Houzz Tour: Exclusive Houston High-Rise
A coveted address, a stellar view and sleek style make this modern bachelor pad ready to entertain
Interior designer Mauricio Nava says that "2727 Kirby is one of the hottest and most exclusive new buildings" in Houston, so he was excited to work on a project there. Even better, his client, an entrepreneur in the coffee brewing and vending industry, gave Nava free range over the design of the unit and a relatively unlimited budget to work with. "The unit was a total blank canvas, and I was given the freedom to do as I wished," Nava says. "I had such fun with it!"

The bar section was a complete dead space in the unit. "Since my client likes to entertain, I decided to turn it into a bar. The cabinets are custom made, and the Plexiglas columns and countertops tie in with other elements in the living room and hallway," says Nava.
Nava custom made the Plexiglas TV backboard, using "LED tape light that can also be dimmed." The backboard is mounted against a textured Sherwin Williams wallpaper resembling bamboo, rooting the otherwise streamlined space to coarser, natural elements.
"My client doesn't cook at all, but he does want a gathering space for visiting family and friends. He can certainly still make the occasional breakfast in this kitchen," says Nava. The high-performance hood, sleek appliances and stainless steel backsplash up the gloss factor of the contemporary kitchen.

One of the elements that put Nava's stamp in this bedroom setup is the mounting of the TV. "I cut into the wall and placed the television into it. I put LED lights behind the television to create a nice mood in the evenings," Nava says. All the light fixtures in the unit can be dimmed, including the TV backlights.

Nava's client usually eats at one of the many restaurants in River Oaks, so the sculptural piece on the glass table isn't distracting anyone in the dining room. The space is really an extension of the "cool, trendy, clublike atmosphere" that Nava's client enjoys when out and about.
The Plexiglas hall design has gotten positive reviews from the unit owner's friends. The branches were added to add more height and to juxtapose the sleek, lighted surface with elements from nature. "I used the same Sherwin Williams textured wallpaper along this hall, tying it in with elements in the living room," says Nava.
