High Rise Dogs/Prisons/Hookers a Covid ramble
Comments (4)I read an article yesterday, can't remember which news group it was from, about inmates (Bernie Madoff was one) petitioning to be released from prison and placed on house arrest because they're worried about getting the virus. People's comments were not ... sympathetic ... to the concern....See MoreWhat trees are best for high rise that’s windy and sunny?

Comments (3)Well, I am hoping to do veges like tomatoes and cucumber - kind of an oasis with some cutting flowers and herbs too! I do mason bees at ground level so I became curious as to whether they would hang around up there too. I will certainly try it but wanted to learn about other's experience/knowledge...btw, this is in the pacific northwest of the US....See MoreRenovating new high rise condo
Comments (3)Live_wire_oak beat me to it. Noise control will have to be incorporated into your decision. Wood is rather easy to work with. A decent, high-end underlayment can be used underneath a floating/glue down wood. Tile, on the other hand, gets SUPER expensive to get noise-cancelling underlayment down. I've seen 6mm (1/4") as well as 12mm (1/2") cork underlay used underneath tile. It is FANTASTICALLY expensive! And it raises the floor height by another 1/4" - 1/2". In condo's, where your entrance door is a fire door, this can be death to a project. If you like the look of wood, then I highly recommend you work with wood. Tile in a kitchen is STILL accepted. I know everyone is trying desperately to use 1 floor throughout, but it doesn't always work that way (as you have discovered). Kitchen appliances make up the vast majority of flood claims. That means fridges with water lines (hate them!!!!) and dishwashers (can't live without them!) are the two biggest culprits. So long as you have BOTH appliances in a kitchen, you will probably need to work with tile. Of course you could go ahead and install a moisture detectors under a wood floor. These work with shut-off valves to stop damage from occurring should another leak occur. If you use moisture detectors, your insurance goes down....See Moresylviatexas1
