 quote out of 9.
