I have recently had this system installed and have set up the pump to do 1 turnover a day. This is doing 1 cycle for 15 hours. My question is that reading the intelliflo user guide, if I have other features that get activated during this cycle that would increase the flow, the pump would shut off earlier than 15 hours due to the 1 turnover being achieved earlier. Here is an example from the user guide: The IntelliFlo was suppose to run in Filter mode from 1:00 to 11:00 to turnover 10 GPM for 10 hours (10 GPM 10 Hours= 6 kGal). But because Feature 3 has been running 20 GPM for 4 hours (20 GPM 4 Hours= 4,8 kGal), the IntelliFlo must stop at 8:00 because; 10 GPM* 3 Hours + 20 GPM 4 Hours= 6,6 kGal.

I set up all of the pool parameters on the Intellitouch along with creating flow rates for solar panels (45gpm) and cleaner(50gpm). These both require much more flow than the 25 gallons that the intelliflo has calculated to do 1 turnover in 15 hours. Now I would think that since these additional features are outputting more than the 25gpm that the intelliflo has calculated to do 1 turnover that the pump should shut off earlier than the 15 hour cycle. This is not the case as it runs the full 15 hours so it is actually doing more than 1 turnover.

Does this feature not work with the intellitouch?

Did you program this thing yourself? Do you really only have 6k in water? Are you certain your programs are taking with a push of the ENTER button?

If you program a feature, it will account for the higher flow and indeed, shut off the pump earlier than the programmed operating window. (15 hrs. in your case) Upon that happening, the pump should read POWER SAVE.

If you are seeing a pump with a 15 hr window run the full 15 with a programmed FEATURE, I'm guessing your FEATURE is not ENABLED. Proper programming involves not only programming the FEATURE, but ENABLING it. Also, if using FEATURE 3, you will need to modify the times of FEATURES 4-9 so they do not overlap with FEATURE 3. Otherwise, FEATURE 3 may not be working as you believe you have it programmed if it is less gpm than 4-9 which are defaulted much higher. IntelliFlo chooses the highest flow programmed. Even if they are DISABLED, you cannot set a time for a lesser FEATURE without changing the upper ones first. Pentair is supposed to be working on this major installation hassle.

Go through from 9 on down to 3 and set each one
for 5 minutes beginning at about midnight and work down in time. DISABLE 4-9 and make sure 3 is ENABLED.

What is the purpose of your FEATURE 3 for 4 hours at 20 gpm? You state the sweep is running at 50gpm but not for how long. How long is the 45gpm solar? SWG only needs about 12-15gpm. By the way, most sweeps run fine at 25-33gpm and with a 6k pool, you only need an hour or so.

Something does not make sense with your numbers.

I guess I wasn't clear in my example. The example I gave was from the intelliflo users guide. My pool is probably around 24000 gallons. I did all of the programming through the intellitouch panel and none on the actual intelliflo pump itself. Am I suppose to do it on both? Does the circuits on the intellitouch actually overide anything that is programmed in the pump or does features programmed in the pump overide the intellitouch? I don't see anything on the intellitouch panel showing features 3-9.

You might change the program in the Intellitouch to see if the pumps runs per the I9 or the Intelliflo program. I think the Intellitouch programming will override the Intelliflo programming so I bet this is the issue. I forgot and left my I9 breaker off one time and my pump still ran as programmed on the pump but not as programmed per the I9. Can you see the Intelliflo menu on the I9 system? That is also a way to verify the comm. Link between the Intellitouch and the Intelliflo.? The Intelliflo (full) should be wired directly to the Intellitouch panel via the comm cable, not via a relay so it sounds like you got re wired correctly. The Other 4x160's will need to be wired into the relays so you are correct about that also. More relays if you want more flow settings top be controlled from the Intellitouch panel If it was me I would get the Pentair rep out to review your installation and programming. I would also call the electrical company to have them out at the same time to fix the items done incorrectly. You just purchased roughly $ 7,500.00 -10K worth of Pentair equipment so I bet they will be happy to come out and give you a hand. Also many of the builders are not familiar with how to program the Intelliflo pumps so the Pentair Reps said they end up doing most of the initial start ups.

I'm not so much concerned with rpm #'s. I only use them to determine where I am in set up mode when I do the manual trial. When I look to set the max gpm (for a spa jet trial), I ramp it to an estimated gpm based on the most efficient velocity for a given pipe size. It is then that i look at the rpm to see where we are. If it's at 3450, I'll ramp down until I see a change in that rpm number. At that point, we know anything above that gpm setting is just waste. Still, max rpm is not always the effieicent speed. You now look to the filter psi. Where is it and how is it responding to the pump flow change? If I'm at 20+psi and I can ramp down the flow without changing the jet action, I'll keep going down as far as I can. I don't bottom out as I know my filter getting dirty will cut flow. It just establishes my range and I find a good spot in that range. Your previous numbers did not make sense. what you are reporting now is more realistic. Again, you're really looking a wattage. What is the consumption and is it where you want to be? Under 300 is awesome as long as you are seeing results in the pool and who cares what the rpm or gpm is. Those are all subjective to the installation. 15gpm is a real slow turn and most are not programmed for that. But, if you're getting good skimming go for it. I try not to program under 20. As far as the impeller goes, we use a service set of tweezers. They're long and with the proper, educated feel of what it is supposed to be, you'll know if it's blocked. As times, it will feel clean but palm pods, toy gun pellets, etc can jam the inside of the impeller and you'll never know unless you pull the motor. Where are you located?

