linnea56 : I doubt that you will find lincrusta for much less than $225. That's what we paid for some that we ordered about 6 months ago for a job. I've had the opportunity to see and work with several of the frieze designs. They are just so pretty. I've had my eye on the Diana or Empire frieze to go on the vertical step up in my master bedroom's trey ceiling. I sure hope someone knows of a less expensive source.

Lowes had some anaglypta type borders in stock but a few months ago I noticed some on a table on sale so I dont know if they are still carrying them but you could check them out easily. Much less expensive then trying to find some lincrusta and easier to work with. If not head to any paint and wallpaper store Im sure youll find some. Isnt lincrusta the actual application of a plaster design? If you really want to go all out you could try that using a stencil and drywall plastering medium, that would be time consuming, but unique.

Have you looked at the actual Anaglypta and Lincrusta wallpaper book? Lowes has it in the special order section, and any wallpaper store should have it. Anaglypta patterns are usually about $30-50 per double roll for wallpaper, so borders would probably be less. It won't have the same relief as the Lincrusta, but it's much more deeply textured than the other paintable wallpapers available, and the patterns are more classic and traditional.

It's in the UK, but here's an anaglypta egg and dart for £5.99 (that's about $9) in 5 metre rolls (that's about 16 feet)

Thanks so much for helping! I found out that Google searching can only do so much. Half of what you have turned up did not appear on my search. ItÂs been 21 years since I bought wallpaper, I know longer know how or where to look. I used to see wallpaper stores, itÂs been so long since I saw one I figured the internet forced them all out of business.

Maybe it would help if I knew the difference between anaglypta and lincrusta. I was thinking that lincrusta is more dimensional but I donÂt know if thatÂs true. Plus I seem to be able to find whole-wall papers, or dados, but not BORDERS.

Wallpapersplus is the only site that turned up on google. In anaglypta borders they only have 3 skinny kinds of strips that look like chair rails. They have the friezes I mentioned in my original post, that are too wide and also $225. The friezes are beautiful, but more suited for the topmost part of a wall, and are way too wide for where I want it (above a chair rail) plus for the scale of the room, which is only 12 by 13 feet.

The designyour wall .com site carries the exact same wide friezes at the same prices.

suero, that Super Fresco Egg and Dart is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Though it doesnÂt say how wide it is. But the style is right, and the scale looks like it might be right. But again, itÂs in England! Now if only I could find that in the US.

THE actual Anaglypta and Lincrusta wallpaper book?? Umm, I didnÂt know there was one!

BM and SW are Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams? Are paint stores where you go now for wallpaper? (Sorry if thatÂs laughableÂbut I SAID itÂs been a long time!) Do you have to hunt through all the books yourself or is there someone to help you find something so specific? I checked LoweÂs website and there was nothing (went through over 1000 listings) , but maybe they have more in the store.

I guess we are sort of backwoodsish in the south, but that is where we go to get wallpaper at a paint/wallpaper store. Go wherever you buy wallpaper and look for it. It should be easy to find. It's usually in the sale bins and clearance counters here but like I said, this is redneck area.

I've been buying all my paint at places like Home Depot or teh hardware store, so I didnÂt realize paint stores also carried wallpaper. ItÂs just my ignorance, I hope I didnÂt offend. The last time I bought wall paper it was at some kind of decorating store, and I think all they had was wallpaper and drapery samples. It was a little local store but there were thousands of books. And someone to guide you through it all. I havenÂt seen a store like that in a long time, so I didnÂt know how people did it now.

Here's a place in the US that carries the egg and dart anaglypta. I estimate that the border is 5" wide, but the site says to call for the width.

Anaglypta and Lincrusta are brand names, like Kleenex is to tissues. There is only one "real" Anaglypta. Lincrusta is a very stiff, hard to hang product made from linseed oil, like real linoleum used to be. It has a much deeper relief than wallpaper and a beautiful look, but it is hard to work with and expensive. There are many brands of paintable wallpaper and border, so the name anaglypta is sometimes used interchangeably, but the real brand has a specific wallpaper book. You should be able to find it at any SW, BM, or Lowes and order the wallpaper, usually at a discount over the list price. Real Anaglypta is not prepasted and is a thicker cotton pulp; many modern versions are thinner and a sort of spongy material. Some Anaglypta patterns are even still made on original rollers from the turn of the century; both it and Lincrusta are very old products originally made in England and used extensively in the UK.

Anaglypta is a heavy embossed paper used as a wallcovering. Similar in appearance to lincrusta, anaglypta is made primarily from cotton and paper pulp. ...

Wow! You guys are great! So I should be looking for paintable borders. Makes sense, "anaglypta" sounds too esoteric. equest17 and patricia, thanks for demystifying the terms for me. I am more likely to find the right thing if I am well informed.

And oceanna, WOW again! EbayÂI would not have imagined. I think I need a sample to decide if the scale is right. And they offer them.