Currently there is no equalizer line plumed between the pool and spa, the water level in the Spa is about 3 inches higher than in the pool when both are filled properly. Is the maintenance on the chemical dispensers really more than having to check the Chlorine and PH levels of the pool and spa are daily and adding the right amount of liquid chlorine? That's what I do now. The reasons I'm wanting to redo the pluming on the equipment pad are: there is no room for solar valves between the filter and heater or a salt cell; the pump sits less than 2 inches away from the 3-way pool/spa inlet valve; all the corners used are the short radius 90 degree kind; and pipes go from 2'' to 1 1/2'' back to 2'' on the pad. I figured that for 200 bucks on piping parts at the local hardware store I can redo the pluming, have a 10 inch straight pipe in front of the pump intake, use large radius corners where possible and have room for the solar valves and salt cell. Hopefully saving me on operating costs for the pump long term. Of course those savings are based on having a VF 3050 pump or using a flow meter to setup to VS 3050's rpms for the correct flow for my piping. As for the EasyTouch, I hadn't really considered it since I was looking at the IntelliTouch. If for some reason I decided to stick with the VF 3050 after all would you be able to setup different flow rates for different functions on the EasyTouch? I'm thinking I need these: 1) pool recirculation 22 gpm (gets me 1 turnover in 14 hours) 2) pool skimmer ? gpm (I'll have to experiment with this to see what works) 3) pool sweep ? gpm (I'll have to experiment with this to see what works) 4) pool skimmer + sweep ? gpm (I'll have to experiment with this to see what works) 5) spa recirculation 10 gpm (gets me 1 turnover in 40 minutes) 6) spa jets 80 gpm (ideally this speed would be adjustable or there would be more than 1 preset speed) 7) solar pool or spa ? gpm (whatever is required by the solar panels I end up using - suggestions welcome) Currently without solar my pool temo is usually already in the 90's cause of a bubble solar blanket I keep on the pool, so in practice I think the solar will only be in use in the spring and fall or on days when the solar blanket is off the pool for a long time.

Virginia Graham law does not require SVRS on a pool with dual drains provided they ae 3' feet apart on center. A sinlge port suction or suction ports closer than 3' require SVRS. SVRS is a second teir of enforcement. It is not the primary. Primary is the main drain cover. ALL covers must be replaced commercially by 12/20 if the pool is open for use. This is the largest endeavor I've ever seen. Virtually every cover under water today is non-compliant. The covers look the same but they are not. They have to hav ethe current code on them and the installation requires a specific gap in the pipe to cover bottom measurement based on pipe size. The new 4x160 is about $150 more than the standard at distribution. The huge liablity lies here in VGB law. BY law, a it is illegal to enter into commerce a non-compliant cover. By law, residential pools are exempt for now. A company buys a cover that is compliant on 12/21 and pops in onto a residential spa. That installation is now out of compliance for VGB law as it may not have the proper gap under the cover. The pool guy is ignorant of the fact and the owner is told this cover is compliant. Everyone pays at time of accident and the accident is far more likely to occur in a backyard than it is a public pool. This is the insanity of the law and lawmakers. They are ignorant of what really happens. Commercial builders are far less likely to take short cuts than a residential guy. They should have started in the yard with this law.

Just a little bit more info:
Filter time set to run 0600-2100 which computes to 25gpm
Solar set to run at 45gpm with a set temperature of 84
cleaner set to run from 1100-1400 at 50gpm

All of this was and all of the other pool data was set up on the intellitouch with nothing set up on the intelliflo. Everything works fine but was just wondering about a new optimized filter cycle being computed based on the the solar and cleaner being run. Does not seem like the intellitouch computes a new optimized filter cycle.

I've got similar issues with the same setup. There appears to be a number of quirks with this equipment. My PB and Pentair have stumbled through some solutions only to have new ones crop up. I'm having a difficult time finding a worthy manual or troubleshooting matrix. Let me know if you find one! I'm curious as to what type of cleaner you're running and how is it plumbed.

My cleaner is just a suction cleaner that I need to increase the flow for it to work adequately. The way that I am trying to achieve 1 turn over per day is to decrease the size of the pool from 24000 to 21000 in the filtering parameter for the intelliflo pump. This reduces the gpm of the pump when none of the other features are on. Other than that, it seems like it is working fine.

You say it's working fine. So, did you figure out how to have the feature water volume calculated into the total filtration volume? Only one of my features seems to total. Also, does your screen display show actual or setpoint gpm? The only numbers that vary on my screen is rpm and watts. Switching modes results in an instantaneous display of setpoint gpm. I've yet to see the gpm number modulate.

No, I meant to say besides having the feature water volume calculated that the system is working fine. My system just shows the setpoint gpm too and the only thing that varies is the rpm and watts.
